To realise I like old lady things

AiryFairyMum · 20/06/2020 15:13

I bought some Yardley perfume for my grandmother and haven't been able to give it to her due to lockdown. I really like it and am going to buy some for me.
Also, I've started looking at those pointy cross-your hearty bras and thinking they look comfy and I quite like the shape, without having to cope with underwires (which I hate).
I'm 37, not 73. Are there any other old lady things I might like please?

I'm very tempted by Ringtons. He drives past me already.

I slip my bar soap into a soap bag once it gets worn down a bit

woodhill · 22/06/2020 17:15

Button tIn

mogloveseggs · 22/06/2020 17:26

Definitely go for the ringtons it's so worth it!
I was so pleased when mine returned a couple of weeks ago. Told him I'd had to buy tetleys and got told of for swearing Grin
If he turns up when dh is in he knows he's got a good sale-usually 3 packets of biscuits, a pack of sweets and 2 hot chocolates on top of the usual order!

Jeeperscreepers69 · 22/06/2020 17:47

Big pot of nivea. Bluebell purfume from the lakes. 😁 talc.

altiara · 22/06/2020 17:50

Are Skechers go walk old lady shoes? As I had to introduce my DM to them! But then again my DD won’t go near them, but she’s only 14. There’s plenty of time for her to change her mind!

SerendipitySunshine · 22/06/2020 17:52

I love old "brown furniture" made with real wood. No flat pack furniture in our house.

ChaToilLeam · 22/06/2020 17:56

I love violet and rose cream choccies, and floral perfumes. Also scones, and lovely bed linen, and geraniums, and a properly set table.

I like whisky and am good at sewing and am quite sure I have turned into my granny.

Bioprepper · 22/06/2020 17:59

I have just read this whole thread saying yup, i have one of those, ooo i like that, oh i wear those. I think im more old lady that i first thought lol

kakak · 22/06/2020 17:59

Yes it's happening to you as it's happened to me Grin
Got rid of the underwired bras, too uncomfortable 😂

Educationwhateducation · 22/06/2020 18:04

Humbugs or Murray Mints.
Big metal framed handbags
Lavender talc
A half apron
Your ‘dinner’ at lunchtime (always meat and two veg)

MyWitzEnd · 22/06/2020 18:06

Comfy shoes, big knickers, and saying what the F you like!

alwaysreadyforablether · 22/06/2020 18:12

I'm loving this thread - so comforting although I never knew either of my grannies. One question - how do non-wired bras cope with large boobs? I'd love to ditch the wires but worried I'd be sweeping the floor wherever I went!

lockdownalli · 22/06/2020 18:15

@alwaysreadyforablether Not with a Doreen bra they won't. They will be hoiked up under your chin!

Mylifesadrama · 22/06/2020 18:17

It would appear from some of these answers, that I have turned into an old lady, and didn’t even realise! (I’m 50 trying not to look old) 🤔😬🤣

I currently live in my Birkenstock’s, I have fitflops, and Skechers too. I love my elasticated trousers right now. (So comfy) I like a good smothering of talc after my shower, and I long for a pair of big pants! 🤣. In my defence, I have bad feet, and have also gained 3 stone so nothing fits! 😬🤣

Imissmoominmama · 22/06/2020 18:19

Oh yes, I cook in an apron now too. Doreen bras are sold out in my size- it’s you lot, isn’t it? 👀

Abraid2 · 22/06/2020 18:28

Is it time for a sherry?

AiryFairyMum · 22/06/2020 18:35

Ooh yes, a glass of sherry please!

Guacamole · 22/06/2020 18:38

I like big pants, handkerchiefs, crossstitch, inspector morse and liquorice comfits.

SpeedofaSloth · 22/06/2020 18:46

Ooh, Inspector Morse is fab, books and telly.

Oblahdeeoblahdoe · 22/06/2020 18:53

@Elvesdontdomagic there are plenty of young sophisticated women in France who you use shopping trollies. They're usually in very bright colours and patterns. I think they think they look better than lugging big bags of shopping around

AdaColeman · 22/06/2020 18:54

Yes, I’m having an amontillado and some little cheese shortbread biscuits here!

I’ve checked, and sadly Ringtons don’t deliver to my area, I would love someone to deliver tea & cake to the door.

kojolo · 22/06/2020 18:57

I've let myself down and bought Punk IPA from the shop instead of Dubonnet as I had planned in honour of this thread.

In my defence they didn't have any. I've made do with a quarter of chocolate limes.
