Next door's -thug- cat

Has started coming in our house and stealing cat food.
Our cats dislike him. (understatement...)
Once he's in it's a problem removing him because he growls, hisses and then attacks us (launches at our legs etc).
He spends an inordinate amount of time in our garden or staring in through the French windows. Any suggestion how to gently discourage him? I have no intention of having outside doors shut for the whole summer.
Enclosed a picture of him sitting on our outside table.

wheresmymojo
I like the look of your thug. Could we do a swap?

I don't have any suggestions that haven't already been mentioned... Just came to post that "TC" is absolutely gorgeous, so handsome! Your cats are gorgeous too, of course. Smile

Has "TC" been neutered? (Good luck, erm, checking...).

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 07/05/2019 13:30

Poppins
Yes TC has indeed been neutered.

We had a small scuffle this morning between Basil and TC - but they now all outside playing cat chess.

Buckets of water, water pistols, shouting and hissing. Every single time you see him.

Pebble21uk · 07/05/2019 13:52

We had a neighbour's half Bengal keep doing this too... came in through open doors and even windows last summer... found her on the kitchen counter drinking water out of a roasting pan which had been left there to soak!

Anyway - we found a brilliant solution... we got our own half Bengal!!! He's only 7 months but already chases her out of the garden and we can leave all the doors and windows open we like now! I saw her crouching in the garden this morning when out with our boy - she took one look at him and scarpered! Job done (and yes, they are both neutered!)

Think you need to get yourself a Bengal Grin

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 07/05/2019 15:39

Loving the cat chess. Basil is guarding your back door. Good boy.

We've got a part Bengal (don't know how much, but definitely some). He's utterly bonkers. Clearly thinks he's a dog. Desperately in love with DH. Need a lot of exercise Grin

YetAnotherSpartacus · 08/05/2019 09:50

Oh yes - back door being definitely guarded. :)

Mia184 · 08/05/2019 10:51

Oh, I love this thread! OP please keep on posting (including pics!)

I think that you will all get used to each other. Smile

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/05/2019 10:58

Happy to continue to provide updates - however it's peeing down with rain today, so I'd imagine he'll stay in his own house keeping the dogs in order.

Those dogs must hate rain...

Minkies11 · 08/05/2019 21:18

Is he trying to make friends with your cats? He looks quite chilled. Our bengals are big confident boys who try and befriend every dog/cat they meet - needless to say most cats scream and chase them away which they seem utterly bemused about!

MrsJDornan · 08/05/2019 21:34

Cat chess Grin

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/05/2019 22:30

Is he trying to make friends with your cats?
This is quite possible - and is DW's theory as well.
Earlier today Sybil chased him off the patio, she then ran back in and he was back in about 10 seconds.

The odd thing is that we've lived next door to him for years - and while he's quite often looked through the window it's only on the last month or so that he's become quite so desperate to break in.

Talk about making yourself at home. Having a yawn then a wash outside the door while being observed this afternoon. (This was a few minutes after Sybil chased him off).

His home dynamic might have changed and he's looking for companionship. He does seem ultra cool and maybe hopes hanging out near your cats will win him brownie points! Some cats are really social with others.

Singlewhiteguineapig · 08/05/2019 23:56

Best thread ever!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 09/05/2019 11:56

Oh Gosh - the Yawn :)

MsMightyTitanAndHerTroubadours · 09/05/2019 13:17

I think he has taken against his dogs and wishes to move in with you!

Oddly we have had a visitor, a lovely round faced black cat...not as floofy as Basil

We have been "recycling" the litter trays, so before being emptied and cleaned they do a day or two by the garden gate and since doing this little blackface hasn't been seen

However idiotcat's sister has decided that she enjoys an alfresco option and has taking to doing an extra big poo in the grubby tray while it is outside, we know it's her dh saw her at it!

...we do hoik out any big jobs before putting them out there, but she seems to think no outdoor tray is complete without one, which is hugely ironic as she will NOT use a tray indoors if she even thinks her brother has stepped in it, never mind a stale wee being in there.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 09/05/2019 14:16

I can currently hear TC miaowing his head off and scratching outside the front door.
I've never felt quite so wanted Hmm

Cheerybigbottom · 09/05/2019 14:34

I've really enjoyed TC's antics on this thread! It reminds me of the time we had our french windows open and I was reading something on the coffee table and noticed one of our cats walking past me to go upstairs. Then same cat did it again?

A doppelgänger had gone upstairs and laid on our bed very cosily. Swiftly evicted and never returned. TC is more persistent 😄

Bookworm4 · 09/05/2019 15:49

Let him in, you are the chosen one.

Mia184 · 09/05/2019 18:05

^^This

GarthFunkel · 09/05/2019 19:09

I have an ad for Feliway now! "Are your cats fighting in the house?" Grin

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/05/2019 13:17

He's back - just sitting staring in.

He then yawned at me.

Are you sure that is a yawn?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 10/05/2019 13:23

I suppose he may have been roaring Grin
