Next door's -thug- cat

Has started coming in our house and stealing cat food.
Our cats dislike him. (understatement...)
Once he's in it's a problem removing him because he growls, hisses and then attacks us (launches at our legs etc).
He spends an inordinate amount of time in our garden or staring in through the French windows. Any suggestion how to gently discourage him? I have no intention of having outside doors shut for the whole summer.
Enclosed a picture of him sitting on our outside table.

YesQueen
Impressed with your 'not my cat' who clearly thinks you're wrong.
TC hasn't made his way upstairs yet...

This is also not my cat

YesQueen · 11/05/2019 14:41

Ground floor sadly... I open the window and a hoard of cats clamber in while my cat just sits there going "just don't ask mama. Ok?"

bengalcat · 11/05/2019 14:43

Loving these ‘ not my cats ‘ - had a Burmese once who would sometimes come in reeking of cigs - chap up the road said to me one day ‘ is that your cat , he loves his steak doesn’t he ‘ - lol steak cheeky feline

Awesome thread!

For a few weeks a number of years ago one of our cats cloned herself. We couldn't work out why a small cat who genealogical didn't like children suddenly was begging to be picked up by all comers until suddenly there were two.

As for your persistent neighbour - my half bengal essentially moved out of our home the day I first brought a baby into the house. Our next door neighbors found themselves with a cat who was pretty sure that that was the family he wanted to be a part of. He never gave up at all.

Send him back with a note asking for rent money 😂

Update for TC's fans???

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/05/2019 12:22

I can confirm that we haven't been murdered in our sleep by TC yet.
He did attack me yesterday by the front door then just sat down, as if hissing and attacking my leg was of no consequence.
Lovely weather again today so Sybil and Basil are now (very sensibly) creating a feline shield by the open French windows.

Love them

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2019 12:41

Sybil the feline doorstop.

Is it just me or do TC's ears have a Scottish Wildcat look to them?

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/05/2019 13:40

do TC's ears have a Scottish Wildcat look to them?

I think he was grumpy in that picture because I'd just gently edged him away from the front door with my foot (hence the attack)

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2019 13:43

Oh well, you were asking for it then.

Does he normally accept scritches and pets?

GarthFunkel · 13/05/2019 13:47

gently edged him away If you nudged him with your foot then no wonder he went for you! Oh the utter rejection in that photo. Why doesn't she like me?

YetAnotherSpartacus · 13/05/2019 13:53

I just want to pick him up and smooch him. He always looks so dejected and anyway I don't value my life

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/05/2019 13:53

He is one of those cats who will accept a stroke but will sometimes then suddenly turn on you. He's not a cat I trust Grin

Before I get accused of hoofing TC btw - to confirm when I said gently edged him away this was literally me just holding up my foot to stop him getting in the house.

May I ask why you attempted to stop the mighty TC from entering his house? You seem mistaken in your place in this, stand aside good woman.😸😸

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/05/2019 14:10

Spartacus You have picked your name well. Grin

TC is not a cat I would dare pick up (although ndn does and survives)

3 of mine in in blissful ignorance of TC continuing to case the joint.

OPEN the DOOR woman, let him in!!!

Lemonsquinky · 13/05/2019 17:07

Is Basil a Maine Coon? We had a cat who looked just like him and was the sweetest most even tempered poppet.
We also had a cat that was the same as TC. He ate other cats' food in their houses, woke other people up, in their houses, chased their cats... we didn't know what to do about it because he would go stir crazy being left inside. We only found out about some of it when he was dying of cancer because we took him out for supervised walks and our neighbours told us.
Does TC have a home? It might be crap and he wants to live with you!

Lemonsquinky · 13/05/2019 17:07

He might be volatile because he hasn't been done.

Lemonsquinky · 13/05/2019 17:17

My cat also tries to live next door.🙄

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 13/05/2019 18:33

No not Maine Coon. Basil is a Battersea moggy who is roughly twice the size of his sibling Sybil.
On a previous thread a quite brilliant poster suggested that he was wearing the fur of his enemies (pic enclosed) - I now suspect he is actually a reincarnation of a Mongol warrior.

And yes TC has been 'done' - he lives next door with three dogs, chickens and various reptiles. I suspect he thinks a more catty environment might be more to his taste.

You obviously are far more civilised.
This is the black cat we had that looked like your Basil.

This is when he was young. He went ginger like Basil.
I forgot to write that. He was a bigger than average cat. We were told he was a normal moggy when we got him from the RSPCA. But I found out later that Maine Coons come in black.
