Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Shy Violet by Owl City. I spent my teenagehood listening to this song, desperately daydreaming about having my own little girl named Violet someday.
She's mine now, 10 months old and utterly wonderful. ❤

'She dried my eyes, and drifted off,
While every tear was held aloft,
The heavy rain clouds felt terrible,
But she made my stormy skies beautiful'.

Good Charlotte's :

Hey Dad,
I'm writing to you
Not to tell you that I still hate you
Just to ask you how you feel
And how we fell apart
How this fell apart

Are you happy out there in this great wide world?
Do you think about your sons?
Do you miss your little girl?
When you lay your head down,
How do you sleep at night?
Do you even wonder if we're alright?

If we're alright,
We're alright

It's been a long hard road without you by my side
Why weren't you there all the nights that we cried
You broke my mother's heart
You broke your children for life
Its not okay
But we're all right ----
I remember the days you were a hero in my eyes
But those are just a long lost memory of mine
I spent so many years learning how to survive
And I'm writing just to let you know I'm still alive

The days I spent so cold, so hungry,
Were full of hate, I was so angry
The scars run deep inside this tattooed body
There's things I'll take to my grave
But I'm okay
I'm okay

Sometimes I forgive
Yeah, and this time
I'll admit
That I miss you
Said I miss you
Hey Dad.

Also, Good Charlotte's "Hold On", among many other non-Good-Charlotte songs...!

The Beastie Boys Three Mcs and One DJ which like most of their songs is a joyful celebration of music, daftness and having a good time, and then when Ad Rock says 'but don't worry I'll take care 'a ya' and I think of what he and his wife were going through at the time, and it makes me well up.

Remembered another 2 from when my fiancé passed away in 2002...

Ronan Keating - If Tomorrow Never Comes
Oasis - Stop Crying Your Heart Out

Those 2 used to break me Sad

Fascinating Aida - Sometimes

Sometimes I feel so tired and I wish I could see your healing smile
Sometimes I weep in the dark and I wish I could see you the while
Sometimes I feel so old and I wish I could hear you laugh once more
Sometimes I just close my eyes and I wish you would walk through the door

TuTru · 24/04/2018 00:31

Supertramp - Logical song

MsGameandWatching · 24/04/2018 00:36

Find the river - R.E.M.

Me, my thoughts are flowers strewn
Ocean storm, bayberry moon
I have got to leave to find my way
Watch the road and memorize
This life that pass before my eyes
Nothing is going my way

The ocean is the river's goal
A need to leave the water knows
We're closer now than light years to go

There's many different interpretations of these lyrics, as always with R.E.M. but the one I like is that Michael S is saying that the journey is the important thing, the destination doesn't matter, it's what you do on the journey. Loads of R.E.M. music, gets to me, so much so that I couldn't listen to them for years, their music hurt me a bit iyswim? And when I was feeling fragile it would make me feel too much.

After my mum died, I watched the Fault In Our Stars and enjoyed the soundtrack. Listened to the soundtrack in full and heard the song All I Want by Kodaline...I still can't listen to it without welling up and it makes my heart ache and heavy. The first few lines especially. Also Moby Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad gets me too.

Dawes - A Little Bit of Everything

With his back against the San Francisco traffic
On the bridge's side that faces towards the jail
Setting out to join a demographic
He hoists his first leg up over the rail

A phone call's made, police cars show up quickly
The sergeant slams his passenger door
He says, Hey son, why don't you talk through this with me
Just tell me what you're doing it for

Oh, it's a little bit of everything
It's the mountains, it's the fog
It's the news at six o'clock
It's the death of my first dog
It's the angels up above me
It's the song that they don't sing
It's a little bit of everything

There's an older man who stands in a buffet line
He is smiling and he's holding out his plate
And the further he looks back into his timeline
That hard road always led him to today

Making up for when his bright future had left him
And making up for the fact his only son is gone
And letting everything out once his server asks him
Have you figured out yet what it is you want

I want a little bit of everything
The biscuits and the beans
Whatever helps me to forget about The things that brought me to my knees
So pile on those mashed potatoes And an extra chicken wing
I'm having a little bit of everything

Somewhere a pretty girl is writing invitations
To a wedding she has scheduled for the fall
Her man says, Baby, can I make an observation?
You don't seem to be having any fun at all

She said, You just worry about your groomsmen and your shirt size
And rest assured that this is making me feel good
I think that love is so much easier than you realize
If you can give yourself to someone then you should

'Cause its a little bit of everything
The way you choke, the way you ache
It is getting up before you
So I can watch you as you wake
So on that day in late September
It's not some stupid little ring
I'm giving a little bit of everything

Oh, it's a little bit of everything
It's the matador and the bull
It's the suggested daily dosage
It is the red moon when it's full

All these psychics and these doctors
They're all right and they're all wrong
It's like trying to make out every word
When they should simply hum alone
It's not some message written in the dark
Or some truth that no one's sees
It's a little bit of everything

Never Went to Church by The Streets - just breaks me even though I've never been in that situation. It's such a brave and honest song from Mike Skinner.

I Miss You - Blink 182 "don't waste your time on me, I'm already the voice inside your head"

The hymn How Great Thou Art. Reminds me of my lovely nan. We had it at DC2 christening and I couldn't sing it as I was crying so much.

GoldenBuns · 07/05/2018 23:25

'Home We'll Go' - Walk Off The Earth

Don't let your head hang low
You've seen the darkest skies I know
Let your heart run child like horses in the wild
So take my hand and home we'll go
The sun it glows like gold
Feeling warm as a burning coal
Let your soul shine bright like diamonds in the sky
So take my hand and home we'll go

ohhelpohnoitsa · 10/05/2018 21:01

I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it.
I had hoped you'd see my face and that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over

The Adele song - she took the worda right out if my head circa 2005

I am kloot-the same deep water as me

Swim out to the ocean
Drown your thoughts out at sea
Dip your hands in the water
The same deep water as me

proudbrows · 01/08/2018 14:08

So many amazing songs and lyrics on here!!!! I was up till 2am listening to some of them and adding to my playlist. One that made me cry from the first time I heard the opening bars is ‘Cancer’ by My Chemical Romance

Turn away
If you could get me a drink
Of water 'cause my lips are chapped and faded
Call my aunt Marie
Help her gather all my things
And bury me
In all my favorite colors
My sisters and my brothers, still
I will not kiss you
'Cause the hardest part of this
Is leaving you
Now turn away
'Cause I'm awful just to see
'Cause all my hair's abandoned all my body
All my agony
Know that I will never marry
Baby I'm just soggy from the chemo
But counting down the days to go
It just ain't living
And I just hope you know
That if you say (if you say)
Good-bye today (good-bye today)
I'd ask you to be true (I'd ask you to be true)
'Cause the hardest part of this
Is leaving you
'Cause the hardest part of this
Is leaving you
