Ronnie Drew singing And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda is one of the most heart-wrenching recordings I can think of. All the more so for his absolutely straight delivery.

OP your Will Young song I'm glad that you've recovered from whatever the surgery was for. That song reminds me of my ex but for different reasons, it was very early in the relationship when I first heard it and liked it but ultimately he turned out to be the person in the song who couldn't do all of those things.

There's one which I heard in a new light recently, Joshua Radin - One of those Days.

I realised that it is about a bereavement.
