Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Taylor Swift has an album track called 'Clean' and every single line reflects a relationship I'm trying to move on from/forget but it's just so damn hard:

"10 months sober, I must admit, just because you're clean don't mean you don't miss it
10 months older, I won't give in, now that I'm clean I'm never gonna risk it.

The drought was the very worst. When the flowers that we'd grown together, died of thirst"

Going to play it again in August when it has been 10 months Sad

Last kiss by Pearl Jam. I had a miscarriage at 12 weeks recently and this song is in my head constantly and just makes me so sad.

Shesipsacocacola · 31/01/2018 09:55

Moby, We Are All Made of Stars.
The whole song gives me the most exquisite pain in my heart.
Hadn't heard it for years and heard it at a house party at the weekend. I actually burst into tears.

Hey folks,

Thanks for the Classics noms - this thread has stirred our cold January hearts so we shall be moving it across now.

PETRONELLAS · 31/01/2018 10:20

Coldplay’s ‘Everything’s Not Lost’ every time. It’s uplifting, and comforting. Lots of others:
Local Boy in the Photograph - Stereophonics
Love Song - The Cure
Stand By Me - Ben E King
7 Years - Lima’s Graham

These songs touch me somewhere. So glad this is in Classics. Great thread.

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 31/01/2018 17:35

I sang You've Got A Friend to my mum as she died. Can't hear it now without crying.
The Pogues Thousands Are Sailing:
"Did you work upon the railroad
Did you rid the streets of crime
Did you buy a shot at happiness from the five and dime?"
Ronnie Drew singing And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda is one of the most heart-wrenching recordings I can think of. All the more so for his absolutely straight delivery.

TillyMint81 · 31/01/2018 17:45

You have all helped to make this such a wonderful and touching thread, that is full of some of the most beautiful songs and lyrics that I have ever seen.

I have discovered lots of new songs that I have never heard of and I have loved reading your touching stories and how these songs have pulled on your hearts.

I am so thrilled to see that the thread is being moved to Classics, as we will never lose them all now Smile

OP your Will Young song Flowers I'm glad that you've recovered from whatever the surgery was for. That song reminds me of my ex but for different reasons, it was very early in the relationship when I first heard it and liked it but ultimately he turned out to be the person in the song who couldn't do all of those things.

There's one which I heard in a new light recently, Joshua Radin - One of those Days.

I realised that it is about a bereavement.

Wait right here
Was all she said to me
And so right here I stay
Time has reached our home
And I've been left alone
It's carried her away
And everyone keeps saying
Nothing helps but time
Time is all I own
Time won't stop replaying over in my mind
I watch the hours slow down

Agerbilatemycardigan · 31/01/2018 23:16

All of the above, plus a song by the Korgis, Everybody's Got to Learn Sometime.

Had almost forgotten about it until it was on Ashes to Ashes on the Drama channel. Gave me goosebumps.

Ginxed · 31/01/2018 23:25

Morrisey - Come Back To Camden

Your leg came to rest against mine
Then you lounged with knees up and apart
And me and my heart, we knew
We just knew
For evermore

camelssmell · 01/02/2018 23:20

Infinite Child- fletcher Pilon. He wrote it for his brother who died in an accident a few months earlier

permanentlyexhaustedpigeon · 02/02/2018 11:10

Another one: Faithless, I want my family back. The last verse gets me every time.

LadyHaleth · 02/02/2018 11:16

Kirsty MacColl - Days (played at my sister's funeral)

twoundertwox · 02/02/2018 21:57

Love this!
McFly - Love is easy.
I love them, walked out the church to this after we married, and some lyrics were in husband wedding speech "if this is love then love is easy, it's the easiest thing to do. If this is love then love completes me, coz I feel like I've been missing you"
Another McFly - The heart never lies.
This live was just absolutely the best thing I've heard and still gives me that feeling. Also just love the words "If you wanna fight
I'll stand right beside you
The day that you fall
I'll be right behind you"
Guaranteed tears is Bette Middler, wind beneath my wings. My grandmas funeral song Sad

limon · 04/02/2018 18:57

EastMidsGPs · 04/02/2018 19:25

Some fantastic place by Squeeze

In my life - Beatles

vampirethriller · 04/02/2018 20:52

Feather on the Clyde.. God knows I've failed but he knows that I've tried.

And I can't sing O Holy Night because it makes me cry but there's no reason really!

notacooldad · 04/02/2018 21:12

There's loads if versions of The Green Fields of France but The version by The Men They couldn't hang always gets me!
