Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Two ones that make me think of my nephew who died as a baby.
Blessed be your name by Matt Redman
"lessed be Your name
When the sun's shining down on me
When the world's 'all as it should be'
Blessed be Your name
Blessed be Your name
On the road marked with suffering
Though there's pain in the offering
Blessed be Your name"

And from In Christ Alone:
"From life's first cry to final breath"

Both were fairly new songs when he died.

And an older one: Bookends which is a Simon and Garfunkel one, about growing old:
"Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you."

EnidButton · 15/01/2018 18:13

I heard one the other day that made me almost cry... I think it was One Step Closer by (I think?) Christina Aguilera

Yawning It's A Thousand Years by Christina Perri. It's beautiful.

I have died everyday waiting for you
Darling don't be afraid
I have loved you for a thousand years
I'll love you for a thousand more

AntsDeck · 15/01/2018 18:13

Thanks to all of you who have lost someone

Another one, all of Nothing compares to U, Sinead O'Connor

David Bowie Life on Mars is incredible. Work of art.

AntsDeck · 15/01/2018 18:17

And I’d give up forever to touch you cause I know that you’d feel me somehow - Iris, Goo Goo Dolls

You were an angel in the shape of my Mum - Supermarket Flowers, Ed Sheeran

Now I have met an angel in person and she looks perfect - Perfect, Ed Sheeran. It was playing on the radio when my Mum was dying in hospital and it just summed up how I felt about her.

I have to walk away from the radio if Nothing Compares To U is on ... the song crushes me either Snead's or Prince's version

babyboots · 15/01/2018 18:22

Small bump by Ed Sheehan, listened to this on repeat after my miscarriage- felt so good to be able to cry hard...

Down by the River by Bruce Springsteen- perfect capture of small town, working class can't escape-ness of America...chocked me up when he takes about trading in his dreams for a union card and a wedding suit....

EnidButton · 15/01/2018 18:23

Questions of science
Science and progress
Do not speak as loud as my heart

Nobody said it was easy
No one ever said it would be this hard
Oh, take me back to the start

The Scientist by Coldplay was playing when we were coming home from the last bit of our last round of Ivf. It didn't work. These lyrics really summed it up for me. I know that's not what the ingredients is written about but it spoke to me at the time.

MyDarlingWhatIfYouFly · 15/01/2018 18:24

"Grow" by Frances. I cry in the car when it come on, every time.

EnidButton · 15/01/2018 18:24

*the lyrics are written about (wtf autocorrect?)

Foxyloxy1plus1 · 15/01/2018 18:29

Phil Collins Separate Lives

You have no right to ask me how I feel
You have no right to speak to me so kind
I can't go on holding on to time
Now that we're living separate lives.

AntsDeck · 15/01/2018 18:36

Beverley Craven, Promise me
Genesis, Please Don't Ask Me

Loving You by Minnie Riperton I have always liked this song and it was so beautifully sung it would bring a lump to my throat.

Whilst driving it came on the radio and they announced she had just died , I cried so much I had to stop and bawl my eyes out.

AntsDeck · 15/01/2018 18:39

Daniel, Elton John
For A Friend, Communards

Wasn't expecting that - Jamie Lawson. Brings a lump to the throat just thinking about it.

Walking in the air - Aled Jones. Reminds me of a particular time in my life. I'd just started with depression but before I knew what it was. The song came on the radio and I couldn't stop crying. Cried for about three hours. Just had a quick listen again now and got that shivers down the spine

Coffeeandcrochet · 15/01/2018 18:44

U2 - With or without you
Frankie goes to Hollywood - the power of love
Moody Blues - Nights in white satin

And from Wichita Lineman "and I need you more than want you, and I want you for all time..."

There's something so yearning and poignant about all of them.

HazelBite · 15/01/2018 18:45

As you are ....Rag n Bone Man, (been married to DH for coming up to 40 years when I first heard this, simple words , simply put but brought a lump to my throat).

2old2beamum · 15/01/2018 18:45

Beautiful Boy by John Lennon, played at my beautiful boys funeral. Showing my age! Reduces me to tears every time I hear it.

Coffeeandcrochet · 15/01/2018 18:48

Also agree with some that others have posted - Iris by Goo Goo Dolls, Hurt by Johnny Cash.

Oh, and I can't sing "I vow to thee my country" - or listen to Jupiter from The Planets - without seriously choking up. "And soul by soul, and silently her shining bounds increase, and her ways are ways of gentleness and all her paths are peace".

ElsaMars · 15/01/2018 18:48

The whole of She by Elvis Costello
Dance with my father by Luther Vandross which is odd because I don't see my Dad and have just an OK relationship with long term step dad.
In 'A whole new world' the Aladdin song, the line 'soaring, tumbling, freewheeling, through an enless diamond sky' always gets me.

EastMidsGPs · 15/01/2018 18:50

Yes to For A Friend Communards

Shipbuilding Elvis Costello .. words so apt

Ratbagcatbag · 15/01/2018 18:54

I love this thread

My life has changed so much in the past 12 months, some expected, a lot not.

For me praying - Kesha is awesome.

I'm proud of who I am
No more monsters, I can breathe again
And you said that I was done
Well, you were wrong and now the best is yet to come
'Cause I can make it on my own, oh
And I don't need you, I've found a strength I've never known.

We will be - Matt wills

When your hopes and dreams are floating down the river, just remember we have the power to believe, just stand up and deliver. We will be, we will be.

MoonlightMedicine · 15/01/2018 18:55

Baby mine - Bette Midler’s version
Beautiful Boy - Lennon
God Only Knows - beach boys
Adia - sarah MacLachlan
I know it’s over - The Smiths
Unfinished Sympathy - Massive Attack

And many more. Great thread!

DumbledoresApprentice · 15/01/2018 18:56

“Lover, you should have come over” by Jeff Buckley and “First day of my life” by Bright Eyes. My favourite lyrics are

It’s never over
My kingdom for a kiss upon her shoulder

and

This is the first day of my life
Swear I was born right in the doorway
I went out in the rain, suddenly everything changed
They're spreading blankets on the beach
