Because they are 'that good'? I realise different songs may affect people differently Smile

I have lots:

The last part of Do the right thing, Simply Red
The last part of Light my fire, Will Young
The whole of Sandstorm, Darude
The chorus of Love Love, Take That
The chorus of The Flood, Take That
The whole of Praying for time, George Michael
The whole of Sing Hallelujah, Dr Alban
The last chorus, to the end Confusion, ELO
The last bit, to fade, Rise, Gabrielle
All of Don't You, Simple Minds
All of Shine, Years and Years
All of Paradise by the dashboard light, Meatloaf
All of Home By The Sea, Genesis

Just off the top of my head Smile

Waiting in Vain by Bob Marley

Yvonne1958 · 08/02/2018 22:49

Daniel, Elton John, always reminds me of my brother who died in 1976. Many other songs connected to him. Loved the Pink Floyd stuff earlier.
Bridge over troubled waters, Simon and Garfunkel, their harmony and the purity of their voices
Susan Boyle on BGT, I dreamed a dream. I’d never heard the song before and it was amazing.
I’m new to MN and I’ve read this thread from the beginning and I’ve laughed, cried and sobbed all day. Thanks to all of you

Yvonne1958 · 09/02/2018 00:26

Lukas Graham, You’re not there

Bloomed · 09/02/2018 00:38

You have been loved by George Michael

WheresTheEvidence · 09/02/2018 01:03

And my dad's probably had a bloody hard day
But he's been good fun and bubblin and joking away
And the procession of cars stuck behind
Are getting more impatient and angry but we don't mind

They tell me your blue sky's faded to gray
They tell me your passion's gone away
And I don't need no carrying on
You tell me your life's been way off line
You're falling to pieces every time

HarshingMyMellow · 09/02/2018 01:07

Take good care of my baby by Bobby Vee.

Takes me back to when I had just had my DD (6 weeks early) and I was laying in the hospital bed just willing to hold her in my arms.
She was in NICU with a terrible infection.

Still puts a lump in my throat, even now.

LeslieKnopefan · 09/02/2018 01:17

Someone mentioned above piece by piece by Kelly Clarkson. Even though I am lucky to have never had that pain in my life of my dad walking away if destroys me every time.

She said it live on American idol (can be found on YouTube) and she cries as she sings it. The pain is so real to her that her dad didn’t want her until she was famous.

LeslieKnopefan · 09/02/2018 01:27

One other that hasn’t been mentioned.

Alanis Morissette- your house.

Months after splitting with my ex and feeling like I had finally moved on I heard this song and it destroyed me. It’s about wanting to be in his house, just to remember how it was when they were together but she finds a letter from his new lover and realises they are really over.

Ghost Town by Adam Lambert

Died last night in my dreams
All the machines
Had been disconnected
Time was thrown at the wind
And all of my friends
Had been disaffected

It was released here while I was waiting for my mum to die, I couldn't be there and it took weeks 😞

Thanks to all of you

I agree about Sam Smith, absolutely beautiful voice.

My favourite line is in a Joni Mitchell song, A Case of You

CheeseyToast · 09/02/2018 07:23

Love is touching souls
Surely you touched mine
Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time

In Loving Memory
Alter Bridge
LYRICS
Thanks for all
You've done
I've missed you for so long
I can't believe you're gone
You still live
In me
I feel you in the wind
You've got me constantly
I never knew what it was to be loved
Thanks for all you've done
I've missed you for so long
I can't believe you're gone and
You still live in me
I feel you in the wind
You guide me constantly
I never knew what it was to be alone, no
'Cause you were always there for me
You were always home waiting
But now I come home and I miss your face
So smiling down on me
I close my eyes to see
And I know you're a part of me
And it's your song that sets me free
I sing it while I feel, I can't hold on
I sing tonight 'cause it comforts me
I carry the things that remind me of you
In loving memory of the one that was so true
You were as kind as you could be
And even though you're gone
You still mean the world to me.

My favourite song. His voice is so beautiful.

Another one is by the same band, called Wonderful life. It’s very poignant for me as I had just broken up with my long-term boyfriend of 10 years the day before the concert. We still went and stood in each other’s arms sobbing as they played this song. It was as if he was singing it to us.

Close your eyes,
And just hear me sing,
One last long goodbye,
One last song before you spread your wings.
There's so much left to say,
And before this moment slips away
What a wonderful life,
For as long as you've been at my side,
And I want you to know,
I loved you so
Then the cold night calls,
And the tears fall like rain,
It's so hard letting go,
Of the one thing I'll never replace
And soon you will be gone,
But these words, they will live on
What a wonderful life,
For as long as you've been at my side,
And I want you to know,
I'll miss you so,
And though our days come to an end,
No, I'll never love like this again,
What a wonderful life my friend
And all that I am,
You let me be,
I will remember you,
For all that you've done,
And given to me

Just listening to little wing by jimi Hendrix and there's something about the guitar towards the end that makes me feel so sad, I so wish that song didn't fade out!

SilentBob · 17/02/2018 15:56

Snow Patrol feat. Martha Wainwright Set the Fire to the Third Bar. My ultimate ‘get to me’ song- I have had to sit in my car and wait til it’s over before I can move whenever (rarely, but it has happened) i have heard it on the radio. I don’t know why, I have no back story, it just moves me.

AdidasGirl · 17/02/2018 16:13

Distant Sun by Crowded House.

NCFT18 · 17/02/2018 16:18

Foundations by Kate Nash.

"My fingertips are holding onto the cracks in our foundations.
I know that I should let go but I can't."

My ex forced me into a termination.
He dropped me at the train station and let me go on my own.
He then picked me up from the station once it was done and he asked me for a receipt as it was a private clinic.

That song was playing when I was waiting to go down to theatre.

AntsDeck · 17/02/2018 16:35

Kayleigh by Marillion

TheCatsWhiskers · 17/02/2018 17:41

George Michael, You have been loved.

For what's the use in pressing palms
When children fade in mother's arms
It's a cruel world, we've so much to lose
And what we have to learn, we rarely choose

TheCatsWhiskers · 17/02/2018 17:43

Tomhardy, just saw you had posted it too. So sorry for your loss.

SleepingInYourFlowerbed · 17/02/2018 17:47

Not sure if it's been mentioned but Days by the Kinks makes me well up every single time

LuxuryMilk · 17/02/2018 17:49

Not a big cold play fan but the “when you lose something you can’t replace” bit of fix you gets me bawling.

“Well I’ve been afraid of changing,
Cos I built my life around you”

NukaColaGirl · 07/03/2018 19:30

The whole of Its Been Awhile by Staind, Tulips by Bloc Party, Acrobat by Maximo Park, One Last Breath by Creed, Hurricaine by Theory of a Deadman, Numb by Linkin Park, Goodbye To You by Michelle Branch, Tomorrow and Why by Avril Lavigne, You Found Me by the Fray.

Eyes shut-Years and years
'nothings gonna hurt me with my eyes shut, I can see through them'
We were going through ds2 asd diagnosis and this song just reminds me of that whole time feeling sad, not wanting to talk to anyone now I still listen to it but it makes me feel empowered we did get through it as a family and if I'm feeling down I can shut my eyes and feel sad for a little while.
Bon Iver-Holocene
'And at once I knew I was not magnificent'
This is my absolute favourite song ever, I listen to it everyday without fail it reminds me of being so incredibly happy in my life, we even had it on while signing our marriage certificate abroad, whenever I listen to it, it takes me right back to that moment and I never, ever want to forget that feeling. Every year we visit the country we got married in and I always listen to it taking off on the plane feeling incredibly happy! Im not even sure why the lyrics aren't exactly happy, its just the whole tone of the song its beautiful! So it doesn't exactly make my heart hurt but its very special to me, it makes me very emotional and means alot.

Hotel California-Eagles
This song really hurts me, it reminds me of my Grandad who died when I was only 11, he always played it in the car, I really miss him.

Faith Hill-There you'll be
'you were right there for me'
'I'll keep a part of you with me, and everywhere I am there you'll be'
Makes me cry overtime, I listened to it a lot after my Grandad passed away its such a sad song he was always there for me.

Coldplay-Fix you
'tears stream down your face, when you lose something you cannot replace' 'and I will try to fix you' such a sad song

Somethings not right- Lily Allen (Pan soundtrack)
Makes me cry every single time.
'We had forever, we never got it together. I waited for you, for you I made it better'
'Somethings not right, cause there aren't any stars in the sky tonight'
