DS malfunctioning

soapybubbles123 · 29/09/2014 20:25

Purchased new directly from the manufacturer six months ago. Beautiful outer packing, all parts intact and delivered quickly.

However, keeps malfunctioning at night; will shut down perfectly for several days and then develops a glitch and makes a high pitched shrieking noise when returned to the night charging unit.

Neither me nor DH have the technical knowledge to fix this fault but I'm hoping there might be an update we can install?

I'm drastically in need of a disable function for my ears, otherwise I am likely to go into overdrive and have a complete meltdown.

I acquired a 1990DP model a couple of years ago and, though I enjoyed the product when I first brought it into my life, more faults have become apparent as time as gone on. The volume control has little to no effect during Great British Bake Off, it fires empty food packets and dirty clothes around the flat and there seems to be a glitch with the FIFA 15 update, which plays on a loop no matter how many times I try to reboot. I have attempted manual shut down in the recharge unit but this model seems to recharge automatically at around 2am, so I now go to bed and leave it to it. This is possibly to be expected in such a mid-range product with no previous owner, perhaps I should have gone for a previously-owned 1980-1985 model?

ToothlessFanClub · 30/09/2014 11:50

Cherry, the older models have sometimes got undesirable apps installed which are hard to get rid off permanently. They sometimes reject any upgrade point blanc. I wouldn't trade your model in for an older version until you have exhausted all the possible bug fixes and upgrades.

moxon · 30/09/2014 11:52

We seriously need to speak to manufacturing about the longevity of some of these faults. I have inherited 1945M and 1949F models and I have spent 36 years trying to fix them up so they function properly to my specifications. I have grown dearly attached to them but the repeated minor faults drive me up the wall.
I find the younger models (in particular the 2014 versions) much easier to drill and, frankly, easier on the eye.
For what it is worth, the 1978 unit I acquired in that selfsame year is just fab, and has never given me any problems whatsoever. I am definitely taking that one to the grave with me.

middlings · 30/09/2014 11:55

Oh moxon I have both the 1949F and M models and their inability to accept upgrades without sending out warning signals about a problem with their machinery is INFURIATING! You have my sympathies Flowers.

cherrybombxo · 30/09/2014 11:55

ToothlessFanClub I don't think I could part with my current model anyway, I've found that repeated updates to terms and conditions seem to keep most issues at bay.

Well played you lot, well played Grin

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 30/09/2014 12:19

Oh threesocks I hate to say this but that Minecraft Obsession app is still running on my 2002 model - I kept expecting it to wear out but in fact it got worse as it auto- downloaded the Stampy Longnose 1.0 add-on with the special Annoying Laugh feature. I am now trying to overwrite it with the FIFA 2015 app with some success - maybe that will also work on the newer models too?

sherbetpips · 30/09/2014 12:50

Is there any virus fix? It appears to have spread to the DH unit?

soapybubbles123 · 30/09/2014 12:50

Unit now alternating shrieking with nyang nyang noises. Feck knows what's going on.

Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.

OP Outer Casing repair coating is available at GP locations. They are usually free or of nominal charge. Some are more use then others unfortunately Trial and Error App applies. Faulty casing can cause rather a lot of Wailing and Shrieking leading to charge malfunction.

Frequent intake of CakeBrew and Wine assist the parent port in feeling better but generally end up leaving them feeling more drained. The veg & protein app work better even though boring by comparison Taking shifts & ear plugs 101 is a fantastic app.

DH model is frequently faulty and results in Great Stupidity when sufficient charging is not received. I think remembering both Also Sleep Deprived and Doing His Best modes helps to keep Domestic Harmony app working.

There is an add on which some people find incredibly fucking annoying, I myself love it - it's called the 'This too shall pass' chant, optional download.

ChippingInLatteLover · 30/09/2014 12:58

Shrieking and nyang nyang noises often preceed the Fucking Teeth add on becoming apparent. Frequent calpol application does help. Rubbing Gel also. Allowing DC. 06 to gnaw on random household object has been known to reduce nyang nyang.

GnomeDePlume · 30/09/2014 12:59

I think that a general warning should be sent out about the TEEN operating system. It seems to be vulnerable to a number of viruses & faults:

  • PHISHing for financial information ('can I have some money?')
  • TEEN OS seems to disable the self-hygiene system which had been working well. Mind be careful, the LYNX anti virus software can just mask the problem
  • TEEN OS seems to disable the self-motivation software
ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/09/2014 13:05

The StampyLongNose Add-on is causing issues with both my 2003 and 2007 models. I have found that a threat of an extended shut down of the Add-on was the only way to remove the whine both units developed when the HW survey revealed incomplete results requiring immediate rectification.

Catsmamma · 30/09/2014 13:06

my 95 model has her own mobility function my car but recently the unit has powered down and a forced reboot due to broken clutch cable has resulted in a default to I.Need.A.Lift.2.7

She does have STUDENTLOAN upgrade and NICEBoyfriend app though.

FryOneFatManic · 30/09/2014 13:08

My pink 2000 model has developed the problem of not switching on in the mornings. I've recently been contemplating a bull horn or cattle prod, not sure which would be most effective.

My 2004 blue model has the issue that volume can't be shut off until night time recharging. There is a constant string of noises all day, every day, although I'm hoping that replacement of a faulty tablet may improve the situation.

seasaltbaby · 30/09/2014 13:13

Actually crying with laughter & hoping this doesn't interrupt the sleep mode for my new 0.3 DS model as this function is only achieved when firmly attached to mains unit, day or nightGrin
I've also thrown away all instruction manuals that came with this model as clearly none of them apply to my version-apparently there's a 'self settling app' you can download but I'll be damned if I can get this to work!!

middlings · 30/09/2014 13:16

seasalt my 2012 model came with that selfsettle app preinstalled. Brilliant it was. Sadly, I forgot to pre-order with the 2013 model and it took 6 months to get it delivered.

So, you're probably looking at another three months or so. Although I've heard it can take longer. Problem is the customer service for that particular app is shit. And I've never found an effective manual.

middlings · 30/09/2014 13:18

Oh soapy, the self awareness automatic upgrade has obviously been installed. It has a few glitches at the start but the patches come through pretty quickly. The noises change and become a bit more palatable or you get used to them and stop noticing.

soapybubbles123 · 30/09/2014 13:19

TeethingGranule and PaintworkCream add-ons applied repeatedly have resulted in reduction of NyangNyang10.0 and unit is now successful charging in the Pram Port

It's too early Wine isn't it? Blush

OP posts:
middlings · 30/09/2014 13:22

Sun's definitely over the yardarm where I am!!

I say take advantage of the Pram Port use to have a glass of white with your lunch Grin

wineoclocktimeye · 30/09/2014 13:24

Also had delivery problems with the '02 blue model which arrived 6 weeks early and was much smaller than described in the brochure. However, insertion in a heating device soon sorted it out. It has developed a grunt malfunction recently and I do wonder if that is linked to the fact it now has apparently acquired all the knowledge it will ever need!

The '06, also blue, model does have an annoying habit of copy-chatting the 02 models attitude, but we have found placing it in a darkened room earlier than normal helps with this.

soapybubbles123 · 30/09/2014 13:24

They become self aware middlings Shock

Next you'll be telling me they become independently mobile and don't stay where you put them Confused

OP posts:
wineoclocktimeye · 30/09/2014 13:25

Meant copy-catting but chatting does work as well!
