Chris did you know Bavaria (where we sadly no longer live) has the biggest concentration of breweries in Europe (apparently in Franconia - a small part of Bavaria it could be the highest concentration in the world). DH lived in Nuremberg for 11 years and every restaurant seems to sell different/ their own beer and it is often cheap to drink beer. I think by law they have to have one drink on the menu that is cheaper than beer...

Sorry I digress. Oh, except that pretzels are also really a Bavarian thing and you can buy them everywhere from little kiosks with different fillings. If for example you order one with butter in it isn't "buttered" oh no, it has slices of butter in it.... Sounds awful but my god it's amazing on a cold day!

Saggy I need friends! I'm rather alone here Sad but I'm also rather rubbish at wurst. I know a few and I can certainly take you many butchers/markets etc and ask about smoked sausage for you to sample as you wish. Sounds like an adventure. Perhaps after FYF is over I shall organise a German sausage tour .

steppemum · 29/01/2014 20:54

Ok, so some one asked about a VIP to open the festival:

That would be CHRIS and her DH and all the little CHRISLETS!!

And ladies and gentlemen and mumsnetters, we proudly present, our hero, the reason we are all here, the one and only, the lovely -

CHRIIIIIIIISSSSS

DejaVuAllOverAgain · 29/01/2014 21:01

Grin at Chrislets.

Agree with Steppemum.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 29/01/2014 21:03

I'll be your friend Nutella. Smile
TBH I like all the different bratwurst, it doesn't have to be smoked!
But I'd definitely be up for a sausage tour! Grin

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 29/01/2014 21:05

Steppe I'm going to leave this thread with a monstrous ego!

Nutella, I just asked dh about Bavaria and got a lecture about Oktoberfest :) We can do a German exchange! I'll bring you a horse, you can turn him into sausages!

Betty, that is a weird loo. Of course! Sloe gin! I love sloegin.

Pants, last year I caught dd helping herself to the leftover pimms fruit. She was very happy.

OP posts:
DameDeepRedBetty · 29/01/2014 21:27

Of course the weird loo in the posh hotel would have been absolutely perfect for Bridezillas in full scale Meringue wedding dresses. There was tons of space on either side, and one has to wonder how a Meringue is organised during trips to the loo!

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 29/01/2014 21:34

Interesting. I got married last year. In true FYC style, it was 50% children, BIL wore shorts and a tshirt and was complimented on his sensibleness, everyone got on, the sun shone, my dress cost £35, and it was all lovely.

I can't even be a stroppy bride.

Team, that is a grand joke, and a kazoo! I love kazoos for five seconds at a time and bongos! And meringues (not very interesting fact about me and meringues, as an eight year old I ate so many I was physically sick and then couldn't touch them for 20 years, but I like them again now).

Grin it was! And it was so sad, they were my favourite thing! My mother had made loads for Christmas drinks and I ate them. I ate all of them.

I couldn't even look at them without wanting to throw up, for 20 years!

I really must go to bed now... Goodnight Chris. Slightly less busy day tomorrow, hope I can be pissing about on MN around a bit more than today.

AcrossthePond55 · 30/01/2014 02:55

Just read both threads. First I was like 'Hmmm". Then I was like "Wait, WHAT?". Now I'm like 'Oh hells to the NO!".

Pretty amazing what people who think of themselves as 'saviours' (even of horses) feel they are entitled to. "Blessed are the horse rescuers, for they shall be given every fecking thing they want! For FREEEEE!!"

I'm too far away to contribute to the festival. But if I could, I would offer my DS2, who plays the didgeridoo, DS1 who plays bass (stand up & guitar), one very vocal Dachshund, and DH and myself who have been known to knock back a few and sing very loud covers of '70s rock. Out of tune.

FYChris, you seem to have everything well in hand. Carry on, Ma'am.

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 30/01/2014 08:21

Across, :) we 'll set up a video link so you can attend. I do like belting out 70s rock. I hope I've got things in hand. It's hard to say.

Betty, I hope so too :)

I have had no sleep. Blooming baby. Argh. My eyes want to be closed. Morning all.

Chris I've been lurking on your threads and reckon you and your family are fabulous.

Unfortunately as I live half way round the world I can't attend FYF, which is a shame as DH is an excelent BBQer (everything hand made and fresh) and everybody wants to come to ours when we have a BBQ. So could we set up Skype on the big screen a la Glasto and we'll invite all our mates over for a barbie on the roof and join in that way Grin

Youarejustwordsonascreenpeople · 30/01/2014 08:38

Oooooh! we could have a screen each Acroosthepond

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 30/01/2014 08:50

Youarejust, that would be brilliant! Although I do think it's pretty mean to tell me about the best BBQ and then offer to show me the food by video link Grin

When there was the 'scare' about the contents of the burgers, we discussed this with DS (8). DH is very much a meatlover and said he had eaten horse (in France). DS said that he would like to try some. But he would like to try it, knowing that he was eating it, not when it was meant to be something else. Seems fair to me! (I'm vegetarian so leave them to eat 'proper' meat and have something else instead).

I do like a good sole gin - I can't imagine that you managed to harvest any this autumn though FYC?

I might be able to borrow a lure so that we can organise terrier (and other dog) races to keep everyone amused and stop the dogs chasing the cats that are attending - I don't think that the cats would want to join in.

tripper20 · 30/01/2014 09:30

Chinese new year - it's now the year of the horse Shock

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 30/01/2014 09:32

Mistle, I haven't tried horse, apparently it's very nice and much leaner than beef, so better for you. But I agree that you should always know what you're eating.

This is the first year in a long time that I did not make sloe gin

OP posts:
ColdTeaAgain · 30/01/2014 09:41

Oh great idea for video link for FYF attendees around the world! Grin

How are you today FYF? Any plans?

Well I have just discovered that DP has used all the milk, the pushchair AND sling are both in the car which DP has with him at work so I can't even go out to get milk. The thought of a whole day without a cup of tea is truely horrifying. WIBU to put formula in a cup of tea?! Confused

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 30/01/2014 09:51

Coldtea, not unreasonable, but it won't be nice!

OP posts:
DameDeepRedBetty · 30/01/2014 09:58

I was driven to try formula in tea once, truly vile weather and I didn't want to drag snotty baby twins out.

It was disgusting.

Sorry, not what you wanted to hear ColdTeaAgain

AngelaDaviesHair · 30/01/2014 10:06

Meringue joke (has to be said in best Glaswegian accent you can manage):

A man walks into a bakery in Glasgow and says "Is that a macaroon, or a meringue?"

"No, you're right, it's a macaroon".

[Meringue/or am I wrong, geddit?]

FuckYouChrisAndThatHorse · 30/01/2014 10:11

Angela, :) that is a good joke. I smirked.
