I am not sure if this is the right place for this but my mum (EMIN) had asked us to keep her mumsnet friends updated on her cancer battle.

I have already posted on the 'cancer' thread but wanted to make sure I had done what she wanted.

Mum - wife, mother of three, foster mother to over 80 children and grandmother of one - passed away peacefully in her sleep at 2:50 this morning. We were all with her, holding her hand and telling her we loved her.

Yesterday all of her family came to visit and they spent time with her, each of them getting their private time to talk to her and just be there with her and for her.

All she had ever wanted was to be at home with her family around her and she got exactly what she wanted. She will be missed so very much and we are devastated that she was taken so early.

She loved to read threads on fostering as babies were her life. She lurked a fair bit and would just offer words of guidance, comfort or encouragement where she felt she could help. In later months as she fought cancer she concentrated more on the cancer thread and I know it gave her some comfort.

She would have been 60 in October and we are devastated she never got to have her big family party but we get some comfort from the fact that all of her loved ones were with her yesterday.

I don't know how many people she communicated with outside of the boards or if any crossedover to real life but if anyone is interested in coming to the funeral once it is arranged then by all means drop me a private message and I can pass on the details.

What very sad news, a truly inspirational lady who made total strangers want to be better people

AngelsWithSilverWings · 04/09/2013 18:28

I'm so sorry to hear your sad news.

I remember the thread about caring for the baby who had been exposed to heroin. It really struck a chord with me as my adopted DD was also born drug dependent and her wonderful foster carer went through a really difficult time with her.

My DD is now a lovely happy five year old with no ongoing problems thanks to the wonderful care her foster mother gave her during her first year.

Your Mum has made a huge difference to the lives of so many babies and will always be a special person to them.

Gingerstrumpet · 04/09/2013 18:30

I'll never forget the posts about the drug-addicted baby.

A beautifully - written account of a beautiful act.

I'm so sorry for your terrible loss.

Rest in peace, EMIN.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. EMIN was a true loving, caring wonderful foster carer.
As an adoptive mother of three children. I know how difficult being a foster carer can be.
Look after yourselves and thank you for taking the time to let us all know.

I've just read EMIN's thread about the drug dependent baby - the image of the baby tucked under EMIN'S chin inside her dressing gown will stay with me for ever - what an inspirational lady.

EMIN's daughter, you must be so proud of your Mum. Wishing you peace.
