I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

I bought DH and the DCs a Big City flexible racetrack thing from ELC. I am having so much fun designing my own tracks Blush

AfternoonNap · 10/01/2012 16:37

Oh Bonsoir - that sounds even worse that our nightly ordeal. (live in Belgium but have a French French teacher - soooo difficult).

legallyblond · 10/01/2012 16:38

Oh... Bonsoir, you are reminding me... my CDs are in musically chronological order - Medieval, baroque, classical, romantic etc then alphabetical within each period... Blush

santaspunk · 10/01/2012 16:42

I really enjoy my job teaching physics. For example, today I was demonstrating a 100 year old experiment using an authentic Crookes tube to demonstrate cathode rays.

Also lots of chat about standard model and super symmetry. Magic!

Bonsoir · 10/01/2012 16:44

DD is a bit like me too. This afternoon, after I had picked her up from school and was taking her to her art class, she asked whether she could continue having her tutor next (academic) year. When I said yes, she grinned and said "Great."

GiganticusBottomus · 10/01/2012 16:47

Oooh yes, I love a jigsaw too.
I love my local library, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside
I adore making a good list
I am interested in the weather and have a geeky app on my phone about the weather
I was genuinely excited and pleased to get the following things for Christmas: a book about crochet, a thermos and a torch.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/01/2012 16:52

Oh goodness where to start?

I have massive crushes on dead writers, and not even particularly famous or exciting ones.

University Challenge/Only Connect is often the highlight of my week (although I NEVER get anything except the missing vowels on OC, I sometimes do quite well on UC).

I have a poetry section in my bookshelves, and can recite a poem for just about any occasion (a wonder I have not yet been killed by friends and family).

The shipping forecast and "Sailing By" makes me feel happy.

I recently decided to learn the Kings and Queens of England in order, just for fun.

melodyangel · 10/01/2012 16:59

Elephants - think you may like this

Gertiegoolash · 10/01/2012 17:00

I am a huge film nerd, and love random movie trivia.
I've always wanted to be a librarian
I could spend hours (and lots of money) in Forbidden Planet.
I love video games.

LaFilleSurLePont · 10/01/2012 17:04

You use the word square.Grin That's a big one.

ElephantsAndMiasmas · 10/01/2012 17:14

Oh Melody :) I love it.

They didn't mention Matilda though, I always feel a bit sorry for her being left out

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/01/2012 17:23

Marking place while I think of something geeky enough to tell you all ...

LaFilleSurLePont · 10/01/2012 17:34

I love pottering around garden centres.

I say 'pottering'.

I love world cinema;particuarly French films.

I'm a science geek, with a particular interest in forensic toxicology.

When on holiday I spend more than half of the time in museums or castles and looking around churches and cathedrals.

I'm a big fan of musicals.

I love studying spiders, and watching wildlife.

I'm a Star Wars geek.

Love heavy metal and classical music.

I hate pubs and clubs and would much rather go to a restaurant, where we can actually have a conversation,or to the theatre.

I get excited about going to coffee shops, and having cake.

I'd rather be home with a cup of tea and a French film or documentary than at a party,or out with friends.I hate parties.

I cannot walk past a deli without going in and checking out their produce, particuarly their range of chutneys and honey.

I want to learn German,French,Latin,Russian,Japanese,Swedish and Ancient Greek.

I'm considering starting a trivia Meetup group.

I read constantly.

I'm a tad obsessed with Buffy and Angel.

I love falconry.

I collect anything to do with 'The Phantom of The Opera'.

I'm 27 but I've been like this for as long as I can remember. I didn't have a wild period as a teenager. I didn't even have a wild moment,but I'm content.

corkythecat · 10/01/2012 17:36

Jigsaws, cross stitch, alphabetical CD's, antiques roadshow, making lists - I love them all.
I'm going to throw bird watching into the mix, Hmm this was my DH's face when I was telling him about the wren I had seen in our back garden yesterday.

TwistedWitch · 10/01/2012 17:53

I knit, with wool I spin myself from sheep I helped to shear. I own thousands of books and a lot of them are sci fi/fantasy. I love a cheesy zombie film and countryfile. Addicted to university challenge and mastermind and sometimes even get the answers right. I am at peace with with my inner (and outer) nerd.

FloydieDoydie · 10/01/2012 17:59

I'm still sad that Fifteen To One has been cancelled Sad

fuzzpig · 10/01/2012 18:03

Not something I do as such, but something that shows my geekitude:

When DD was born my favourite gift was from my college friend - he gave me Donald in Mathemagic Land on DVD, so that I might pass on my love of maths to the next generation :)

The same guy and his GF (also from college) gave us the best wedding present too, far better than vouchers etc - the board game Settlers of Catan! Clearly our love of games is spreading as DSS, 16 at the time, said straight away (in the middle of the posh reception dinner!) "let's play it tonight! You can consummate later" Shock Blush :o

rhondajean · 10/01/2012 18:07

As a child, my great aunt, who had been a teacher, gave me her maths and English books and I used to do them for fun.

I knit, I sew, I crochet, I bake.

I know what the t in James t kirk stands for, and the number on the starship enterprise, though I now get confused as to which one was a, b, c, etc.

sitsyou · 10/01/2012 18:11

I love jigsaws and I love maps

ObiWan · 10/01/2012 18:15

I am beside myself with excitement, because Lego are releasing Lord of the Rings sets this year.

It goes without saying that I already have loads of Star Wars and Harry Potter Lego, and we're starting on Batman now Grin.

waterlego6064 · 10/01/2012 18:17

Oh, I am loving all this geekery!

I'm another who loves jigsaws. I also love crosswords/number puzzles and I'm currently addicted to Kakuro. I love maps and will spend time looking at a map just for the joy of looking at a map. I also read about grammar out of interest rather than necessity which probably isn't entirely normal. And I LOVE sacred choral music, despite not really believing any of the lyrics Grin

I'm a bit anti-jigsaw. I'm told my nursery school teacher commented to my mother that when jigsaws were set out on the tables my face fell, and this has maybe influenced me.

KurriKurri · 10/01/2012 18:23

anti-jigsaw?????? Grin
