I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

Jigsaws, musicals, church (and not even my church) garden centres, pots of tea in garden centres....like to be in my pyjamas by 6 and spend New Year's Eve clock-watching and thinking "when will this end". I also had to fight back the tears morethan once during the 50 Greatest harry Potter moments (despite having seen it about 50 times already and thinking Daniel Radcliffe could easily be substituted with a fish finger such are his thespian talents) It'sthe bit where JK says there will always be a place for me us at Hogwarts.

Square? Most definitely.

Nerd? Nope. Mobile phone is grey nokia thingy that only makes phone calls. Don't tweet, have no interest in anything remotely scientific or technological. (am a luddite really) Find Professor Invisible Breast like a weirdy pervy looking Jehovah's Witness with that manic grin.

I am a book geek. Bloody love having my nose in a book. Or, more aptly, my kindle.

I fancy Simon Pegg more than a little bit. In fact, I only really find geek boys attractive.

Acumenoop · 10/01/2012 09:06

There's no limit, really, to my nerding. I build my own computers; I am in numerous internet fandoms; I knit; I cut my own hair; I code on OSPs; I wear sensible shoes and big pants and vests and coats with hoods; I buy all my clothes second hand; I am thrilled when I can go to bed at half past seven; I have two different scientific calculators and I know how to program them; I sing opera; I do episode transcription for genre shows.

It's unhidable. I look like a Vulcan. (I can't help that - it's an eyebrows and ear thing.) I've gone right through nerd and out the other side. I have a bewildering number of extremely cool friends who are eternally delighted by it (do they all secretly wish they could throw the drainpipes out and join me in dressing entirely like an Edwardian urchin? They can! Live the dream! hahahah)

redrubyshoes · 10/01/2012 09:08

I have seen Rolf Harris in concert three times

I once got very, very angry with DH when we were driving along and there were THREE Eddie Stobart lorries in a layby and he wouldn't stop and turn around so I could get their names. Bastard.

My CD's are in alphabetical order amd my books are by genre and then alphabetical order within the genres.

I keep scrapbooks

I love the gift shops in museums/stately homes/cathedrals/national trust properties etc

I once spent four hours exploring a tin mine and didn't get bored.

baubleybobbityhat · 10/01/2012 09:41

Ok recall. Have got two sizes of ziplock sandwich bags on my shopping list for today and am preparing to transform my life with them!

Am also extremely interested in Animula's recommendation of transportine whatever that is, but it sounds right up my street. Dh is embarrassed by me sometimes when I go in to great detail with someone about their bus and tube journeys around London. And he calls me the cabbie because I know loads of shortcuts when driving.

For London Underground fans I'd recommend Barbara Vine's novel King Soloman's Carpet - the tube features heavily, with lots of interesting facts and stats thrown in.

I love logic puzzles. This is a great website to while away the hours. www.puzzlemix.com
I'd love to do a giant jigsaw but fear DH would laugh at me. He's very cool. Wink

festivalwidow · 10/01/2012 11:56

Total reggae nerd. There is very little that Lee 'Scratch' Perry has ever produced that I don't recognise and I can usually recognise a reggae tune from the first 10 notes of the intro. This only goes up to 1987ish (not keen on Beenie Man et al).
I read books about grammar. In fact, I asked for one for Christmas.
I do go to church; not particularly nerdy in my book, but possibly being able to drone on about the architecture could be considered nerdy...

BarryStar · 10/01/2012 12:16

God, you're all so clever, I don't even understand what half of you are geeky about!

I'm not geeky, but yes, very square. Go to bed as early as I possibly can, always wear a nightie (and, just the other day, in fact, was enquiring if they still sell bed jackets), like nothing better than changing into a nice comfy pair of tracksuit bottoms etc.

And (I have never admitted this to anyone in rl) I have a secret addiction to YouTube videos of present wrapping techniques. Blush.

WillSingForCake · 10/01/2012 12:36

Wow, this thread has cheered me up - now I know I'm not alone in my geeky ways!

I love puzzles, particularly logic ones and cryptic crosswords.

I really enjoy crafts, especially cross-stitch and tapestry. Am currently working on a tapestry Xmas stocking for my DD, and hide it behind the sofa when anyone comes round in case they laugh at me!

My idea of heaven is creating an Excel spreadsheet. A really whizzy one with lots of formulas!

I love putting things in order - I dream of working in a library happily putting the books in alphabetical order.

recall · 10/01/2012 12:41

Lunaticfringe My Dad is a Norbert fan, which has rubbed off a bit, I just like saying it NORBERT DENTRASANGLE mmmmmm............. so lovely.

recall · 10/01/2012 12:42

I have just put a sewing kit in a ziplock (medium) mmmmmmmm...... can see it...........but no mess..........all smoothy plastic.

WillSingForCake · 10/01/2012 16:20

recall I love ziplock bags too - just ordered another 200 of them from Amazon! Nice to know I'm not alone in my devotion :)

OneHandWrapping · 10/01/2012 16:25

I am a massive Lord of the Rings nerd.

I have even written fanfiction, and posted it on t'interwebs.

Bonsoir · 10/01/2012 16:26

I type up DD's homework into separate lists of nouns (with the definite article), infinitive verbs and connectives for spelling, and conjugated verbs. And sometimes I shout at her when she makes mistakes on her practice tests at home Blush

AfternoonNap · 10/01/2012 16:32

Oh wow Bonsoir - are those French or English nouns? And I thought I was bad as we have lists of "être" and "avoir" verbs stuck to the side of the dresser - blooming French grammar Confused

Bonsoir · 10/01/2012 16:34

This is her French homework! The teacher sends home seemingly random lists in no discernible order with nouns (some of which have the definite and some the indefinite article...), infinitives and connectives all mixed up! Drives me mad!

legallyblond · 10/01/2012 16:34

I heart Sean Rafferty.

And I am partial to those reeeally sad cross stitch kits. Blush

I also like/love the Lord of the Rings films (but HATE all other sci fi/fantasy).

I would NEVER admit these things in RL!

legallyblond · 10/01/2012 16:36

Oh and I am a memeber of National Trust AND English Heritage...

Bonsoir · 10/01/2012 16:36

Oh, and the DVDs are in chronological order of whenever the story took place.
