I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

Gosh, I've finally got to the end as I've had no time over the last few days (and won't have MN on my work laptop or I'll not get any work done!). I think I should join.

Both DH and I do so many of these things, although he's not too keen on jigsaws, but I think that's because he hurts his back doing them!

I have probably forgotten more about ecclesiastical embroidery than most people are even remotely interested in. I'm not able to do gold work (yet), but it's something I'd like to do in the next few years. I cross stitch, sew clothes (when I have time), and do wool work - it's NOT tapestry - that's woven. So sorry all of you previously who do tapestry, you don't Smile

I'm also a pedant!

I'm reading The Etymologicon on my Kindle. We both enjoy University Challenge and Only Connect and know that we also can't ring my parents then as they'll be watching too.

I have a large stationery cupboard at home with lots of labelled boxes of things from fountain pen ink, to cables, to 'things that stick'.

I have probably killed the thread Smile

Alistron

There was a book about the Doors' lyrics reviewed in yesterdays papers (either Guardian review or the Times). The author says something haunting in his comments about 'The End' and 'LA Woman' when he says that the lyrics kind of 'retrospectively' predict the Manson events via the 'climate' in LA and the darkness of the times....Think it's 'The Doors' by Greil Marcus.

I love books, card games, word games, politics, planes, language and anything to do with Ancient Greece and Rome.

But my biggest obsession would have to be ... cricket.

Great thread, OP: loving us all getting our geek on!

I do embroidery most nights after lo has gone to bed as it helps me relax.
I've given knitting a go a few times as well.
I wouldnt mind having a go at one of those rug making kits at some point too.

I play D&D and Pathfinder hence username

I have a massive crush on Henry II.

I own pretty much the whole L.M. Montgomery ouevre (sp?).

I fancied Lt. Cmdr. Data when pregnant and am extremely envious of the poster who met Gates McFadden and Michael Dorn.

Geek fact: Gates McFadden was the choreographer for many of the dances in Labyrinth.

DH is a massive music nerd - lots of people are I know - but he really is. Everything in alphabetical order, six versions of the same song, etc. I, myself, have always loved baking, gardening and reading. Not unusual in my 40s but I loved these things in my early 20s too Blush. I also found education in my early 20s so after 5 years or so clubbing, spent Saturday nights in revising and writing essays alongside knitting, baking and gardening. I think in my head I've always been old Grin

But which version of D&D, mumwithdice? Grin Original? AD&D? 3/3.5/4? I'm more of a roll and keep fan myself, but I do love a good dungeon bash now and then!

I have achieved ultimate nerd-domSmile
On a thread about bizarre knowledge, I was accused of setting up sock puppets as "nobody knows that much". What's more, my alleged puppet is my RL friendGrin. I called her "sooty" when I saw her the next day.

I know this thread has been inactive for months but this is, without doubt, one of my favorite threads on MN ever. Just reading it makes me feel happy.

I offer up that I am quite obsessed - obsessed I tell you - with Desert Island Discs. So soothing! Does that count as geeky?

I yearn for the return of the liberty bodice I wore as a child. A bit like a vest but not a vest IYKWIM.

I like peace and quiet in a way I couldn't tolerate 20 years ago but then.....I am OLD!!
