I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

This is why I am so weird to my family! This explains it all!

"I love Firefly, Star Wars and Miyazaki."

You're confusing nerd with geek. Nothing nerdy about Miyazaki Grin

I love this thread.

I am no way as geeky/nerdy/neeky as many here but geeky is cool and should be bigged up.

I like researching things and filing. Not über-geeky: just quietly, happily so.

Didn't mean to pick on the one post btw - there's a world of difference between being a Star Wars/Thundercats/Ghibli fan, and liking jigsaws and countryfile.

I have a thing for those plastic zip lock bags that you put food in. I have the two different sizes and I always suggest ways in which my friends can use them. They roll their eyes now and go " Oh don't start about those fucking bags "

(very good for storing things like phone chargers in the tat drawer so they don't get tangled up)

(and little playmobil parts)

(and re chargable batteries - the beauty is that you can see your clutter..............sorry)

LeQueen Did you make it through The Silmarillion? I've tried, several times, and sadly failed :(

and on a hot day, put a flannel in one and a little water, put it in the kid's bag, can freshen up whilst out if they eat something sticky like ice cream or an orange.

Maybe i'm just resisting jigsaws, countryfile etc for fear of turning into my parents. Wink

tethersend - there are some lovely websites/blogs about local history, eg. transpontine - have you come across any of those? transpontine is SE London, are there any for E. London?

I've read the Silmarillion twice, Jareth. Compared to a lot of my friends, this does not register on the nerd-o-meter. I have one friend whose PhD thesis was on elvish.

you could keep jigsaw pieces in them

She used to talk to me in elvish sometimes, actually.

Cryptic crosswords for me. Love them, and it gave me enormous pleasure that I could finish them in half the time of ExP who considers himself something of a wordsmith. I think the majority of the pleasure came from the fact that it pissed him off Grin

I love to read a dictionary/an atlas/reference book...

Physics was my favourite subject at school. Still is something I love.

Can do a Rubik's Cube in under 90 seconds.

I have masses of books on local history, and loads on The Sex Pistols Grin

Am a real completist, both in stuff and knowledge. So, i will have loads of books on the same subject, just to read from a different perspective or more details etc.

I have well over 600 DVDs, arranged by genre and sub-genre. Have to watch commentaries and extras. Blush Love Buffy, Angel, Firefly and Dollhouse - Joss is a genius! Also comic-book films, and big Kevin Smith fan too.

Love history and often get lost in internet research for hours and hours. DP gets narked at me spaffing on when he asked me a simple question and I give him a lecture.

Love baking, although that is quite fashionable at the moment Hmm

Crafting including card making, stamping, jewellery, book making (making covers and binding - not taking bets on horsies!)

Am really good at pub quizzes due to my capacity to remember random shit interesting and useful facts

I highlight my telly watching preferences for the week in my tv magazine (and t always has to be a certain magazine) Blush

But I have many (visible) tattoos and piercings, ride a motorbike and love heavy metal and go to festivals. Smile

Littleprincess - I am obsessed with binding and attachment theory after studying it and bored my poor poor DB with it when my nephew was about half a day old

JayVazzle I love attachment theory. It should be taught at ante-natal classes. lol. DO NOT LET YOUR BABY CRY IT OUT!

Ahem....rant over!
