I love a nice big jigsaw, me. Preferably something like a thatched cottage surrounded by flowers.

I am too embarrassed to do them at home because my 80 year old mother and inlaws who are in their 70s share my enthusiasm and I just think if any of my uber-cool London creative/media-type mates came calling and saw a bugger like that on my dining table they would think I was a very sad case and immediately drop me.

Listening to Radio 4 is normal surely and not at all nerdy. I love Horizon, Private Eye, RI Lectures, Star Trek, Dr Who, QI. I cannot stand the usual Saturday night TV (X-factor and so on).

racingheart · 09/01/2012 22:48

I do the easy crossword every day, cos cryptic is too much like hard work. And love country and western music.

SarahStratton · 09/01/2012 22:48

I can do linear equations. And I love the documentary channels. Oh and I can do a Rubiks cube.

racingheart · 09/01/2012 22:49

Oh yes birdsofshore birdwatching too.

BettyDrapersWardrobeElf · 09/01/2012 22:49

I am very lucky in that my DH is also a massive geek - our best holidays have been spent sitting outside cages in the sun playing endless games of cards (and obviously keeping score). I have notebooks with pages of rummy scores from our honeymoon!

We also sing in the car (have been doing this since way before we had children) and it's often hymns despite the fact that DH is an atheist - but loves a good hymn!

We often do the guardian quick crossword online together and we do all the online only connect walls.

I think if I met me, we wouldn't be friends.

stressheaderic · 09/01/2012 23:00

I am completely non geeky in most aspects of my life. Quite into fashion, do very mainstream things etc.

However, I love looking at pictures of tall or interesting buildings and bridges on the Internet. I love a good tower block and I'm fascinated with their construction and demolition.
I can't tell anyone about this.

fuzzpig · 09/01/2012 23:02

A book of squared paper (a la School maths book) or a pattern colouring booj and colouring pens is my idea of heaven, ooh or a compass/ruler so I can make my own

I just watched It's a wonderful life and sobbed my heart out at the end

I get a bit peeved with people saying I must love regular sudoku because I am good at maths Hmm when maths is irrelevant and I find sudoku a bit dull. But give me a hanjie/mosaic/hitori/randommadeupname puzzle and I'm happy.

I switched to an open degree instead of maths because I missed reading compulsory texts and writing essays

I love family guy, American dad and Futurama and quote them far too much. Same with Friends.

fuzzpig · 09/01/2012 23:06

I once ran downstairs naked giddy with excitement because DH noticed a hedgehog in front of our house.

Seeing finches/tits/wagtails makes me inexplicably happy and I strive to one day take a decent photo of one.

droves · 09/01/2012 23:08

TalcAndTurnips · 09/01/2012 23:21

stressheaderic - do you enjoy a nice tower crane? I do.

NoOnesGoingToEatYourEyes · 09/01/2012 23:22

I asked for a Dymo Label Maker for Christmas, because making labels is fun.

I have a notebook that is used solely for recording our scores at Scrabble in. I pretend that it's just easier to keep some paper with the game, but it's really because I want a record of all the scores. DH used to win more than I did but since I bought 'him' Scrabble Trickster for Christmas I have been kicking his ass.

I have a puzzle book hidden under the bed, so I can do a couple of puzzles before I read a bit of my book and then go to sleep.

I have a secret love of brass bands, military bands especially, and cannot be moved from one if we discover one playing somewhere.

My first crush was on the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz. I still have a t-shirt with his picture on it and the words "Heartless...but quite a lover" written underneath him.

MissMogwi · 09/01/2012 23:23

I was like this Grin today as I am about to start a 5000 word project on Austen. My fellow young and cool students were choosing obscure authors and themes.

Not me. I'm getting my geek on.

I am interested in virtually everything and can quite happily spend hours tracking down a random piece of information.

I have watched every episode of Babylon 5, Deep Space 9, Voyager and Buffy. Several times.

I love fantasy and sci-fi novels.

I am fascinated by words, especially ones that have fallen out of common parlance (like parlance for example).

I am a huge fan of zombie novels and post-apocalyptic and like nothing better than discussing a good end of the world scenario and possible survival methods. Last week I pointed out a location in town which is on a roundabout with Sainsburys on one corner, a medical centre on another and a petrol station on a third-with a big fuck off barn to hide in. DH and I had a fun hour discussing hiding vs looting and running to the hills.

I love books, unashamedly often more than my DH and I sometimes dream of a house by the sea, all by myself, with a massive fuck off library and a really comfortable sofa. Plus someone to cook me meals...and wash me....and exercise my wasted limbs.

Matronalia · 09/01/2012 23:31

Oh and I married a physicist so we cover history nerd and science geek beautifully.

Our children have NO chance.

openyerlugholes · 09/01/2012 23:32

I am so happy! I feel like I finally belong!

And yes, despite denying it earlier, I do certainly have many, many geek characteristics. And am proud to do so.

Wow! Embracing my geekdom.

My dd4 is definitely a geek. She is fab. As is dd2. i suddenly understand why I relate so well to them. Truly a lightbulb moment.

JollySergeantJackrum · 09/01/2012 23:33

I also still have braces.

I'm studying maths at the Open University. In my final year at school I did a high level maths and mechanics course as my 'fun subject'.

I have read Pratchett's Discworld novels at least twice a year since I left school. (Not this year - baby stole my free time)

I love Firefly, Star Wars and Miyazaki.

I correct spelling. I can also spell and define words that I have only read once, often many years ago.

I built my own computer (some years ago now) and taught myself to touch type.

I used to use IRC and I was briefly among the top 1000 Counterstrike players in the world.

I'm not so geeky anymore though as I have no time.

Sookeh · 09/01/2012 23:33

I play World of Warcraft Blush
Love my Xbox more than I love DHGrin
Know all the words to various Star Trek Next Generation episodes.

Want to be a Historian

Have a replica Thundercats sword.

openyerlugholes · 09/01/2012 23:34

Books. My house is drowning in them. What a way to die!

JarethTheGoblinKing · 09/01/2012 23:35

This thread reminds me of a self-catering week in Devon when I was a child. The power had gone off and there was nothing but jigsaws, board games and strange books.
