I think you should call kitty Dynamite, Dynah for short. Smile

DH suggests Splat. (we won't listen to him though eh?) DNephew says Splodge.

Pinot · 18/04/2011 12:19

Mum has disappeared...I guess out of a window as the doors are shut.

Is that OK?

MigratingCoconuts · 18/04/2011 12:34

yes, that's normal. We all need to get away at times!

Northernlurker · 18/04/2011 12:37

Can you make sure she can easily get back in? I hope she's ok - sounds like she's a bit clueless tbh.

MigratingCoconuts · 18/04/2011 12:40

The kittens look relatively oldish, so she has done ok so far. I do think it is normal to kick out a runt of a litter.

Nortehrn is right though, make sure she can get back in! Don't shut any windows...

SummerRain · 18/04/2011 13:33

totally normal, she'll be back in a while. They purposefully don't stay with them 24/7 to stop them feeding constantly, even when i've had nursing queens in the house they'll wander off and have a snooze where the kittens can't reach them a couple of times a day.

That kitten is adorable.... i'd forgotton how tiny they are at that age

I'm getting all Envy now Grin Been ages since I had a tiny fluffball purring in my ear

TheMonster · 18/04/2011 16:58

What a cute kitten!
How about Eeyore for a name? Grin

AmazingDisgrace · 18/04/2011 17:02

That kitten is making me feel broody. I am not a cat honest Confused

foxinthewoods · 18/04/2011 17:05

Did mum return?

ednurse · 18/04/2011 17:19

Also wondering if the mum has returned?

FruitShootsChocolateThieves · 18/04/2011 17:21

I hand reared 3 kittens, it was very rewarding but really hard work. i used to clean them with a toothbrush. They all made it to six weeks old when they were rehomed. they were what converted my dh. He didn't like cats and is a bit allergic but i used to come home from work to find him sitting in the spare room with them climbing all over him!
when my cat had kittens she moved them into the cupboard under the sink with the casserole dishes after 4 days! We had a mad half hour where she was moving them as quickly as i was putting them back! she must have thought she had hundreds of kittens! They were already 'hissing' at the dogs when they were only a few hours old!
My handreared kittens were called Badger, Bertie and Lucy!

OK chaps, what an afternoon.

Mum hasn't come back. She has been gone since 12. I checked on the kits and one is very poorly with a mangled back left leg - I'm not sure if Mum hasn't had a bite as theres a yucky area in the foot. The rest of the leg looks deformed so I guess a birth deformity. The other kitten was filthier than the first (poorly) one - poo all over it, right up to its head.

Quite unreal.

Lovely chaps at CP gave me great advice and I've taken them in here, bathed the foul mess off and fed them with the bottle from their original rejected kit. The foot has been cleaned in (cooled) boiled salted water and some TCP and a visit to the vets tomorrow is booked.

CP are keen for me to carry on - and I'm happy to, feel like I've invested so much in the little family now - and advise as long as no infection, main priority is to keep them feeding.

Have set up weight charts for them all and wee/poo charts.

Good job I'm a SAHM!!

TheMonster · 18/04/2011 17:49

Yes, you're a SAHM to three kittens Grin

Jellykat · 18/04/2011 17:50

Aaaaah she's a gorgeous kitty..

This is the first time in my 47 years i am without a cat.. As my wise old gentleman Cat got run over, he didn't stand a chance, bastard boy racer on a quiet country lane. Sad

I couldn't bear it to happen again, so i can't get another.. but i will no doubt move house one day - i have ambitions to be 'the mad old cat lady', and have lots !

My mum had a girl kitten rescued from some woods..Her name was 'Widget' (because she was always quite small), how about that for a name?

Has the mum returned safely OP?

LaWeasel · 18/04/2011 17:51

Oh no, poor kittens. I guess mum was very young. Hope she comes back so you can get her spayed at least though or she might be turning up with kittens again!

Pinot · 18/04/2011 17:51

xposts jellykat :)

LaWeasel · 18/04/2011 17:51

You sound like you're doing a great job BTW - very impressed!

FruitShootsChocolateThieves · 18/04/2011 17:51

sometime inexperienced cats get a bit overzealous with the cleaning up of the afterbirth etc, she may have accidently chewed the kitten soon after birth.

Good Luck with your kittens, the mum may still return yet.

Jellykat · 18/04/2011 17:52

Sorry cross posted
You're doing a grand job there Pinot.

Northernlurker · 18/04/2011 17:52

Oh dear - I think she would have come back by now if she was coming wouldn't she? I don't like the sound of the little one's foot Sad I guess all you can do is keep going as you are doing. You sound very competent!

Pinot · 18/04/2011 17:53

laweasel I'm worried about that too. She was very small, no more than 5/6 months (can they even have babies so young?) and I'm worried she's the local sexbomb and is going to keep dropping her kittens at my door.

The rudeness.

I hope she's off somewhere taking care of herself, she was minging when she walked away - matted everywhere (not just bum region) and just . She probably hasn't been raised so doesn't know how to raise her own. Sad.

Thanks all, what lovely things to say.

DH just came home and said well at least you're not going to be broody for dc4 for a while Grin

I do like nurturing!

Northernlurker · 18/04/2011 17:55

Our cat was about 10 months when we got her from CP and had had kittens already. It's not good for them to have them so young but they do.

expatinscotland · 18/04/2011 18:02

Aw, abandoned kittens!
