A new thread!
Especially for throckenholt

I was hoping the original one would go to 1000, but it was gettign a but annoying scrolling all the way done, so come over here instead.

How is everyone coping with the school holidays?

I'm fed up with the rubbish weather, as we're stuck in the house too much. I daren't take them to soft play as it packed during the hols and then I can't watch all four of them. Plus it costs a fortune.
Mine are changing so much. Rav is becoming a right wuss, scared of new places. I suppose it shows awareness, but it is annoying when I've driven miles for a nice day out and he just wants to sit and whine because he is too scared to go on anything! Shay is developing his houdini skills, and now has a tendancy to bolt out of parks so I have to watch him like a hawk. I must dig out the reins before we go on holiday.

Thank you mars for lemon cake recipie, and FG im sure with all that lemon juice its at least one portion of fruit....

Hello Charleymouse

earlysbird · 22/11/2006 20:43

fg I reckon it only counts as a portion if you eat the whole cake

harrogatemum · 22/11/2006 21:14

lg&t - dont tempt me - I may take you up on it - soooo uncomfortable now!

FG - loving your idea of a map with all our locations on it, you should suggest it to MNHQ! It would help as I only just found out that earlysbird is only an hour away from me, I just thought everyone was down south (bar you of course in your wee Scottish castle - hit me if that was too stereotypical! I am infact half Scottish myself - my Dad is from Edinburgh)

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2006 22:11

lmao earlysbird , I will if you will .

HM I love that you think I live in a wee Scottish castle. I'm aiming for that, really I am, its just I'm quite a townie at heart. Your dad sounds like such a lovely dad . Are you due on Friday? How about I send you a MacSweens haggis (I could eat one every week)thats bound to get things moving!

Nite all xx.

leogaela · 23/11/2006 08:21

Hi everyone and welcome to Charleymouse !
i'm a bit lost on this thread at the moment so just popping into say hello, let you know I am doing fine. Actually feeling better and have more energy than I have the whole pregnancy so far - I hope it lasts!
Have a hospital appointment today so I'll drop in later again to confirm to you all that the twins are doing fantastically well, as I know they are !

HM - hope you are doing well!

Just a quick question, when you were pregnant with twins could you all tell from the movements you were feeling that there was more than one baby in there? At the moment I don't feel any more movement than I did with ds. I guess its just the position of one of the twins but I was kind of looking forward to feeling 4 feet kicking on my belly.

throckenholt · 23/11/2006 09:03

I could tell which was which from the side - but never erally felt both move at the same time that I remember. Oddly - I could not feel much on one side - I would often watch on the fortnightly scans and see them leaping around but hardly feel anything - especially on my right (that is the side my little one was on - but actually he was usually moving more on the scans).

triplets · 23/11/2006 09:07

I`d love a haggis Frumpy, Burns night is always celebrated here, I even have a bronze bust of Mr Burns himself!

harrogatemum · 23/11/2006 09:45

Leo - I had no idea which was which at any stage - but it was so squashed in there that I would often see a foot or a hand moving across the surface of my tummy - but could have never said "oh that was Twin 1 or that was Twin 2" or anything. Wouldnt have had a clue. Whenever I had scans one of the twins was often lying on top of the other one and my Mum often says "oh that must have been DT2" but I mean, how on earth do you know??? Impossible I think!

FG - I would lurvvvve a haggis, yum. Yes I am due tomorrow. No, I am feeling nothing, sob.

Kelly1978 · 23/11/2006 10:04

fg, I've jsut dropped the boys off at the cm, and she is fully booked on Monday and not with my kids!! SO ss have messed up again and so I don't even have childcare for MOnday. Secretly I am so that I have a legitimate excuse but will be sending a long ranty email later, because I have jumped hoops for them and they've not managed to get anything done for me. Kelly is on the rampage

leogaela, I knew it was twins from the first movements, because I would feel movements on opposite sides of my tummy when I knew the baby was only a few inches big. When they got bigger, the twin on the left used to get ratty if I laid on his side and kick like mad and wake his brother up! When things got really tight I could feel hands and feet, and I could really tell where they were laying. It was def a lot different to singles.

welcome charleymouse, congrats on the pregnancy.

Hi Marslady, yes it is because it is twins, they haven't refused as such just said it is not advisable as too many potential problems. My MW is the same one who delivered DD at home and was really supportive of a home birth. I am booked in as a case study for her student as well so they are both disappointed. She has said she will still treat me as a home birth and will accompany me into hospital to ensure I have as straightforward a birth as possible with as little intervention as possible. She told me the consultant would want me to have an epidural when I get to hospital so she would support me in my decision not to for as long as I want to. DH has said even though he knows my birth plan inside out if a Dr said to him "Mr CM your wife must have an xyz" he would just buckle and go "oh yeah supreme being Dr I bow to your superior knowledge" whereas my MW has said she will tell the consultants whatever I want her to.

Hi FG, thank you for the offer of a seat, I think I will just put my feet up (whilst I still can) and LGT do not worry although I do hold you fully responsible for my situation I am actually quite pleased and excited by the prospect. Cheers Leogaela I think I have felt flutterings but keep thinking it is too early so must be wind . Cheers Kelly, you go strop girl.

If anyone can advise whether twins can be a straightforward birth it would be much appreciated as my Mum has jut got off the phone after telling me she has been washing multiple birth programmes on Sky and they nearly all have to have Caesareans- thanks Mum.

harrogatemum · 23/11/2006 12:07

Charley - my twins were born naturally as they were both head down. I was recommended an epidural as well (and wanted one anyway to be honest), this was due to the fact that once the first twin has been born, the second one can turn as it suddenly has a lot of space to move around in and this can then lead to either a breech birth or having to have the second twin by Caesarean.

But my hospital were very in favour of me having them naturally, although it was like a party in the delivery room, me, DH, two midwives, a paediatrician, a doctor and a senior house officer!

earlysbird · 23/11/2006 12:27

I don't know about my twin birth being straightforward but it wasn't a CS! Mine were top to toe, DT1 head down, ended up having forceps to help her out then DT2 was pulled out by her feet but both were ok...like HM there were loads of people in the delivery room and I had an epidural before it all got too complicated just in case. I don't know about movement as I only have the DTs so nothing to compare it to, which I think is a good thing

frumpygrumpy · 23/11/2006 14:08

OOOh it gets busy in here! Love it. I'll slash on the kettle and get out the teacakes.....

Leo, once I was well into my pg I could sort of tell who was moving. DT1 was always head down and bagging the most space while DT2 spent a while lying across my tummy up near my boobs! I couldn't make out hands/feet but I knew who was moving. Later DT2 slipped down one side (but feet down) and I knew the big bump to one side was his head (that was weird!). I didn't have a huge bump so it was really packed in there and I remember one night in particular when they both must have moved at the same time and I thought my time was up! It was the strangest feeling and my bump went out in all directions. Not to scare you though, it was all lovely and not sore.

Charleymouse I had my DTs by the bottom door (well, the front bottom door ). I had an epidural (in case of difficulties I'd be ready for anything) but I had it late on so had most of my labour moving about wherever I wanted (a 3" radius round the bed ). It was a heavenly birth. I had just two midwives who delivered DT1 and then a lady doctor popped in to keep an eye on DT2 who was breech. He arrived 17 minutes later. Couple of tiny stitches (had a gaping crevice with DD1 , after a badly managed birth) and I almost enjoyed it!!!! I said almost.

The best thing was that I was told not to start pushing until the team had assembled outside the door! There was a gaggle of people right outside drinking tea and passing biscuits around while they waited to see if I needed whipped away or any other help. I thought that was very respectful and made me laugh.

I don't really do short posts .

frumpygrumpy · 23/11/2006 14:13

Triplets hi!! Did you see the thread a few under this one....about triplets and looking for advice/alcohol....lemesee if I can link...

Aha, you've been .

Kelly1978 · 23/11/2006 14:18

aaargh! I'm having to do multiple performances of my strop as each health professional calls me to share their reports and then say 'see you monday'. Then they get 'errr, no becos I'm not going....strop....rant....moan!' So far the school nurse, the HV and my social worker have heard it, I think I'm gonna stop answering my phone before it explodes.

...and breathe!!

Hello all

Welcome Charleymouse - I'm a serial lurker, usually because it takes me so long to catch up with everyone's posts that I don't have time to reply! But it's great here and everyone's very friendly, if at times a little TOO honest about the joys of having twins.

Having said that, time to look away as I'm about to have a moan!

My DTs seem to think I have nothing better to do that carry them about all day - both of them at the same time! My back is killing me and I'm worried I'm going to drop them - not good when they get hysterical if I leave one of them upstairs on their own. Not that I can't handle a bit of crying (have had to get used to it!), but it just sets the tone for the rest of the afternoon if one of them has a paddy straight after waking up. It's driving me MAD!!!

And we've had the news on FIL - it's cancer, in the stomach, pancreas and liver and possibly the spine as well . Doesn't sound like there's much they can do except make him comfortable.

Anyway, sorry for the moan, but thanks for listening. Have to try and put a happy face on for DD1 as we're going to a party (at a soft-play place of all places - I hate them grrrr).

leogaela · 23/11/2006 16:00

The babies are doing wonderfully well ! Both are the same size and both on the 50% on the growth chart for the gestational age. The reason that I can only feel them on one side is because they are both lying transverse with heads on teh same side. Now I know that hopefully I can find 4 feet before they move again! - thanks for all your replies about hte movement! Got ot go and have a blood test next week because of glucose in my pee though (must stop eating all that chocolate!)!

Charleymouse, I had also heard about the epidural thing and asked my consultant about it today, she said that its up to me if I have an epidural, no requirement to have it just in case i have to be rushed of for a cs.
50% of twins are born by caesarian but I really believe that it is more often because the hospitals just don't know how to deal with a normal twin birth.

Tracey, so sorry about your FIL .

Kelly, sounds as if you deserve to have a good rant.

MarsLady · 23/11/2006 16:37

TracyKB I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. You are all in my prayers.

Now I'm going off to do some research about twin births. I'm a little shocked that epidurals are given as standard. I'm off to my doula site to see if it has to be that way. The complications seem to start from intervention. I agree that hospitals don't know how to deal with twin births any more. Shocking isn't it?

Anyhoo........... before I begin to rant away on my wee soapbox I shall pop off and see what I can see.

Good to see you posting tracykb.

MarsLady · 23/11/2006 16:55

Have asked the question and will post the responses when I get some.

FG... of course it's FRUIT! And yes it only counts as a portion if you eat the whole cake

largeginandtonic · 23/11/2006 17:16

Poor you tracykb, your Dh must be beside himself. I hope they manage to make your FIL as comfortable as possible.

Kelly i dont know how you keep your cool. Just type the standard response and get one of the kids to read it out to whoever phones next...

Charleymouse my dt's were always one on the left on on the right so i knew who was moving. One always woke the other up too, they still do it now! I had a section but they came at 29 weeks, dt1's waters went and he went transverse with his little arm out, luckily i was in hospital being monitored. I wanted a natural delivery with no epidural and the hospital did fuss a bit but i stood my ground. Obviously it wasnt to be in the end, but at the end of the day they are healthy and that's what matters.

Where is HM then, been a bit quiet...

harrogatemum · 23/11/2006 17:29

am here I'm afraid.......just been to Asda and spent a load of money on wine! Stocking up for after the birth!

Pins and needles are back across the top of the bump but thats it - nothing else. Due date tomorrow, would be funny if babe was born on its due date - not many are are they?

Tracykb - so sorry to hear about your FIL, hope you and your family are all doing ok. Kelly - wish I had words of advice, thinking of you!

frumpygrumpy · 23/11/2006 18:36

Great news Leo!

Tracykb, so sorry to hear that about your FIL. Its shocking when you discover someone you care about has something so serious and even worse when you feel the clock ticking. I wish you all the very best with it, it is not an easy journey watching someone you love fade.

One of the mums from my DDs school (our DDs are friends) is nursing a very sick husband atm. He also has cancer, started as an inoperable brain tumour and has travelled to his spine. Each day he seems terribly worse and, for her (like you I imagine), the time to get used to the idea of him leaving is far, far too short. We are all meeting up tomorrow for the P2 christmas play and I will have to keep it together even though inside I hurt for them . I feel for you all and wish you the very best xxx.

My DT2 is simply miserable, I don't really know what is wrong. I posted a thread under chat for advice

Kelly1978 · 23/11/2006 19:13

Hope the party didn't go too badly tracekb, and I'm very sorry to hear about your FIL.

Glad to hear the good news leogaela!

Thans for the support everyone.
I'm off to playg tomo, picking up a twin mum I met on here, so that should take my mind off things for a bit. Then my lovely HV is coming round in the afternoon to listen to a nice rant.
