A new thread!
Especially for throckenholt

I was hoping the original one would go to 1000, but it was gettign a but annoying scrolling all the way done, so come over here instead.

How is everyone coping with the school holidays?

I'm fed up with the rubbish weather, as we're stuck in the house too much. I daren't take them to soft play as it packed during the hols and then I can't watch all four of them. Plus it costs a fortune.
Mine are changing so much. Rav is becoming a right wuss, scared of new places. I suppose it shows awareness, but it is annoying when I've driven miles for a nice day out and he just wants to sit and whine because he is too scared to go on anything! Shay is developing his houdini skills, and now has a tendancy to bolt out of parks so I have to watch him like a hawk. I must dig out the reins before we go on holiday.

Dance! C'mon!

piximon · 21/11/2006 18:17

I had to go for growth scan today 33+wks.
Mum has been poorly so wasn't surprised when her partner turned up to babysit alone, was surprised however to hear her breathing had become so bad she was in casulty. So while I was upstairs being scanned mum was downstairs on a nebuliser. Thankfully three doses left her able to talk (and breathe) again and they have let her home armed with a bag of pills and strict instructions to dial 999 next time.

As for the growth scan, well T2 is now fine but T1 was down on growth (cord and heartbeat readings were good they can stay inside for now) but have to be rescanned in 2 weeks. Consultant will definately be wanting them out before his xmas hols.

Mars -Thank you so much for the LD cake. Your talents are clearly wasted on family/study/salsa/doulaing etc You should be chained to the cooker mass producing LDC to satisfy our family cravings esp since I've forgotten how to turn cooker on.

MarsLady · 21/11/2006 18:20

You're welcome my angel. Least I could do after your man crossed town to sort out my PC.

Good news on the DTs. Don't forget to let me know the instant anything happens so that I can get there.

Wishing your mum better!

Kelly1978 · 21/11/2006 18:20

hi pixiomo nice to ehar things are stillt ickign along and glad to hear the babies are doing ok. Sorry to hear about your mum though, hope she is better soon.

Your post reminded me, I had my first bash at lemon drizzle! I made them into muffins and made the icing thicker so they had white icing on and little sugared lemons on top. They were rather scrummy, we've managed to demolish 14 over the weekend! I'm thinking of adapting the recipe for other muffins but lacking inspiration...

can I join in the oops upside your head song please, it may assist me on my mammoth journey towards anything that remotely resembles labour.......

I dont think I did say if it was pink or blue did I? Well there can be no more than another two weeks to wait to find out! A friend of mine had a baby today - her first and she was due on the 19th - I kept telling her I would be first as this is not my first pregnancy and it was her first. Grrrrrrrr.

largeginandtonic · 21/11/2006 19:29

Evening all. ive made choc cup cakes my the millions today. The dts have a xmas fair on friday so bake today and decorate thursday, i have a scan tomorrow so cant do it then. I always feel awful for them at this kind of thing, i can never help out like most other mum's, so i always bake like a demon to make up for it.

Hope the curry does the trick HM, and your dh is feeling well enough to rub your back and help you later as you (obviously) go in to labour....

Have you posted your lemon drizzle cake recipie mars? I would love it please, if you dont mind.

Kelly my dt's used to chuck shoes and blankets out of their buggy, id forgotten till you posted. It drove me mad, i lost a very nice and quite new clarks shoe in town once Funny how we forget, and then are silly enough to do it again....

The scan tomorrow is the only one you get if you live in Portsmouth, at 16 weeks. Its not even a fetal anomoly scan and they dont offer the nuchal fold. Terrible really, but its a postcode lottery!

frumpygrumpy · 21/11/2006 21:28

Kelly, messy, hard work but great! Were you glad to be amongst real people and talk about things other than what ss want to talk about?

HM, WOW about your fil's cooking! What can I say, HD was sick but, hey, FIL cooked, its a tough one......

Pixi, so sorry to hear about your mum. Your head must be spinning a bit. I always want to take over and make everything good in situations like that but its very hard when you have your own little babes to grow. Take it as easy as you can.

Largegin, you are baking, lots of mums do nothing at all, you are doing heaps. How's your FIL?

Mars, I'm all dressed up. Wana take me dancing?

p.s. none of my babies are sleeping well none of them. DT1 coughs all night til she wakes, DT2 is unusually waking (although his pox spots are giving him discomfort as they dry and crust (there are heaps and heaps in clumps) and DD has her nightly wee and "mum, please can you tuck me in" so.......I'll need to be out a loooong time .

MarsLady · 21/11/2006 23:55

You lost me at ScissorSisters FG. lol

LDC (be warned it's a biggie)

12oz s/r flour
9 oz sugar
9 oz butter/marg
4 eggs
3 tsp baking powder
6 tbsp milk
rind of 2 lemons

Whizz all up together. Pop in large roasting tin (or large cake square). Put in oven 180 degrees for about 30-40 mins.

When cake comes out of oven, prick holes in it.

Squeeze juice from the 2 lemons. Heat in microwave for about 20secs. Spoon 3 or 4 tbsp over cake.

Add icing sugar to rest of lemon juice according to taste.

Voila!

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2006 11:15

I'm not here. You can't see me. I'm doing Christmas shopping online and can't be plucked away. Not one bit.

(I seem to have a large pot of tea beside me and some very loud music, dono where that came from).

p.s. I have managed to get a nursery space for both DTs today so I can do christmas. I have until 2.30pm to shop for everyone and write all my cards .

p.p.s. and I feel horribly guilty. DT2 keeps crying and saying "sore tummy mummy", "sore back mummy" as his spots are big, crusty and catch on his clothes.

FOCUS FRUMPY FOCUS

harrogatemum · 22/11/2006 12:38

FG - which sites are you buying from - I received my last parcel of internet shopping today, just got a few bits and pieces from town to get now and will be sorted (oh, wait, I have to wrap up a PRESENT MOUNTAIN first). I have done Letterbox, Amazon and Jo Malone online this year and all were fab with delivery.

Been to midwife today - she was a bit unsure whether the head was still down first (aaagghhh) but then found it (doesnt fill me with huge confidence). She packed me off and now my next appt is one week overdue next Thursday. please everyone send positive vibes that I wont have to go to that appointment as i will be at home snuggling my new baby by then.....

Right - off to get some cheese and biscs for lunch. YUm, not long until I can include Brie and Bleu d'Auvergne on the plate...........

Kelly1978 · 22/11/2006 13:25

You are all so organised

All I have got so far is a board game each, a car for dt1 and I bought a dolls house for dd, but in 3 weeks I've only managed to assmeble the three flights of stairs - I need to get my arse in gear!

fg, it was really nice, I'm so sick of ss atm, I really do need a break from them. I've told them if they want to see the kids they can visit at school, and I don;t think I am going to the conference on MOnday. After all the work we've put in and how far we've come I don't think I can sit there for two hours listening to why they think they should still be on the register.

My two have been a nightmare today, shay looks like a beetroot so I'm guessing it's teeth again. They screamed all the way around tescos. Oh well at least they are off to the cm tomo and I'm visitng a mum whose kids have chicken pox!

Morning Ladies
Well after finding this thread over the weekend it has taken me three days to read it through (not lurking, honest, just getting aquainted but sat in naughty corner whilst doing so just in case.)

I am 13 weeks exactly today and found out a week ago I am expecting twins due sometime next May. I have a DD who will be 2 next week.
In between panicking about having to get a new car (for 3 baby seats), the new house that is being built which is smaller than our current one but in a better location, the thought of having to give up my plans for a home birth and the logistics of BF 3 (or weaning DD1) I am positively excited by the whole idea. Especially after reading some of your lovely posts (obviously selective reading as am not allowing any negative thoughts to cross my mind ).

I promise not to lurk but have trouble keeping up on here, the due May 07 thread goes crazy and I can hardly keep up there. As I said earlier it has taken me 3 days to catch up with you guys, I don't think I even dare contemplate the previous post you had going.

Anyway much respect to those of you with twins already as I think I may ned a bit of help over the next few months (years!)

Hope you don't mind me crashing.

earlysbird · 22/11/2006 14:13

Afternoon everyone, haven't been posting much lately, trying to get my head round going back to work 3 days a week after Xmas and all that involves... a recent development so still not quite sunk in yet! Also DTs both have stinking colds and chesty coughs and are whinging for Britain, but luckily still sleeping well at night dammit, I've probably jinxed that now by sharing it...also trying to get ready for DTs 3rd birthday in 3 weeks as well as Xmas, all online so far too, really can't face the shops with DTs in tow god know what I'd come back with

Welcome Charleymouse and congratulations on expecting twins! I'm new to the thread and feel like a bit of an imposter but checking in now and then helps keep me a little bit sane. Where do you live?

Must go, DTs are wrapped in duvets watching Maisy's Christmas, feel I should pay them a bit of attention at some point...

harrogatemum · 22/11/2006 14:22

hello and welcome Charleymouse! Congrats on finding out you are expecting twins - you are one of the select few now!

Whereabouts in the country are you and will you have help around when they arrive? Tell me to get lost if too many questions!!?? We can all help with any questions you have, not saying we will have the right answers but we tend to have a good laugh whilst trying!

throckenholt · 22/11/2006 14:27

welcome Charleymouse - I can't keep track here either (everyone posts while I am asleep in bed it seems ). Just dive in and post when you feel like it - someone usually potters along sometime soon .

MarsLady · 22/11/2006 14:49

Welcome Charleymouse... there are no strangers or crashers on this thread. We're the multiples family lol! Congratulations on your pregnancy. May! Fantastic! Ask away and we'll answer what we can and we promise not to say the phrase that you must now or will soon hear over and over again... are you mad? Did you know you were having twins? (Um yeah... woke up and thought ooh must get pregnant with twins today).

Earlybird......... you're one of us babe! Stop pretending lol

Need to pick up my DTs in a minute. Supposed to see DD2's teacher today, but it's pouring down and I don't know if I can be arsed to push the double buggy all the way up the hill in it!

harrogatemum · 22/11/2006 14:59

Earlysbird - I just noticed on another thread that you are near Durham.....didnt realise you were so close (ish). Was in Northallerton yesterday meeting a couple of other fellow Mumsnetters - maybe we should meet up some time with our DTs!? (scary thought actually meeting someone from the multiples thread!).

earlysbird · 22/11/2006 15:14

Hi HM, DTs now both asleep on the sofa, bless 'em, so I'm back again, I contemplated wandering down to Northallerton yesterday actually, but DTs both so grumpy with their colds it wouldn't have been fun for anyone! Harrogate's not too far away really, about an hour from here, we venture there occasionally for a bit of culture (shopping really) in fact our first night away from the DTs was there, at the Hotel du Vin but that's a pretty distant memory! Anyway, it would be really nice to meet up & compare notes, once your bump has landed and you're back in the land of the living

harrogatemum · 22/11/2006 15:19

ooh the Hotel du Vin - nice. DH and I like Rudding Park which is just up the road from where we live and where we had our wedding reception. We are contemplating going there for our first post baby night away (it was our 10th wedding anniv in Oct but obviously we didnt do much for it as I have been pregnant forever) - it seems daft when its a 5 minute drive but its soooo nice, would recommend it for a weekend away!

Whereabouts near Durham are you? Will definitely sort something out for after the babe is born.

charleymouse · 22/11/2006 15:35

Hi
thanks for the welcome Earlysbird, Harrogatemum, Throckenholt and Marslady. I don't mind the questions - especially as I will probably have loads for you guys over the next few months.

I am trying to redress the north/south split HM as I currently live in Worksop, North Nottinghamshire 15 mins away from Mum. The new house is in Sheffield where DH and I both work and DD is in nursery. The new house will be 40 minutes drive for my Mum but will actually be attached to FILs. (who unfortunately is not much help, in fact he has already wound up one of our builders so they have walked off site)

I am having a nuchal scan on Friday (private) as have been told my blood tests will all be to pot with twins. I think if it comes back low risk we will just carry on and hope for the best if it comes back high risk we may opt for CVS if time or amnio. Sister has special needs so feel we would need to be prepared for any eventuality even though this is not supposed to be genetic as mum got tested before I got married.

Cheers

earlysbird · 22/11/2006 15:50

HM I'm in the PM's constituency in fact he was rude enough to have George Bush over the day we moved house and we couldn't get near the place then the DTs arrived 3 wks later and life has kind of flashed past in a blur since then & still got boxes in the garage...

Charleymouse my parents live in Sheffield so we can meet up with you sometime if you like, with or without DTs, depending on how scared you want to be! I'm quite familiar with the joys of moving house whilst expecting twins too

harrogatemum · 22/11/2006 16:25

hee hee I moved into our current house and had a scan on the day I was 28 weeks pg with the DTs! Must be a nesting thing.....

Sheff isnt far away Charleymouse - I was born and lived in Chesterfield until I was 11 before I came to sunny Yorkshire. Maybe we should have a mums meet up instead - something a bit more adult - like a night away!! I have seen on another thread that they are trying to plan a summer meet up for Mumsnet for next year but cant decide where is central enough for everyone. It looks like Birmingham has won out - central for England I guess but not if you take the whole country into consideration! Infact I think Harrogate is pretty much equidistant (big word) between east and west coasts and London and Edinburgh!

Anyhow must go and collect the DTs from nursery, have done NOTHING today, just been to midwife, bought some milk, came home, vegged.

Maybe that means i will go into labour tonight.............famous last words!

charleymouse · 22/11/2006 16:47

Hi Earlysbird, I used to live in Sheffield from age 6 to 19 and Harrogatemum I was also born in Chesterfield. Still have family in both places.

The only thing about moving is I don't know when the new place will be ready. I had planned to have the new one (or so I thought) where I currently live with a nice homebirth with the same MW as previous but have since been told it is not advisable. Not sure now whether to jump up and down on the builder to get the new place finished earlier and move whilst heavily pregnant (will also mean new Dr, MW, hospital etc) or stay where I am and move shortly after giving birth. Dilemmas dilemmas dilemmas. Either way doesn't seem pleasant, all the time trying to cause the least disruption to DD.

Thanks for the suggestions, I have yet to meet anyone with twins so that will be something to look forward to.

Sending you going into labour thoughts HM.

MarsLady · 22/11/2006 16:57

charleymouse... I'm curious. Have they said that the homebirth is not advisable because it's DTs or is there another reason? Just doing a wee bit of personal research....NO I'M NOT! Behave the lot of you!

frumpygrumpy · 22/11/2006 20:00

Hi charleymouse! Come in, come in, you can lounge on the couch with HM and largegin and piximon and leogaela and......who else is pg on this thread......Mars nearly was.....I think thats it . Join us do, it is a busy thread these days and it just goes wherever.

After the rollcall thread we need someone very very clever to do us a map (world map?!) with all our names in the right locations. OMG that is such a boring thing to even mention I can't believe it was me .

HM, I did shopping at GLTC, Letterbox, Hamleys (oooh get me), MiniMarvellous and, wait for it, The Wiggles shop in Sydney, Oz!! DT2 is a big Captain Feathersword fan and they have an actual feathersword that they will mail over in time for Christmas. I had heaps of fun with that one . I do shopping for my brother and my gran too so it was mine and theirs combined. Haven't got to the adults yet.... it sounds like I went mad but I didn't really, the adults get a kiss if I like them and a hearty handshake if I tolerate them lmao !!!

Kelly, don't you feel you can tolerate just a couple more meetings? I feel it might help the overall result/ending if you were to show that you worked with them every step of the way. I bet you are completely sick of them (I would be)but you have come this far. Don't let them have anything to write other than you jumped hoops for them. How's things with DP? Has he moved back in yet?

Well ladies, I got little sleep again last night and as I type DT1 is coughing and coughing in her cot. I'm going to get my jobs done and jump into bed as quickly as I can. Somehow I always end up relaxing with MN just before bed and get caught up. I must go to bed early, I'm beginning to look like Dot Cotton.

pssst Mars, I take it lemon drizzle cake counts as a fruit portion......
