I think I would go to the police and ask them.

darlingbud · 22/05/2005 22:38

I would think you would have to have some DNA, be able to describe what the rapist looked like or know who it was. Otherwise how would you progress it?

I really don't know. you maybe need to speak directly to the police and/or rape councillor.

Blu · 22/05/2005 22:42

Any witnesses at the time might help - I don't mean witnesses of the event itself, but if a friend had been told, or an account made to any third parties...

Rape crisis shouild be able to help. i think i'd start there, rather than the police.

Are you ok?

I would either advise the victim to go to the police now and explain the situation or ring a helpline like the Samaritans because if it's left over time it may cause more unhappiness..hope to help, bless friend

If the person worrying about this lives in London then they could go to a Haven centre They do not have to be examined or give evidence to the police, but will get good, sound advice and can also give information which could help to see if the attacker is a repeat offender. (It was Haven staff who put some of the clues together and realised that the railway attacker in london - Anthony Ameida - was a multiple rapist). This may also be useful : Met police are very organised and very aware about sexual assualt and have set up the Sapphire service which has been very successful in offering support even if the person decides not to go through with prosecution. Hope this information helps. Let me know if you need any other advice.

It is possible to get DNA evidence up to 5-7 days after the attack. Bruising etc can be seen for longer than this, but you can go to the Haven anytime. You don't have to live in London wither. Most GUM centres also have a special sexual assualt service if you live a long way from London. Unfortunately sexual assualt is far, far too common. You are not alone. Please don't forget that.

Is there anything I can specifically help you with as I do have experience in this field? You can CAT me if you prefer not to give further details on this thread. If not, I hope those 2 sites are helpful in giving you further information.
