Should my husband be asking my parents for inheritance money now?

My parents are of an age to be doing IHT planning. They have not decided on anything yet.
I know my OH and I have much more money than my brother and his wife, and a much fancier lifestyle. My brother just moved house. He’s a contented person. He and his OH are quite happy doing the house up slowly, at his own pace, though it does need some work.
My OH just told my parents that they were on course to be the richest corpses in the graveyard. He suggested them giving my brother £100k right now to help him employ decorators, replace windows and install a new kitchen more quickly.
Then my OH told my parents that if they do, he will fight them for £100k for me now, too. We don’t even need the money. I am worried he’s making my parents think he’s greedy and they might change their plans. My parents say they are ignoring it but I think they are cross.
I want OH and me to be a team and I want to involve him in financial discussions with my parents. But I am uncomfortable with this.
I think my OH needs to take his lead from me and not ask my parents for money.
Thoughts please?

Christ, your DH is vile! Get rid.

Jesus Christ, he’d be my ex husband before he could blink if he spoke to my parents like that !
How rude 😳

Absolutely!

It would be one thing if he was just saying it to them about helping your brother out. But to then throw in the bit about fighting for money for you is very odd!

ArthriticOldLabrador · 13/04/2026 16:59

Your husband is crass and money grabbing.

Busybeemumm · 13/04/2026 16:59

I think my OH needs to take his lead from me and not ask my parents for money.

You 'think'. You should be confident in knowing that he has massively overstepped. I'm now wondering what other shit your DH has got away with!

Holesinmesocks · 13/04/2026 16:59

Are you married to this twat? If so divorce him yesterday and if not dump him off the nearest high ledge.
What an absolute bastard he really is.
Got to admit I'm struggling to believe anyone would do this let alone stupid enough to stay with them.

ifonly4 · 13/04/2026 17:00

My DH wouldn't dare say that to my Mum - not that we want her money, but she's not the easiest person and would probably be on the solicitors door at 9am tomorrow to change her Will.

Do you and they generally get on well with him?

BillieWiper · 13/04/2026 17:01

It's absolutely bang out of order he could go above your head on this matter. It's fuck all to do with him.

Apologise profusely to your parents and say this didn't come from you. Then consider my relationship with my husband very strongly. He doesn't seem to think you have autonomy about your own affairs?

Tell him to butt out and he's overstepped massively. If he does so again he's out. If anything don't get any money off them because he does sound like a money grabber.

Igmum · 13/04/2026 17:02

I’m cross and I’m not even one of your parents. He is a total CF

roseymoira · 13/04/2026 17:02

Was he making a poorly delivered/received joke?

Yellowcustard · 13/04/2026 17:02

Who the hell does your OH think he is?!! Boy I'd be telling him to pipe down if I were you. You refer to him as your OH not DH. Sure hope you aren't married.

saraclara · 13/04/2026 17:03

Another one who finds it hard to believe that this is real.

I would be horrified and considering my future with this man. And if one of my sons in law came out with this, I'd be having a conversation with my daughter about whether she planned to stay with him. Because I'd suspect that he'd leave her once the money was in the bank, and claim half.

I'd also be talking to a financial advisor regarding how I could protect the inheritance that I planned for my DD, so that he couldn't get his fingers on it. .

Isit2026yet · 13/04/2026 17:04

@Wwe175 that is dumbfounding. My DH is an only child and his parents are well of. He'd never dream of saying that to his own parents let alone me. Yes it makes sense to IHT plan if your parents estate is big enough. But it should be driven from them or you gently enquiring not your husband.

BernardButlersBra · 13/04/2026 17:05

Before reading the actual thread and just reading the title l thought reverse

purpleygrey · 13/04/2026 17:05

My god. Divorce him now and get financially separated from the money grabbing knob.

WildLeader · 13/04/2026 17:05

If I were your parents, I’d be giving you that £100k to take your H to the cleaners.

id never see him in the same light again. That’s a perma-ick right there.

Chilly80 · 13/04/2026 17:06

He did what!?!?

If i was your parents I'd be cutting you out of my will and leaving it to the grandkids instead.

Mymanyellow · 13/04/2026 17:06

If my son was struggling to do up his house and needed the money I would give it to him.
But I would resent being told to do so by my son in law

LiveLuvLaugh · 13/04/2026 17:06

Don’t marry this toss bin.

LadyHexham · 13/04/2026 17:06

Good Grief!

Passingthrough123 · 13/04/2026 17:07

I would be furious if my DP started a conversation with my parents about any inheritance. Yours has massively overstepped and I am not surprised your parents are struggling to hide their anger. How dare he.

SUUUUUUNNNNN · 13/04/2026 17:08

Say what now??

loislovesstewie · 13/04/2026 17:09

I'm gobsmacked.

beAsensible1 · 13/04/2026 17:11

He’s not wrong about helping your brother now. But obviously wasn’t his place to bring it up let alone “fight” for money for you.

Skudahoo · 13/04/2026 17:11

Bloody hell, OP. I wouldn't blame your parents if they banned him from their home and cut him out of any inheritance altogether.

What a horrible man.

thepariscrimefiles · 13/04/2026 17:11

I can't believe that your husband spoke to your parents like that! He comes across as arrogant, pushy, greedy and totally inappropriate.

What on earth did your parents say or do after he gave his little speech? I'd have been dying inside with sheer embarrassment.

If they had asked him opinion, that would be different, but they obviously did not.
