What job do you do to earn that amount?

Big tech. Quite niche skills in my area. Main income is company stocks which you are granted when hired and as they appreciate in value, income skyrockets. Base salary is 250k, to give you an idea of how crazy tech stocks can be.

I guess it’s that age old saying? Money doesn’t buy happiness.

im sorry you had such a tough childhood.

I know you said you give money to charity, but what about getting involved in helping out at a food bank or something. That’s a great way to meet people.

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 01/12/2025 21:09

I'll give you two of my least favourite sisters (I've loads) and my MIL on HP for £5k a month. You'll still be rich, I'll be richer than I am now, you'll have support and I'll have more peace and quiet. Win win.

Two beautiful primary school kids, adventourous, kind little souls. An emotionally checked out husband, thats a whole other chapter but maybe why I feel perpetually alone too.

Your kids sound great!

your DH not so much! Have you thought about a divorce? It's less lonely being alone, than being in a marriage when they've checked out.

As alone as I feel, even after my stroke & having to cope alone, I still wouldn't swap it for having my ex back.

I know a couple of people who earn over £1 million per year plus bonuses. They buy in quite a lot of support - cleaners, gardeners etc.

What are you hoping to gain from this thread?

Cleaners are just so cheap for me, my cleaning company is 13p/h, I pay her £20p/h but its £60 a week so I don't notice this amount. My gardner is £60 a fortnight. My Nanny is 35k P/A for less than pull time hours. I have got hired support,
I am very, very grateful for this opportunity. It is not the same as someone who loves me, loves my kids, desperate to have them sleep over. O have had one night away from them, thats OK, but I am envious of people who have loads of places their kids sleep over- grandparents, cousins, etc. For them and me.

Ok I’ve got questions, weirdly me and a colleague were wondering the other day what people do each month who make a lot of money.

Do you ever just say ‘fuck it’ were going on holiday next week and if so where do you like to travel to?

when you spend money on eating out, what kind of places?

What is it like walking into shops and being able to buy whatever outfits you want?

Are you happy or do you still feel unfulfilled sometimes?

I know it is easy to think i am here making up deluded stories. But seriously, what would I have to gain here? You do know that people earn pretty silly money in tech? The big companies pay silly money for the right heads. I know it might be easier to think I am making it up, but I think that would be so so odd to come here to say hey money doesn't make you less lonely. Surely I would be banging on about my fleet of supercars? (Just a toyota sorry)

It sounds false af , can't believe anyone would believe this is real. But there are plenty of gullible people, even on mn.

I skimmed through, I didn’t see where she liked to travel or what places she likes to eat out at. I saw savings of 50K per month.. saving for what?

I love this question. Yes holidays I can just say lets go. I can filter my hotel search for the top places and not worry about the bill. I LOVE tipping so it is nice to go away and tip.
Restaurants, I never look at the price, my kids are extremely lucky they have tried everything,
Groceries, again no looking at the price.
Clothes. I am a big bum fatty so online fat shops like YOURS all the way. I would probaly be a menace on the high street if I was the skinny minny I used to be.

My heath took a massive turn since kids. Huge. I have travelled the world and now my world has got much smaller, ironically right as my wallet got bigger. . The 50k PCM is going in to 'what if' savings accounts. A LOT of people in my feild are aiming for FATFIRE so retiring early with savings that generate enough income to live as we are used to. I have saved over a million but no where near the safety net to live like I am used to or protect me from care home costs, major health work, etc.

Am wondering if your colleagues are also on a similar pay structure?

So, our work Christmas party is nice restaurant and lots of wine.

Are yours next level like Kardashian, private plane to some fun destination?

@cripplinglyalone I am money rich but support /family poor. AMA.

What on earth is support/family poor?

You know that people in full time jobs generally aren't supported by their parents, right... ... ...??

Start taking in ironing to make ends meet.
One chicken can feed a family for a week.
Sell one of the uglier children, I hear the EE market is still lucrative.
Thoughts and prayers OP.

but you do know people earn this much right? Is it becasue you think I wouldnt come on Mumsnet to share it? Google tech salaries. Youtube ex tech AMA's who left becasue it got too much.
Why would I be lying? If I said my business was generating this amount would you believe me? Or if I said I inherited the equivillent? You do realise salaries can and do go high? Is it just easier to yell liar?

Isn't this a classic case of money not buying you happiness? Op might be filthy stinking rich (and apparently therefore fair game for being quite mean to Hmm) but she is lonely and unhappy. And thats shit.

I actually think this might be the direction my son is headed in. He already earns a silly amount of money. But it alienates him from his peers, some of my family think he should be splashing the cash left right and centre and don't understand when he doesn't and he is keen to have a normal life, but obviously his life isn't normal.

Its hard to watch. And I feel for you.

I guess the flip.side is you could still feel like this a be scrabbling round for the pennies under the sofa for a pint of milk and that would be really shit.

I dont know what the answer is but I do want to say I feel for you. Have a virtual hug.

I am proud, but life is unfair, the wealth divide sucks. I am sickened by people who don't realsie most of wealth is luck. I worked hard yes, but so does the working class, hte hardest grafters and the more money you have, the easier it gets to accumulate, Unfair, unbalanced, and I do my bit as hard as I can to give back.

You’re clearly a good person! Maybe re-think the checked out husband.. life is short x

Thanks so much. It is hard to feel sorry for someone who is 'rolloing in it'
I grew up poor so I know the 'what the hell ahve they got to moan about/' mentality.
I am so sorry your understanding of this stems from first-hand worries about your own son. I do hope he finds his way. It can indeed be very vrey alienating and only when you live it do you understand the complexity and how friendships alter. I don't want to go and make friends with the mercedes wankers at the golf club!
