PIP REVIEW, STILL WAITING!

Dh's PIP award is due to end in April this year. We received a review form which I completed and returned by due date of 20th September 2024. I sent it tracked so know they received it, it was a large package as I included lots of evidence. We still haven't heard anything, payments are still going in to the bank account but I'm worried as what will happen when we get to the end of the award date in April. It was granted for three years and the three years will be up in April. We are Preston, Lancashire area. Does anyone have any advice?

I helped a family member with a review in Dec 23, it was due to run out in Oct 24 and they sent the forms 10 months in advance. We sent the forms back in Dec 23 and heard nothing all year. At the beginning of October they extended their PIP for a year because the review was not yet done and the we got the decision on a paper assessment at the end of October 24.

The wait is genrally long and will vary by area but I believe PIP remains in payment until the review is completed.

bigkahunaburger · 12/02/2025 13:37

I thought youd get a 'review in progress' text around April. OR you will get a 'its been extended for a year before we get to process your review' message.

Dont quote me on that, but I think thats how it works.

LadyKenya · 12/02/2025 13:42

They will probably just extend it, like they are doing for lots of people who have sent in review forms. There is quite a big backlog. You will still receive payments though.

SpikyPompoms · 12/02/2025 13:46

I sent forms back last January. Award expired in August. I got a message not long ago saying they are "reviewing it" and will be in touch.

Don't hold your breath!

Queenanne20 · 12/02/2025 13:46

Thanks so much for the replies. It's reassuring to know it will still continue to be paid after the end date of April if they haven't reviewed it by then. The other thing I'm concerned about is that if they extend it for a year, will I then have to send then updated paperwork and evidence or will they still go off the paperwork I sent in September 2024?

My review came January 2023, sent all the stuff in. I just had a video assessment this week! One year later 🙂
Now 6 weeks to decide / get outcome. You just get paid continuously until whenever they get to it.

MamaBanana12 · 12/02/2025 13:49

Sorry I made a typo, I meant January 2024 it came.

Queenanne20 · 12/02/2025 13:51

Wow, sounds like reviews are taking ages!

Yeah I've read they prioritise new claims over reviews as money is in payment for people waiting review but new claimants might need the money. The delays were initially pandemic related, but they've never seemed to catch up!

The one I was involved with they just used the 10 month old form and didn't ask for.any updated evidence.

Queenanne20 · 12/02/2025 14:04

Good to hear they will hopefully use the same evidence and not class it as out of date. I can't face gathering all that evidence together again, I was hoping to have at least another couple of years before I had to start getting evidence together again!

Hi op, my claim is due to end April aswell. I also received my review forms same time as you and returned them before September 28th.
I am still yet to hear. I did call last week and was told it's still in the pile to be looked at. Keep us updated !

Queenanne20 · 12/02/2025 14:30

@bagheera92 Thanks so much for that information, it's really put my mind at rest. I'll post on here as soon as we hear anything and it would be great if you could too. Thanks again!

I think I had to have a video appointment as my condition has deteriorated. Hopefully won't be too long for answer back! They said 6 weeks like

DinoLil · 12/02/2025 14:37

Exactly the same here, even down to the dates!

I get the odd text to say they still have the form, but that's it.

Queenanne20 · 12/02/2025 14:44

@DinoLil I never get a text from them, never have, even though I've given them my mobile number. I have proof from Royal Mail it was delivered and I phoned and double checked but it does worry me that they never text.

My PIP was due to run out in December 2024 , I received the review forms Jan 2024. I kept getting texts every 3mths saying they'd get round to it after I sent them back with 499 pieces of evidence.

In the middle of December I got a letter to say it had been extended for a year while they dealt with the back log. Then a couple of days later I got a text to say it was done. My award stayed the same for 6yrs, which was what it was last time, too.

PocketSand · 12/02/2025 14:59

Last time I filed a review for DS1 I got no response at all before the next review was due! This time after hearing nothing for about 11 months I have just received a letter saying review had not yet been 'completed' (I assume not yet started would be more accurate) and extended the award for a year.

I don't know why they don't just stop pointless reviews where function is not expected to improve/life long disability given we are obliged to inform of any change during the award. Or at least make awards longer instead of harassing claimants to fill in large forms and gather information that they don't have the staff to even read.

Not to mention the stress and anxiety caused by the uncertainty of continuation of award without reduction that starts when review forms are submitted and does not end for over 18 months and then starts again 2 years later.

Queenanne20 · 12/02/2025 16:06

I've just phoned them and been told there is a 34 week backlog in my area. They confirmed that it will continue to be paid if we get to the April end date and I will get a letter saying it will be extended for a year but it will probably be looked at earlier and it won't actually be extended for a year, it's just to cover themselves due to the backlog. They were puzzled as to why they have never sent me text updates as that is the usual procedure. They are obviously struggling to get through reviews and it makes you worry that they will make, possibly wrong, decisions in a hurry. Surely there has to be a better way than putting people through all this anxiety every couple of years or so?

I sent my sons in in April 24 when it was due to expire Oct 24 and got regular text messages saying it was under review and that they would continue to pay till it was reviewed. Then we got a letter around Oct say it had been temporarily extended for a further year pending review. Finally about 3 week ago we got the decision to say it had been reviewed and remained in place with no change for 10 years. The 10 years did surprise me as it had previously been a 5 year award after a tribunal decision. My son has Autism and several related issues

Orangesandlemons77 · 12/02/2025 16:20

Mine is also up in April and I sent back the forms last spring, have just had some texts saying they have it but nothing else.

I have just been sending in any other stuff I get as I get it e.g. a follow up letter to add to it.

JBJ · 12/02/2025 16:21

Mine took over a year from filling in the review form to actually having the telephone assessment. They've got a massive backlog apparently.

Orangesandlemons77 · 13/02/2025 13:45

I'm quite stressed about it as they turned me down twice in the past and needed to appeal. Knowing they will be checking last time's report and going from that.

I have done a couple of diary forms I found online to challenge anything they might put down in an interview, just in case. Not sure if it will help anything.

peribaddreams · 13/02/2025 14:25

Sorry to piggy back onto this thread... please ignore if that's annoying! But there do seem to be knowledgeable people here!

I think my PIP is due for review but I've not heard from them. Payments are still going in and my blue badge has another year before review. I'm starting to get stressed that they will want me to pay back some money if they review and I drop down a bracket (gradual improvements to condition). I don't want to do myself out of payments which i desperately need since having to go part time at work but also I don't want to end up in debt to the DWP.

Have you tried looking at the criteria they gave you last time because even with improvements in your condition you might still meet them? You can ask for a letter with the criteria on it is you ask them.
