PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

I was awarded today, found out by text this morning. I thought I would give a quick summary to give others hope, as I've been so worried I would get knocked back. The last few years have been extremely rough for my family and if I'd been refused I wouldn't have had it in me to appeal.
Initially applied in Oct but after getting covid in November I was too ill to meet the deadline and assumed I was too late to ask for extension, but rang and they gave me another month.
Filled form online, submitted medical evidence etc
got text in Jan from assessment service saying they would book an appointment for me soon.
got a call in March asking me to ring the assessor back and when I did was explained to me they wanted to do a paper based assessment and just needed to clarify a few things.
got the text later that day saying dwp had recieved my assessment and I would hear within 8 weeks.
had a text today saying I was awarded (about 10 days since last text)
no idea on my points, level of award but honestly I'm so grateful to have anything that I will just see what my award letter says when it arrives.

Very good news, Goodies.

I have to agree with this.
My report said she'd seen me "walking briskly" which was REALLY odd, as it was done over the phone.

That doesn't surprise me, @TheShellBeach. I've seen some utter nonsense in assessors' reports, including ones where the applicant has apparently changed sex and back again during the course of the assessment and gone from he to she and back again.

It's helpful when it comes to an appeal though, as it means you can discredit the report. If the report the decision is based on is full of errors, it means the decision can't be relied upon.

I spoke to Pip again today to see if they had recieved the letter they told me to send which cost £6.75 only to be told it was irrelevent and they wouldnt even look at it what a waste of money i dont think one knows what the other one is doing so many different answers to questions

Yes, we’re trying to do them more for people that are considered high risk or with certain conditions or those we’ve identified to not cope as well with the full assessment process. it’s less stressful for the claimant than the full assessment process.

That's really helpful @AprilShowers223, thanks.

I work in welfare rights and do a lot of PIP applications (and a fair few appeals.

I suspected that something like that was in place, especially after I heard today that a client had had an award letter in respect of an application we only did in mid-late Jan, and without an assessment. We had a vulnerability marker put on his UC claim, because he's considered at high risk of suicide. It seems this may have been taken into account.

Has anyone been awarded anything from dwp even if assesor scores zero points without having to do a MR

I has to do a full tribunal the first time this happened to me, and an MR the second time.

Shebaduke · 04/04/2023 19:31

Oh ok thanks

My Foster son was given paper based review. I was worried so rang and asked why..I was told I had already provided enough evidence for assessor to make informed decision. Foster son awarded 29 points so more than enough for full payments of both daily care and mobility. I sent in reports from each specialist/consultant Foster son saw including Educational Psychologists, social worker report on his needs and report from his special school plus EHCP. You may have provided enough evidence already

Hi there - see if you can find a welfare rights advisor to assist you in completing the form. It's a minefield to start with.
People do not claim PIP for particular health conditions, but rather for their inability to perform certain activities of daily living and mobility.

www.citizensadvice.org.uk/Global/Migrated_Documents/adviceguide/pip-9-table-of-activities-descriptors-and-points.pdf

Go to your GP and explain how you are struggling with mental health. Then it will be recorded in your medical notes. I paid £10 for my GP to write a short report of my medical condition including things I could not do alone eg bathe. I sent that to PIP along with report from back specialist who did scan.

I was told a week ago i would have a decision by Easter and i just rang them and they seid i don't know who told you by Easter it will be another couple of weeks yet 😒 . Im going to use this time to prepare for a MR.

Sara0 · 05/04/2023 12:33

I’m absolutely sick of waiting.. it’s been 16 weeks since I first made my claim.. and still waiting … it’s really not fair on us how we are told completely different answers…

mammaov3 · 05/04/2023 12:54

@Sara0 i can't imagine waiting 16 weeks i know yours is a new claim and mine is review but its when they tell you different things that gets me mad ,i bet they still don't have a decision for me in 2 weeks im going to try not think about it and prepare for a MR , The assessor scored me enough points but what the DM does with that i don't know.

mammaov3 · 05/04/2023 13:03

@Sara0 Fingers crossed 🤞 you hear soon

Sara0 · 05/04/2023 13:11

@mammaov3 I’m in the same boat as you.. yes mine is a new claim and assessor has scored me enough but i don’t know what the DM will do.. I don’t know why we even have the assessment of this is the case ! Thanku and wish u the same ii really hope and pray we all get the decision we deserve !

Sara0 · 05/04/2023 13:15

I wake up every day with hope and then as the day goes by there’s nothing at all.. I’m not gona call them now coz I waste my own time and have a bunch of different lies! The guy jus said to me he’s messaged the decision maker saying we have got the evidence we needed since the 30th March and hopefully a decision should be made this week…
