PIP

Hi. New to the forum and PIP and am hoping some of the forum members can help me understand the claim process a little better, I applied for PIP in early December 2022. DWP told me that Capita had received my forms on December 9th. But i have not had a phone assessment scheduled yet. So i called Capita just to make sure everything was fine with my claim. They told me this morning that my claim "is in initial review" and that they "are requesting info from my medical contacts so they can do a Paper assessment". Is this a good/bad sign that my claim will be successful?

thank you I haven’t had a text yet so I will call them today and see if it has been received 🤞🏽

I called PIP this morning and my assessment report hasn’t been received yet, it that normal? Thank you

When did you have assessment?

I think it just depends on how quick the person doing the assessment gets it typed up and back to dwp

pleasehelp23 · 28/09/2023 10:46

I had my assessment last Friday and the assessor said she was writing it up and sending it straight back 🤔

pleasehelp23 · 28/09/2023 16:04

I’ve just had a call from the assessor again, she sent my report off and DWP went back to her asking for more info. She said she didn’t want to call me back as she didn’t think it was needed so now she has added more info and will send it back to the DM so hopefully I will hear back soon 🤞🏽

I'm new to claiming pip so don't know much about it. I get low rate daily. Would I be entitled to the cost of living payment? @Babyroobs you might know this.

InMySpareTime · 01/10/2023 21:18

COL payment isn't linked to PIP as that's not means tested (you could be a millionaire and still claim it).
If you get income-based ESA or UC you can get the COL payment.

awaitingroom · 01/10/2023 21:26

Thanks @InMySpareTime
No other benefits so I won't get it.

There are no more cost of living payments for disability benefits this year. There was one in the summer. As others have said the only one that is due in the next couple of weeks is for means tested benefits.

I had a text this morning to say DWP have my assessment report, I called to ask for a copy hoping it won’t take too long to get a decision 🤞🏽 how long has everyone been waiting? Thank you

BarmyBrummie · 02/10/2023 10:19

@pleasehelp23
I've been waiting 7 weeks for a decision following my assessment. I had a call on Friday from DWP asking about a hospital stay I had in Nov 2021 and how long I was in for. Gave them the info and asked if they were any further to a decision and they say not at the minute no. I'm not sure if it depends on areas too, I've seen people get decision back in a matter of days and others (like myself) it takes week. Hope this helps!x

pleasehelp23 · 02/10/2023 10:35

Thank you for your reply, I hope you get a decision soon. The text I got did say as a guide it could take 8 weeks before I get a decision but as you say I’ve seen that some people have had a decision with days, I just hope it don’t take so long 🤞🏽

Dylanb · 03/10/2023 12:11

Hi, I have received a text saying the form is on its way to me to complete for a PIP review. From sending the form back how long was it until you receive any appointments ie an interview or phone call?

BarmyBrummie · 03/10/2023 12:13

Can anyone help shed any light please?
I've had a text this morning to say "Your PIP review is complete. You should receive your decision letter in 2 weeks. Once you receive your letter, contact us if you have any questions".
Does that mean that my pip will continue? I don't know what I expected but I thought id have a message to say that it's been reviewed and I've got blah blah x

Dylanb · 03/10/2023 12:15

BarmyBrummie, Did you just complete the review form and then got the text. What was the time span on that from returning the form?

i got exactly the same 3 weeks ago i was recievibg standard care but put in for a change of circumstances and my review was due next november

i had phoned up pip a week before and my payments were going up so i must of also had a paper decision as no phone or face to face either, anyway i then recieved the decision a week or so after the txt and had it upgraded to enhanced living and enhanced mobility for 6 yrs and got my back payment a week after,it took from asking for the form to the letter 13 wks

try phoning them and before you get through to someone it will tell you your next payment so that should tell you

let us know how you get on good luck x

BarmyBrummie · 03/10/2023 16:41

@Dylanb sadly not. I completed the review form last June and didn't get my assessment until August this year. It's taken 7 weeks to get to the point where I am today.

@catskittens thanks lovely! Can I call up when they are closed or does it have to be when the offices are open? Do you know by any chance what options I need to press? Honestly, this whole situation has been such a stress for me. I bet you'll be glad you got a paper based decision - those assessments are awful. I requested the report and the assessor completely contradicted herself. For example - I need someone to put me in the bath and wash me - that was written in report. She then chose needs an aid to wash! It makes no sense at all honestly! I'll let you know how I get on though x

hi,just phone the normal number you go through security not a person just standard voice asking you then they say when your next payment is due and how much, you can then work out if you have been awarded no need to speak to a real person then just hang up

yes can only find out monday-friday office hrs

i asked for my report by the assesor as it was then by the decission maker and worked out 12 points for both but was worried it could be down graded but when i got the award in writing i still was awarded 12 for daily living and 12 for mobility and upped the time from 5 to 6 yrs ao was really pleased and it will really help with out sourcing things due to my disability

it also seems it was pretty quick 13wks in all but i was already getting standard living and im guessing as my review 2024 was coming up they looked at everything as a review as it would save on that coming up next year so basically i was very lucky with my case in general

did you work out what points you scored by the assesor, that can give a good indication?

best of luck x

Dylanb · 03/10/2023 18:54

@BarmyBrummie Do you mean you sent the review form back in June 23 and had an assessment in August 23? And are now waiting?

BarmyBrummie · 03/10/2023 19:02

@Dylanb nope, I sent the review form back in June 2022 - hard to believe I know but after asking questions on here it seemed that the reviews had been put on hold so they could process the new claims. Which is fair I guess as majority of the new claims potentially had no money coming in whereas reviews still get paid until the review is complete :) (I believe)

BarmyBrummie · 03/10/2023 19:05

@catskittens oh great, thanks for letting me know! I'll give them a call tomorrow and see if I can figure it out.
I had a look through the report but there were a few descriptors for the care component that her answers didn't actually match what she'd written in the body of the report so I'll just wait and see. The mobility part should be 12 points if the decision maker agrees with the assessor which I can't see any reason why they wouldn't disagree.
Thanks lovely - I'll keep you updated x

BarmyBrummie · 03/10/2023 19:08

@Dylanb the timeline is below-
Received review form beginning of June 2022
Sent it back and had a text on 1st July 22 to say they received it.
Had my telephone assessment Aug this year. Had a text to say they got the report 7 weeks ago. And another text message this morning to say they've made a decision.

yeah not been on mobility before and assessor graded it as 12 points thought the d maker may downgrade but they agreed so was very happy with that though my consultant had written a factual report,im counting my blessings hugely as it seems my case was dealt with very quickly and on paper cant really ask for more

it must be very stressful for you waiting this long fingers crossed it's near the end and hope you get a great result x
