I can't believe we're already more than halfway through the year. I hope those of you that are established £10 a Day-ers are still doing well, keeping motivated and chasing the £££s. Welcome to all the newbies - hopefully these threads will help you as much as they've helped me and many others.

I've had "invites" to "projects" by email.

Appen

I was a bit naughty and said I had google chrome 31 and adobe 9 - I don't - do I really need them or only for certain projects?

I've been super busy otherwise so I'm just now looking at things.

What it is the way the projects are described seem gobbledegook to me - but actually I'm just looking at the actual emails properly and I think I could do many of them - are the project descriptions a load of waffle usually?

I'm also not sure how it works re payment as amounts in $? Is normal bank info sufficient or do I need to set up a PayPal or similar account? (I've been wary of this until now)

1st project email appears to be something I can do on phone. The hours per week - do they have to be completed "in business hours" are there set times or any time of day?

I'm really needing at the moment at least things I can do late at night as I am someone who doesn't sleep much/well and would be good to have things I can do in the wee hours

Ok I'll be posting more that's all I can think of for now

Graphista · 20/07/2022 18:54

Ok now noticing multiple emails are for the same project - is this normal?

Eek! 1st application in hope I can do it. Think I can. They're reviewing application

A weird "aptitude" I have is nothing phases me. "Distressing content" "adult content" that kinda thing doesn't bother me in the slightest in terms of projects like on this. I mention it simply in case anyone knows of any other sites/options where this could be useful.

Ex hcp and horror movie fan so gore etc doesn't bother me, very open minded "adult content" wise (providing legal) so ok with that too. I've lived a life very little of that kinda thing shocks me.

PoseyFlump · 20/07/2022 20:19

@Graphista I don't want to piss on your bonfire but I've spent a year applying for Appen stuff and not yet had one project to work on. Once you've jumped through all the application hoops you are then told to wait until you receive an email saying you can work it. The projects have all ended before I get to that point. It depends how many people they need in certain geographical areas. So I don't want you to get your hopes up too high.

Matched betting and Prolific have been my best earners. I tried transcription work but it's very poorly paid (and I'm a touch typist) and usually the audio is dire.

PoseyFlump · 20/07/2022 20:23

@Graphista I noticed you said you'd be fine with adult content. I seem to remember reading something on The Money Shed about adult texting jobs.

Graphista · 20/07/2022 20:52

@PoseyFlump I'm in Scotland so I'm hoping that may mean less applicants in my area generally but I'm certainly not "depending" on Appen or indeed the others as such. I just figured it'd be a way to get the odd bit extra money in and get me starting to do that kind of work again and maybe help with rebuilding confidence.

I'm also a touch typist but that type of work has always had rubbish pay probably as female dominated but I'm coming at this from a perspective of its not really costing me anything to do it except in time - which I have in too much abundance! And I'm fed up of not using my brain, getting bored and ending up doing things that are expensive/unhealthy to alleviate that boredom. Not sure any of that makes sense

Graphista · 20/07/2022 20:53

What's the money shed? Off to google I'd be fine doing texting type stuff.

lem0njelly · 20/07/2022 21:23

I've hardly had any Appen stuff but I usually do a minimum of 10 hours a week with Telus(max is 20) and get between £400 and £600 a month. I've registered as self employed as it seems a steady earner. I'm a 'maps analyst ' but I haven't done much map stuff. I can't say much else due to NDA but theres a good Reddit forum for Lionbridge (former name of Telus). The exam needs a lot of reading but it's definitely worth it. Can be a bit mind numbing and sometimes I'm not sure if I'm doing it correctly but I'm a few months in now. I try and do two hours a day. Sometimes there is no work available so it's not something that can be relied on.
I have made mistakes but they've sent me stuff to look at to help.correct it.
It's making a huge difference for me.

Redcrayons · 20/07/2022 21:27

prolific payment has just arrived.

8DPWoah · 21/07/2022 07:56

@Graphista as you can touch type have you had a look at the transcription job links? Might work for you, nobody gives a monkeys when you work on them as long as you hit the deadline and I started with no previous experience. Pay rate isn't amazing but it's transparent at least, I didn't need to get any equipment and was provided with the one piece of software needed by WWW.

Thanks for the posts re SSci, must admit I wasn't fretting about being a bit late with a couple of the tiny jobs this week as a result!

mrsrobin · 21/07/2022 19:40

Telus...please could someone let me knoe which website I need to go to to sign up for this maps thingy? Thank you :)

Graphista · 21/07/2022 19:48

@8DPWoah 6 yes I've not spotted any yet I need to check it out later I'm very busy next couple days! Famine or feast here on that score

Tomorrow is downright crazy!

Oh and does anyone know if you can work with both Appen and Telus at the same time? Thank you

StopDontTalkToMe · 21/07/2022 20:18

Gutted that I actually passed the WWW tests but they are full so I’m on a waiting list.

Try this link, hope it works. jobs.telusinternational.com/en_US/careers/aicommunity/?4207=%5B5138%5D&4207_format=10123&listFilterMode=1. Select United Kingdom to narrow it down a bit

I don't do any projects that are similar on Appen as don't want to risk conflict. The only Allen ones I've done have been voice recordings and things.

Thank you :) Yes, I will avoid similar projects too then , I just needed to know whether you can actually do both. I am interested in the maps thing on Telus and have not been on a similar project on App - I do the transcription ones mostly on there.

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 22/07/2022 08:29

I'm wondering if anyone can offer any advice... I joined Ap around 7 months ago now. I applied for 29 projects, got approved on 7. All 7 the project was over by the time I was approved and there was no work to do. The other 22 just sat at the 'screening' stage for months and months. I wasn't approved for a single project with any work to actually do.

I emailed Ap and just got the 'we're working through applications' email.

Is this normal? Should I set up a new account?

ruralwanderer · 22/07/2022 08:32

@Twobecomingthreeplusthedog totally normal unfortunately - just keep applying to everything and eventually one will come off. The surveys are usually the quickest to get going on and whilst they won't make you rich, every little helps. Good luck Smile

I cashed out £80 on prolific yesterday and it was instant so hopefully everything is back to normal now.

Thank you for replying! I've given up with Appen now, I signed up to the Ch**den project literally 2 seconds after the email arrived. Did the test and didn't even get an email back to say whether I'd passed it or not.

Am going to try Telus next and if that fails, admit i'll be poor forever (joke).

StopDontTalkToMe · 21/07/2022 20:18

I think they must have just had a new starter batch as we've gone from there being a huge amount of work waiting to be picked up to 'blink and you'll miss it' this last week. Definitely stick with it as they will need you soon, I'm sure, if the last few months is anything to go by!

I have, to my disgust 😂 done some work on UHRS this morning just to see. @Twobecomingthreeplusthedog if you see a project on App that's named after a phase of the moon try that one if you haven't already, it's not great work but it's there at least. I haven't done anything on it for the last year and they haven't booted me.

Twobecomingthreeplusthedog · 22/07/2022 14:22

@8DPWoah

Thanks for replying. I've applied for that one just now to just see if I can get anything going. Also applied to Telus earlier today.

Just had to fix my energy for another year so really do need to earn some extra money!!!

Got an email about new neevo projects. Looks a bit dodgy to me.
