ruralwanderer · 01/07/2022 08:02

I can't believe we're already more than halfway through the year. I hope those of you that are established £10 a Day-ers are still doing well, keeping motivated and chasing the £££s. Welcome to all the newbies - hopefully these threads will help you as much as they've helped me and many others.

For the newbies - I'd recommend grabbing a cup of tea and reading back through the previous threads before you sign up for anything. Most of your questions will have already been answered and you'll hit the ground running if you've already got an idea what this is all about.

For the S Sci peeps - I had a reply to my email to say that payment should be tomorrow 👌

Potatoes is diabolically slow! And I keep missing the shifts today - so annoying!

@AdaShelby what reason do you give for skipping? The only thing I’ve had for China is a slotted spoon, which was admittedly quite useful. The rest is straight to charity shop rubbish.

I just say payment issues on checkout. No way I'm buying from there with the new rules.

stillherenow · 14/07/2022 13:45

Quick question about tax. This is the first year I may go over the £1k threshold and have to fill in a tax return. I've been keeping a pot of 25pc of everything I earn for this tax payment, but do I pay tax on it all or do I still get the £1k leeway (I work so am subject to tax).

Londoner256 · 15/07/2022 08:48

Anyone working on LionBridge now known as Telus? Haven't heard them mentioned much lately.
I'm just doing part 1 of the exam, the one with the 170page guidelines! Fingers crossed!

stillherenow · 15/07/2022 11:45

Still no search sciences payment here - anyone else ?

BecauseOfIndia · 15/07/2022 13:12

@stillherenow I haven't been paid either - getting a bit fed up!

@Londoner256 I do a mystery shopping project with Telus and have just been accepted on to an AI project. They are brilliant, tend to pay a lot more than Appen but for the same work.

Iwantsunshine · 15/07/2022 15:48

Ive posted before to ask the question but no response so will try again.

does anyone use a Chromebook (as opposed to a laptop) for this type of work, or Appen or any of the research or transcription based work?

surely someone can answer this for me, just looking into starting up and only use my work laptop at the moment so would need to purchase something and wondering if a chrome book would be sufficient…

ruralwanderer · 15/07/2022 17:17

I got paid by S Sci this morning so if you haven't it may be worth chasing.

@Iwantsunshine I use a Chromebook and it works perfectly for this work.

@stillherenow the self assessment tool has a space to declare employed earnings as well as self employed them calculates what you owe overall. Hope this helps 😊

Iwantsunshine · 15/07/2022 17:26

@ruralwanderer thank you so much for confirming! I’ll go ahead and get one :)

I'm not sure if anyone has already posted a Monzo link on this thread, but in case they haven't and you fancy a fiver, I'll post my link.

You get a free £5 when you sign up and make a purchase within 30 days. It's really easy to do and you can refer up to 100 people.

Here is what you need to do:

Enter your phone number on the webpage.

Download the Monzo app and verify your ID. To verify your ID, you take a picture of your passport or whatever.

Top up your account. I just topped up £1 when I did it.

Make a payment of any amount and you will then receive the £5 bonus in your account. Do this within 30 days to receive bonus. I used my Monzo account to buy a drink that I'd have bought anyway.

Pyaar · 16/07/2022 14:20

I've just done my first proper article for search sciences. It took longer than expected and I hope there's no/not many amends! But overall not too bad and luckily quite interesting.

I think if I get more familiar with this type of work though it will be worth it. I don't want to end up asking for more rug description work instead!!

Which job are you doing? (if you can say) I've just done an exam for them, took ages, and I failed by 3% 😥

Londoner256 · 16/07/2022 18:06

Thankyou @lem0njelly and @BecauseOfIndia , that is encouraging!

oh how annoying @AnotherOne4 , mine is internet assessor I believe? With Page quality and Needs met ratings

Maps Analyst. 3% oh no 😢

stillherenow · 16/07/2022 22:07

I've emailed Search sciences (yesterday) but no reply 😡

Anyone else still waiting for pay ?

BecauseOfIndia · 17/07/2022 10:31

@stillherenow I haven't been paid and have had no reply to my email either. Are you still working for them? I left in June so I'm wondering if that's why he isn't bothering to respond, he's possibly prioritising the people who are still working for him.

stillherenow · 17/07/2022 10:55

No I'm not working for them now either. Hmm

ruralwanderer · 17/07/2022 17:07

@Pyaar really pleased you're finding it interesting - I do too although the pay this month (for May's work) has taken a lot longer than usual to arrive.

@stillherenow and @BecauseOfIndia I hope you have been paid today or get paid tomorrow at the latest - this is the latest my pay has been from them but I've still got plenty of work in my queue so don't think it's an ongoing issue.

OP posts:
8DPWoah · 17/07/2022 21:21

See I've the opposite thing, I got paid in a timely fashion but haven't had any work since, I haven't missed the little stumpy jobs in some ways but I do like doing that work to break up transcription jobs. Although I'm doing a batch of focus groups with kids at the moment which is always good fun to listen to!

stillherenow · 17/07/2022 23:20

Not been paid today and it's not showing in my upcoming transactions. Will email again . I've got a horrible feeling I did all that sodding cushion work for nothing

BecauseOfIndia · 18/07/2022 08:22

@stillherenow I got a reply this morning - expect you did too? Really not happy, my invoice was tiny so his excuse doesn't ring true at all when others have been paid. It looks as though he is prioritising the people still working for him, which is wrong. To be told I 'might' be paid next month with the next round of invoices isn't helpful at all, not least because I have another small invoice due then. I won't let him get away with not paying me as that work was torture!!! 😩

stillherenow · 18/07/2022 08:58

Yes I'm absolutely fuming . Really glad I gave it up but whether he will ever pay is doubtful. What a pile of shit Z

stillherenow · 18/07/2022 08:59

I'll be sending daily emails come the end of the month. I have two more months to invoice as well. All for small amounts so I also do not believe him.

BecauseOfIndia · 18/07/2022 12:09

@stillherenow I'm glad I left now as well. I've taken a screen shot of the content report for June's work (unfortunately didn't do that for May). If he doesn't pay us in July for the May invoice he is in breach of his own payment terms. All I can say is that if he can't afford to pay my paltry invoice the business must seriously be in trouble!!
