ruralwanderer · 01/07/2022 08:02

I can't believe we're already more than halfway through the year. I hope those of you that are established £10 a Day-ers are still doing well, keeping motivated and chasing the £££s. Welcome to all the newbies - hopefully these threads will help you as much as they've helped me and many others.

For the newbies - I'd recommend grabbing a cup of tea and reading back through the previous threads before you sign up for anything. Most of your questions will have already been answered and you'll hit the ground running if you've already got an idea what this is all about.

I meant - if he doesn't pay us in August for May's work...

stillherenow · 18/07/2022 12:19

I can't get in now to submit my July invoice , luckily it's tiny.
I can't believe he's just not paying us !

I'm not going to let him get away with it! I hated the work and found it really time consuming for the pay rate. It took me away from other more lucrative jobs so I'm definitely getting the money due to me. I plan to send a letter before action if I don't get paid for both invoices in August, and then follow up with the small claims court. I don't care that it's such a small amount, it's the principle.

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 09:37

Yes I'm with you !

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 09:38

Also the line 'don't worry, we're not going anywhere'.... has been repeated throughout history from companies moments before they go under ..

stillherenow · 19/07/2022 14:23

If there is anyone else in the same boat re Search Sciences, it might be worth sending a joint letter in august if no pay, I wonder if it's possible to take joint action.

MoreMoneyPlease · 19/07/2022 18:28

@Londoner256 @AnotherOne4 I've had the guidelines for the Telus Mapping role open for a week now. I keep clicking on them and managing to read two lines before falling asleep. It's always easy to just search for the answers in Appen guidelines but I don't think that will work here!

If anyone fancies signing up for a Revolut card, please consider using my link - I stupidly advised my friend to get a card to take on holiday, watched her sign up and completely forgot about the referral reward until she'd been accepted 🙄 Very cross with myself! www.revolut.com/referral/jacquengc6

AnotherOne4 · 19/07/2022 19:35

@MoreMoneyPlease I just can't get on with Telus. I don't know why 🤔 I don't even know what job the maps is

ruralwanderer · 19/07/2022 22:42

I'm so sorry that you're having so much trouble getting paid for the work you've done and it doesn't bode well! I've got loads of work on with them and have been paid every month to date (this month later than usual) but maybe whoever does this thread for next month should remove them from the recommended list seeing as several of you have had trouble? Definitely follow it up as you did the work and are entitled to the pay for it!

I believe it is possible to do a joint claim, but it looks like everyone else was paid! Are we the only ones who decided to stop working for him? I don't think it's a coincidence that we haven't been paid and everyone else has...

@ruralwanderer I think you should remove the link. Basically his justification for not paying was that he couldn't afford to - there is no money in the bank apparently. If true, that doesn't bode well for the longevity of the company, but if it's not true then he isn't an honourable person full stop.

ruralwanderer · 20/07/2022 09:02

I don't think there's any way of editing the original post but if I start next month's thread then I shall remove the link. If someone else starts next month's post, hopefully they will see this and remove that link.

I personally will keep working for them as I enjoy the work and it's making up the bulk of my income (plus I have been paid every month) but cannot recommend them to others due to the payment issues you have experienced.

Name changed for this.

I also write for Search Sci, and have done for a few years - and I also haven't been paid for May. I was paid for April instead.....

This has happened a lot over the last couple of years. At its worst, I think I was owed 3 months' pay. I tend to react by not producing the articles - I write for one particular client who presumably gets antsy when they don't get their pieces - and that usually prompts some sort of payment.

I know it sounds ridiculous to be putting up with this but late payments as a freelance writer are sadly very common. S is not my worst offender, although he pays the lowest rates by far. However, I am increasingly concerned that the business model is becoming more akin to a pyramid selling scheme. As a result - and also after a quick look at their entries on Companies House - I'm also considering my options and may stop writing for them.

stillherenow · 20/07/2022 11:00

@AlsoUnhappy well that is at least encouraging that we may get paid eventually.

I think it's all the nicey nice emails he sent and then this that makes me cross, I prefer the rudeness of potatoes who are at least efficient

AlsoUnhappy · 20/07/2022 11:14

@stillherenow Yes, I'm pretty sure you will - not that it makes it much better, especially if you were counting on the money for current living expenses. Trouble is, as writers for these sort of agencies, we're obviously unsecured creditors and so will always rank lower in the list of Those Who Must Be Paid Now. I try to keep this fact in mind for whomever I write for and don't spend longer (in a £ sense) than I could bear to lose. So far - fingers crossed - S has always paid up but, as I implied, I'm not sure if he's going to remain in a position to be able to do so.

MoreMoneyPlease · 20/07/2022 12:49

@AnotherOne4 I'm exactly the same! At least with Appen I've got an idea of what they want, I can't understand this one at all!

Adelais · 20/07/2022 12:54

Has anyone cashed out with Prolific recently? I cashed out yesterday morning and a message came up briefly which I think said Couldn’t connect to PayPal or similar. The payment has gone from my balance and says payment pending next to cash out but still haven’t received it to PayPal.
Its strange cos it’s normally instant?

I have heard that they are having problems at the moment with processing cash outs.
I'll pm you if that's okay.

Redcrayons · 20/07/2022 13:09

I’ve got a cash out pending since yesterday with Prolific.

JLbaby · 20/07/2022 13:50

Yes also having the same issue with prolific, hasn't happened before!

PoseyFlump · 20/07/2022 14:14

I've got a fair bit in prolific. Is it worth waiting before I cash out? Didn't this happen a while ago too?

stillherenow · 20/07/2022 15:21

Yes I've got one pending too, I cash out as it reaches £5 each time so not too worried, but I'm not doing anymore surveys til it's resolved .

Frenchdoors1 · 20/07/2022 15:29

@stillherenow

I what you mean about not doing anymore.

There's a message on the app now explaining if you haven't checked.

Graphista · 20/07/2022 15:42

Worked through the thread and I've posted on other threads meaning to do this but now can't find the threads I posted on (why are mn search functions so awfully bad?!)

Probably did my usual thing of running before I could walk!

Joined Appen etc and getting emails from them but I think I'm out of my depth as I look at the tasks/jobs and don't understand what they're asking for a lot of the time though when I take a breath and think I've got a better idea I think but I haven't the confidence to apply. Should I delete my profiles for now? Do I need to just go in at the deep end or is there other advice you guys can give?

I've another thread posted on returning to work section too.

I urgently need to increase income with the cost of living rises on the horizon and a dd in uni I think I may be panicking slightly which is throwing me?

Help!

Redcrayons · 20/07/2022 17:23

@Graphista Have you been accepted to any Appen jobs yet?

the advice on here is usually apply for everything that you can feasibly do. Most of them go nowhere and if you do get accepted there’s usually loads of training and a chat room to ask questions. Even if you do get accepted you don’t actually have to do it. There’s some FB surveys on there worth Around £5 a week. Course not loads of money but they couldn’t be easier.

have you signed up to all the survey sites and apps?

i think it’s important to have a number of micro projects on the go at the same time in case something dries up suddenly.
