Oodie

cafedesreves · 08/03/2022 19:34

I cannot put this under style and beauty as an Oodie is neither stylish nor beautiful 😂 but I'm utterly horrified by our energy costs and am wondering whether to buy an Oodie. Obviously I don't have a spare £60 so was wondering if anyone has any good leads for knock offs? I want to feel wonderfully snug without the heating on ideally!

We can see this thread is a little old, but if you’ve landed here looking for current Oodie alternatives, including more budget-friendly recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best blanket hoodie page with lots of great options, as rated and loved by Mumsnet users. We hope it helps Flowers

Are they much different to just putting a dressing gown on?

Thanks! Still can't find cheaper than £59 but will look on eBay.

Costco do a version called the Comfy, currently £29.99 I think. Also available on Amazon for slightly more. I love mine, I’ve seen/felt an oodie and think they’re similar quality.

Primark did a version that was much poorer quality/thickness.

gaggiagirl · 08/03/2022 19:43

My DD has an official oodie and I have a Primark knock off. They are different the oodie is much thicker and heavier. My Primark one really keeps me toastie though. I'm a very cold person and for £18 it does the trick.
They are different from a dressing gown as their is no opening at the front and you can fold your legs into it while sitting as they are quite long.

@Movingonup22 life changing how?

I have this one from Amazon. It is super warm. Was a bit sceptical because it was cheaper but I have honestly worn it every day since I had it for Christmas! It's surprising thick and washes well too. I can happily sit in it whilst by my desk and have the heating off 😁

Movingonup22 · 08/03/2022 19:47

@AnnoyedByAlfieBear - when you're in your Oodie you're in your own little happy cosy world where nothing bad can ever happen.

Alfie Bear wouldn't have a chance of annoying you.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 08/03/2022 19:48

I 100% recommend getting one! Dh got my a cheaper knock off for my birthday last year off amazon (Deal: Seogva Oversized Sherpa Hoodie, Wearable Hoodie Sweatshirt Blanket, Super Soft Warm Comfortable Blanket Hoodie, One Size Fits All, Men, Women, Girls, Boys, Friends www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B081Z7ZH73/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_dl_Y6075X1H7N3R8Y18SBDJ?psc=1)&tag=mumsnetforu03-21 its not as thick as the oodie, but still as comfy.

Funnily he wears it more than I do, so mil got him his own for Christmas too (his is a slouchy) is much thicker than mine and is 100% recommend it (www.slouchy.com/collections/adult-slouchies)

Movingonup22 · 08/03/2022 19:48

I think you can get a discount on top of the £59 current sale price - email the customer service and ask maybe?

Movingonup22 · 08/03/2022 19:48

I went outside in the garden in mine at 11pm last night and was warm as toast

StarsAndSugarlumps · 08/03/2022 19:49

I got this one for DH and it’s really soft, warm and nice

GeneLovesJezebel · 08/03/2022 19:50

Get some fluffy socks and PJ’s from Primark. Mine are usually warm enough in them , the Oodie comes out if it’s really cold.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 08/03/2022 19:51

Highly recommend the Comfy from Costco. Bought all the kids one for Xmas. Big & cosy. Perfect.

1984Winston · 08/03/2022 19:51

I just bought a fake one for £15, it's awesome! I got one for the same reason, I won't have to put the heating on when I'm working from home

wearingtheT · 08/03/2022 19:51

we have three Primark ones, the mens playstation one is incredibly thick and very well made. the ladies version not so well made, but still fabulously warm. I think the playstation one was about £7 more.

I have a full length thick fleece dressing gown, just as warm.

I wouldn't buy a branded one tbh.

grannyjacob · 08/03/2022 19:54

I got a cheapo version for a gift two years ago, thought it was wonderful, wore it a lot, bought another one myself. Then, just before Christmas past, I bought myself an Oodie.
There’s a huge difference between it and the cheapo. It’s longer, wider, the sleeves have proper cuffs, and it’s made up of two separate layers rather than just one. I cut right back on the heating, still had to take it off some days if it was sunny as I was just too hot.
Only criticism I have is, it came vacuum packed, and they say to wash it before wearing it to get the full benefit. It took nearly three days for it to dry indoors (was raining, else I would have hung it out)(also says not to tumble dry it, but I know someone who has and Oodie survived), it was the cuffs and the huge hood that took the longest. Overall,
I would definitely recommend an Oodie.

BIWI · 08/03/2022 19:59

What I don't get about those is why they're not full length?

sanityisamyth · 08/03/2022 20:01

I did exactly this about 6 months ago. I can't afford our electric heaters (they trebled my bill) so we just wear our Oodies if it's cold. They're amazing!

RealRaymondReddington · 08/03/2022 20:01

Mine are from Online Home Shop which was recommended to me on here last year, super cheap and really warm.

cafedesreves · 08/03/2022 20:02

Aah you're all making me want one. Would 2nd hand be ok do you think?

OP posts:
WotgunShedding · 08/03/2022 20:04

If you can find 5 other people who want one, I think they do a deal for 6 which is much more reasonable.

Newnormal99 · 08/03/2022 20:04

My daughter has a 'Siena' knock off and a real one. I have to say the real one is definitely thicker and heavier. Although both will keep you warm.

Thy do do deals - I got 2 for £90 I think last year - only a choice of 4 designs though.
