@stillherenow it’s not like prolific in that you wait till something arrives. There’s always content in the queue and you can dip in and out. Volumes of work vary massively throughout the day and it’s generally unpredictable.

It’s hard to describe when you haven’t seen the tool.

stillherenow · 25/03/2022 18:26

@Redcrayons ok thanks hopefully I can get started soon.

bananamuffin99 · 26/03/2022 10:05

How do you go about getting shift work on potato? Is it set shifts each week or can you pick what hours you can do, as set shifts wouldn't suit me really. I've been on it for over 2 years now but sometimes I think is it worth it as I really struggle sometimes to find the time between working and looking after a very active toddler. But then I tell myself even though I usually only make 30-40 pm it at least helps out.

ruralwanderer · 26/03/2022 12:54

They send emails out when shifts are available and they tend to be an hour long (you get the odd half hour one but they're few and far between). It's just a case of keeping an eye on Slack and your inbox :)

@Worriedmumma85

Hi everyone. Appen users…am I doing something wrong or is there just no work? I’ve got the website on all the time and am refreshing but there are never any tasks to complete? How am I supposed to up my levels if there is no work? Now beginning to wonder if I’ve done something wrong?
How do you mean by up your levels? Is it for a specific App project? The main Appen front-page is like a marketplace for projects and doesn't get updated very often (and you'll get a billion emails telling you all about any new project generally too).

@AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter

Hi everyone, Im so sorry if this has already been asked/mentioned on this thread, I'm still working my way through it.

Im looking for some bits that I can do on maternity leave. Ideally where I don't have to virtually speak to anyone/talk on the phone as I hate that! I normally work as a executive assistant for the NHS. I have skills in customer care, change management, diary management, transcription...

Can anyone advise me where to go next? Thanks so much! Smile

The best thing is to plod your way though looking at all the links on the first message in the thread but if you've got experience in transcription that strikes me as a good place for you personally. Rev is pretty quick to get approved for, Way With Words is quite an arduous application process but they are a lovely small company to deal with. Don't know if they are recruiting at the moment but they most likely are or will be soon as there's loads of work on their portal at the moment. I could easily do several hours a day if it weren't for two pesky small children wanting my eyes and ears 😂 Pay for transcription isn't amazing but it's reliable and flexible and generally interesting too as a bonus, I do a few different things, also started on mat leave, and transcription is definitely my favourite of my little portfolio. If you're experienced in it you'll likely find it easy too!

furmumma · 29/03/2022 16:26

Hi! New to this, does anyone have and recommendation links for just starting out and working around a full time job?

ruralwanderer · 29/03/2022 17:05

@furmumma, as above, check through the links on the first page, sign up for anything that floats your boat and see what comes to fruition first. The survey sites like prolific are generally the quickest to get started with. Good luck.

OkyDoke · 30/03/2022 12:58

Hello! I found this thread recently and totally new to all this, thank you, firstly for all the useful info 😊.

I’ve become increasingly worried about all the rising costs and being on maternity leave and not earning a great deal I would love to earn a bit extra to help.

I have so far signed up for Crisp (having FINALLY got 20!), Appen, uTest, Intellizoom and Rev.

@rhij86 and anyone else who can help, I do have a few questions:

  1. With intellizoom, I tried the test and there’s a lot of video and recording which I am not totally comfortable with, is it safe?? And if I want to decline the recording ones are there others that I can make money with?
  1. Appen hasn’t given me any jobs and I’ve been signed up for days, the ‘jobs’ section is still empty, have I done something wrong?
  1. UTest I haven’t done much with yet but again is it safe? They can’t remotely access my computer during the tests?

Many Thanks!!

JLbaby · 30/03/2022 14:38

@Dogmum20 I know you didn’t ask me but I can answer regarding Intellizoom - I have done loads of their tests and always been paid (3 weeks later). The non recording ones are the card sorts which I don’t find come up very often. Never had any problems with the recording ones, I think they’re just recording your voice and screen.

ruralwanderer · 30/03/2022 15:40

@DogMum20, all the companies listed on this thread are safe. Those that collect personal information do so purely to understand your demographic information to target you with the appropriate research, surveys, etc. Hope this helps :)

stillherenow · 31/03/2022 12:45

On potatoes, are the surges just when there's a lot of content in the queue or do they pay extra ?

Loopyteddy · 31/03/2022 13:32

Hi long time lurker on these threads although I have posted a dying times. I have finally been accepted onto potatoes after 2 years of waiting! Im still waiting for my logins but I'm a bit lost at how to invoice (when I need to) is it easy to do?

Loopyteddy · 31/03/2022 14:25

Sorry I have posted a couple of times! I don't know what happened with that autocorrect

Really easy. Either straight from PayPal or you send them an invoice. You can use a big standard template from word. This is covered in the training.
AnotherOne4 · 31/03/2022 17:44

@Dogmum20 are you on the correct Appen site? You need Appen Connect.

PersianStar · 31/03/2022 19:59

Hi has anyone done the s*ford job on appen? The one with the glasses? I have just been excepted and had a quick skim of the guidelines in between dealing with children and just wondered how easy/hard it actually is? Cheers

PersianStar · 31/03/2022 20:00

Accepted not excepted… it’s been a long day!!

Dogmum20 · 31/03/2022 21:59

@AnotherOne4 thank you!! I don’t know what I had access to but it wasn’t the correct place, I had signed up to the correct Appen but was on some sort of other dashboard…

TheFoldOx · 31/03/2022 23:57

At the end of the month, I've managed £66.50 through Qmee, and a very pleasing £148.42 through Prolific. My 20Cogs should come in in the next few days, which should add a decent amount too.

ruralwanderer · 01/04/2022 07:15

Just done a quick tally up for March and I have smashed my £250 target! :D So pleased and feeling really motivated now. I earnt £385.54 (ish - the American income may not convert as well as I'd like).

Crisp - £144.13
Appen - $62.15
Search Sciences - £80
Prolific - £36
Intellizoom - $44
Exam invigilating at a local college for a few hours - £44.55
