Thanks for the thread - always useful.

@wolf1970, I’ll assume that didn’t come across well in text and you didn’t mean to be so rude? I have been working for Appen on a number of different jobs since 2019 so know fairly well how it works thanks.

The reason I was asking is because jobs that are listed on there have often finished, don’t have work available or state hour requirements which don’t actually match up in terms of work provided. I was hoping for recommendations of jobs which currently have work or a “don’t bother with ” that’s just finished”. I’d rather not apply for all 64 jobs in my list if I don’t have to.

And you absolutely can pick and choose, that’s the whole point of them showing the requirements so you choose what you can do.

Wolf1970 · 14/01/2022 11:06

@Tinging sorry not intentional.

Tinging · 14/01/2022 11:06

@Catatemyhomework just checked my Telus payment and they haven’t withdrawn anything and I’ve never had that before either. I think there is a £6 bank handling charge which used to show but now seems to come off automatically at their end.

justalittlebitextra · 14/01/2022 11:12

@Wolf1970 that's what I did when I set up my Payoneer stuff as well. It's such an odd requirement as there are loads of self-employed people who don't have a website (DH for one).

I'm a bit grumpy now as I've just noticed that even though I earnt more in $ last month than the month before, I've actually been paid less in £, presumably because of exchange rate fluctuations. I know it's par for the course, but still irritating.

Tinging · 14/01/2022 11:14

@Wolf1970 no problem, thank you.

Wolf1970 · 14/01/2022 11:17

Thanks @justalittlebitextra
I set up Payoneer in June 2019 verified with my passport and forgot all about the questionnaire. Just myself to blame.

Yes the exchange rates are really annoying. I hope for some crisis that affects the exchange rate in my favour each month!

Catatemyhomework · 14/01/2022 11:25

@Tinging, thanks, I've asked the question in questions on Telus. Hope to hear back. Are you SEE on Telus or Maps? I'm maps and never make my 10 hours a week as I also do Y on Appen. Just thought if you do maps on LB you could do Y on Appen too. It's 10hours a week minimum but you pick and choose your hours. I have never been told off for doing less than 10 on LB. Obviously if you are SEE on LB you can't doY on Appen as it's the same project and client.

YonderTweek · 14/01/2022 11:27

Grr I've not been paid by Ap yet even though the invoice says Paid...

Tinging · 14/01/2022 11:39

@Catatemyhomework ahh brill thanks for that. I am on maps and I’ve never been told off for not doing my hours either. Do you get warnings if you don’t make the hours on Y? I’m guessing yes as with other Appen stuff? I’ve been making really good hourly rates on Telus but I worry about having all my eggs in one basket!

Wolf1970 · 14/01/2022 12:22

@YonderTweek
Check Payoneer. I had a verification that I had overlooked.

Catatemyhomework · 14/01/2022 13:36

@Tinging, yes Y is very strict about making your 10 minimum but I rarely do more. Due to this I have let maps slide a bit and sometimes haven't done more than an hour a week and they seem ok with it. Y is good though as if you can fit in 10 hours a week it's pretty consistent and a nice little earner. The exam is a pain but if you can pass maps you can pass Y.

Thanks. I did a couple of times today but it's a big fat 0. Sad I'll have to chase this. Boo!

YonderTweek · 14/01/2022 14:17

Ahh, I misread your message Wolf. I have now found the verification centre and uploaded the required documents. What a faff. I hope they sort it soon.

Tinging · 14/01/2022 14:24

@Catatemyhomework that’s really helpful thanks, I’ll check out Y!

cannotfindanickname · 14/01/2022 14:48

I signed up for Appen but the only job I have been sent at the moment is in Spanish. and my Spanish is not good enough to attempt it. Is this normal? (I didn't put that I spoke any language other than English).

Wolf1970 · 14/01/2022 14:56

@YonderTweek
It might me worth giving their call centre a ring (Payoneer) and seeing if they can do anything to hurry it up. Woman I spoke to was going to send a note to the team dealing with it. Though that may have been to fob me off. The number is: 0203 608 0610.

nutty123 · 14/01/2022 15:57

@cannotfindanickname I have that same problem too. Just signed up and the only job I can see is in Spanish. Not sure if I have done something wrong somewhere?

Wolf1970 · 14/01/2022 16:07

Are you on the right Appen? You need Appen Connect.

PigeonPigPie · 14/01/2022 16:17

Log out and check your email - there will be a link to complete the next step of registration. I signed up today and this happened to me too at first but now it's working as normal :)
cannotfindanickname · 14/01/2022 23:57

Thank you. I will try that.

Wolf1970 · 16/01/2022 11:04

Finally got my payment through this morning. Hope yours was sorted @YonderTweek

Nepenthe · 16/01/2022 16:44

Just did the test for Crisp, and scored 19/20 this time, so I'm on the waiting list at least. (Anyone know how long is usual to wait?)

I've reinstated my account at Appen - hope it's the right one, there seems to be loads - there are four projects listed, and three of them are linguistics, so unlikely I'll be able to do those.

Got signed up with Clickworker, and sent verification docs.

Hopefully I can start earning!
