Happy new year everyone.

This £10 a day turned into my full time job last year. I'm so grateful to @ottersea for starting it all.

Mackmama · 04/01/2022 21:56

How do you get to do surveys on Appen please? I’ve just joined and been offered a few projects that involve videos and stuff but I’ve seen surveys mentioned and I’ve not seen any to apply for so I’m not sure if I’m looking in the wrong place.

rhij86 · 04/01/2022 22:04

@AdaShelby which projects/clients do you work for if you are able to share that? :)
rhij86 · 04/01/2022 22:05

Also, can anyone who works for Rev/WWW shed a bit of light on whether it's worth doing?

Wolf1970 · 04/01/2022 22:26

@Mackmama

They are three projects beginning with ‘N’. I can’t say for certain if they are accepting new raters.

Also they are only once or twice a week so not terribly lucrative (bear in mind that the minimum payout for Payoneer is $50 and there is a $5 admin fee).

Maybe a reasonable starting point to start
Appen work or add on to other projects, not very lucrative in themselves.

Mackmama · 04/01/2022 22:33

Ah right, yes, I think I’ve applied for those projects.

Thanks for the tip about the invoicing @Wolf1970 I’m new to all this.

I’m not hoping to make loads and I haven’t got time to do loads but a bit of extra cash is always useful so I’m enjoying trying to navigate it all.

Rhubarblin · 04/01/2022 22:34

I really appreciate this thread, loads of great info. I've done LB in the past.

I've just joined Appen, when I applied for some of the survey projects...names begin with N...it asked if I work for/as an 'SEE', I don't do this but it wouldn't let me proceed without filling in the box with a company name for this so I cancelled the first one but now that listing has disappeared obviously. The 2nd time I just wrote N/A in the box on another project. I'm now waiting to see if I'm approved, although the listing was about a survey and then the information came up about doing a qualification. I'm so confused, have I broken it? What are you supposed to put in the mandatory SEE box?

8dpwoah · 04/01/2022 23:35

@rhij86 I'm a big fan of WWW, not because it's particularly lucrative (I barely hit minimum wage but it suits me in many other ways so definitely better than nothing) but because it feels like a proper little job. There was absolutely stacks of work on there in December as well so I think prob a good time to give it a whirl if you've got time and headspace to do the tests. I didn't get on so well with Rev but suspect that's because I was used to WWW style etc when I applied, I'm on it but I rarely even look now.

Y is still terrifying and there isn't a huge amount of work on there but I really need to do an hour a day on that and Og if at all possible for the next 6 months, I have a target and a deadline! Og is well worth a look for newbies as it's an easy hour a day and it's consistent. It's not very interesting but it could be much worse! But I'll get kicked off in July (only lasts a year) and no doubt will miss it when it's gone.

8dpwoah · 04/01/2022 23:36

Thanks for the thread too @ruralwanderer, I didn't even notice we were still on December 😂

fandangofandango · 05/01/2022 06:25

What is WWW?

8dpwoah · 05/01/2022 08:47

Way with words, transcription company. There's s link to them on the first post of the thread, and for Rev which is the other transcription company that a lot of is are on. Appen also has transcription projects but I've never done one for them!

rhij86 · 05/01/2022 08:47

@fandangofandango

What is WWW?
way with words - it's a transcription site
fandangofandango · 05/01/2022 09:02

Thank you! I'll have a look :)

Janjan22 · 05/01/2022 09:25

This looks interesting..could someone with no experience do the above? I’ll be honest I’m not sure what some of them even are?! What’s Appen for example please? X

justalittlebitextra · 05/01/2022 09:39

Hi everyone - I had a good December (c. £800) but work has dried up one of my A*n projects. I've still got N*e for a few months, but would like a couple more to supplement. I do have the Y**n exam in the pipeline, and will probably get round to that in the next couple of weeks when I have a better idea of what is going to happen with schools.

I've never got onto the FB surveys on Ap - I apply every time I drop off the applications, but never hear more. I've just done a whole round of applications again, so hopefully I'll hear something back from one of them.

ruralwanderer · 05/01/2022 12:29

@Janjan22 Appen is a company which offers a range of different projects for freelancers to work on. Your best bet is to spend a morning visiting the links in the opening post to see what takes your fancy and best fits with your skills and availability. We always say to apply for more than you think as some won't come off and some will but only in time. Good luck Smile

Hello and happy new year everyone. :)

I haven't been on here for a fair few months (different name) as it all got a bit too much to commit to with toddlers to look after as well as the day job.

I've kept up with the odd thing on Prolific but need to dip back into App I think. Noticed people mentioning the N jobs so willl definitely check those out. Any others worth prioritising?

mrsrobin · 05/01/2022 16:23

Appen project finished which is a shame as I liked doing it. Trying to get on Way With Words but failed the audio test twice - I am good at grammar and can't understand why I can't pass it!
Does anyone do any transcribing for any other British English sites?
Have a good January everyone! Mine is not off to a good start!

CherryBlossom100 · 05/01/2022 19:38

Hi everyone. Have applied for loads on appen but not been accepted onto anything yet. I did the application for rev just after Xmas but haven't heard back yet. Next step is www. Any other suggestions or is it a wait and see? Thanks for all the support.

AnotherOne4 · 05/01/2022 20:27

@CherryBlossom100 (unfortunately) Alot of it is wait and see. Ap can be hit or miss. Just keep applying and you'll get something eventually. I've been on for about a year, and still waiting for a long term project. (I always find it strange that we all get offered different jobs too. People on here are mentioning the Y job, but I don't have that yet)

Wolf1970 · 06/01/2022 08:09

I just noticed that the Clickworker ‘robot eyes’ job is now paid at €12.50 rather than €15.00 which really pissed me off!

Gatekeeper · 06/01/2022 13:01

Happy New Year everyone

Just got email yesterday that T*s have removed me from the rating project after only two months as they have enough info from me.. Bums!
That was a nice easy hour a day and paid well. Thought I'd be on there for a year Sad

mrsrobin · 06/01/2022 13:16

Yes how annoying. Maybe it is because they didn't include the usual survey....
Adelais · 06/01/2022 14:03

@Wolf1970 I noticed that too. I suppose €12.50 is still good as usually take me no more than 30 mins.

Potato seems to have gone quiet again ☹️

rhij86 · 06/01/2022 14:04

@Adelais it's been slow for a couple of days but it's actually unworkable today!
