I think it takes about a week to update then reverts back to normal.

spongedog · 31/08/2021 20:29

Yes I do. I was contacted by HMRC in early 2021 to ask if my then 15 would be staying in full time education. I replied yes and received an email to confirm.

In August I received my tax credits letters - confirmation of 20-21 and provisional 21-22. I noticed that finished at 31/8/2021. So contacted them by web chats.

Eventually they conceded that although I had correctly advised what turned out to be Child Benefit, apparently that exact same declaration wasn't transferred to Tax Credits. No amount of me stating it was the identical declaration to the SAME organization had any impact. They accepted the declaration, but if I hadn't spotted the strange date on the forms I would have been totally fucked. I qualify for tax credits but not universal credits, so I cannot afford for my tax credits to end.

I will complain as it is absolutely unacceptable to me that the organisation relies on muddling and confusion to end payments. Please complain yourself.

Same situation here, although ours is because our dd is off to university so we know we will lose her from the claim etc. I rang to ask and they said the payments won’t show yet but will be altered and will continue as normal…. (Although less in our case). I hope that is the case! It’s unnerving not seeing any more payments online!

Babyroobs · 31/08/2021 20:54

Both Tax credits and child benefit need to be notified separately. Child benefit usually send a form asking which school/ college your child will be continuing to study at.

Yes but it isnt clear at all that is the requirement from the same institution that I need to notify 2 departments. I seriously am a professional who reads small print #dullataparty Nowhere does it say on my Spring 2021 notification from HMRC that it is only Child Benefit who is being notified. I am annoyed and angered, but sadly not surprised.

If I had less literacy or a learning need I might not have spotted by total chance that the dates didnt seem correct.

Thankyou , it was just a bit gut wrenching seeing No Payments Due. She is my eldest child so first time I've been through this . I did inform CB and TC separately but did them both on my gov account. Do you know if it means I'll be without a payment for a week ? Maybe I should give them a call , thought idle ask on here first as I know calling them can take so long to get through 🙄

Very unnerving to say the least , especially with the cost of college equipment Shock

I’ve kept the screenshots of when I updated staying at school, hopefully it won’t lead to a battle!

I got fed up of waiting and rang the Child Benefit Office. If anyone else is thinking of doing this p!ease have your N I number to hand. I didnt, and got reprimanded
My situation is abit different as my 16 year old has been home schooled last two years and his exams have been put back to Autumn due to Covid.
Anyway they got back to me within a few minutes, saying they would extend it, which is a relief.

Imgladyoulikedit · 31/08/2021 22:55

I called them today regarding something else and there was a message on there before I could get through to anyone regarding if you've notified them of your child staying in education, it said something along the lines of it not showing yet in your account but you will be paid (by 1st sep?) - I didn't take much notice as it wasn't relevant to me but might be worth calling tomorrow so you can hear the message.

2004bestyear · 01/09/2021 07:39

This is my online account this morning..the message when you phone is still saying payments should be sorted by the 1st and there is no need to speak to an advisor

I've just called and heard the same message , my online account is still showing the same as yesterday, but my daughters name has been removed ? It's so frustrating, I'm such a worrier with things like this , college next week and still lots to get arghhhh!!

I agree its the not knowing. I'm due a payment on Friday, worried now it's going to be delayed.

TieryEyedBandit · 01/09/2021 12:02

Same thing happened to me. Checked my bank this AM and saw I had only been paid a reduced amount of working tax (and child benefit) so logged onto the Tax Credit website and see my DD has been taken off my claim completely. This is despite informing HMRC online for both child tax and benefit.

I tried phoning as web chat wasnt available and just got the recorded messages about them updating child tax claims. I re-added DD to my claim online and just hope I havent muddied the waters now. Says 2 weeks to be updated, so at least 2 weeks of reduced income... its going to sting.

NGL I think they make it this insufferable on purpose.

Bollindger · 01/09/2021 12:05

You can go online and add your DD back to your claim, this will then be paid plus any outstanding payments.

H1978 · 01/09/2021 15:49

I was having this same issue. HMRC require a letter from the school as proof that your child is staying in full time education. Royal Mail lost mine so I have to wait until next week to get another letter and hope it reaches them. I asked if I could email it over and they said it wasn’t secure enough , they need the actual letter. My daughter has also had her name removed from my claim. So frustrating as I never had to do this with my eldest.

H1978 · 01/09/2021 15:51

I updated child benefit via web chat a few days ago. Got confirmation letter today. Not sure why tax credits can’t do that. Hmm

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 01/09/2021 15:55

I updated them ages ago, both of them. Said things were cHanging due to my child changing education - nope just staying at schooo as 16 and I did let them know. So it’s said it’ll be done by 6 sept and had nothing after the last payment last Wednesday and up popped the next 3 months last night thank goodness as I was panicking too. It’ll come just give them time to process although if it’s staging the same I don’t know why it needs to take long. Bad enough housing benefit has taken since 5 aug to change my hb as we moved so I’ve no idea how much rent I’m to pay and as it renews every Monday it’ll be 5 weeks next week so they’d better sort that as I really like to know where I am so I can pay/budget. Hope it’s quick for everyone

Tinkerbellfluffyboots79 · 01/09/2021 15:56

I didn’t provide a letter from school & I didn’t for my older son either he’s now 20

2004bestyear · 01/09/2021 17:15

FFS the voice message when you ring them is now saying payments will be updated in the 1st week of September...so could take another week. Doesn't look like I'm getting my normal payment on Friday then Angry
