Agt the other end of the scale I bought my daughter a lap topin 2002 when she turned 18. It was 1700 in those days which is about £2600 now!!! We also had our Amstrad PCW stolen in the 1990s. Luckily it was found as the thief had put it in our wheelbarrow and was wheeling it down the street with one of my dresses. That cost thousands of pounds. Today things ilke lap tops are cheaper even allowing for inflation. I usppose tech has got mass produced so is cheaper.
Contrast that with my university rent in Manchester in 1982 and that is today after allowing for inflation 3x the price for exactly the same room so certainly there is a massive mark up on that compared with 1982. That is after I have used the bank of England inflation calculator.
University fees - my uncle paid the equivalent of what is now £9k in 1936 for Durham to read medicine (or rather his parents paid) and today Durham's fees are £9250 - that amazed me that university fees for those who do not take out loans are the same once inflation allowed for.
