Dominoes Pizza 100%

Domino’s Pizza 100%
This is interesting to me because almost all food seems to be cheaper in the UK compared to Australia, except this. Domino’s is cheap here. Well, the ones I buy are. They do $5 pizzas for pick-up which is £2.50. That’s for ham and cheese, beef and red onion, basic ones.

A gin & tonic at the Park Lane Hilton. £26.
😱😱😱

CorianderLord · 22/02/2020 02:58

Corned beef. It's about £3 a tin!

Train tickets. Lego. DD + bras. Greetings cards. Batteries.

HeronLanyon · 22/02/2020 03:10

Long distance train tickets in U.K. absolutely ridiculous prices especially if you dare do anything spontaneous and haven’t booked three months in advance etc.
Coffee shops - big chains esp.
Football tickeTs
higher education.
Good tomatoes.
Crisps - especially given how small single packets are !
‘Artisan’ anything - bread in particular.
Plumbers and locksmiths.
Many perfumes.

TalaxuArmiuna · 22/02/2020 03:19

sofas.

the reason they cost so much is because there are no economies of scale.

the reason there are no economies of scale is because there are thousands of possible choices, an overwhelming array that makes buying one an utter nightmare.

obviously we need some choice but you could cut the number of available designs to a tenth of what it currently is and prices could fall significantly whilst still maintaining the same percentage profit.

@PenelopeFlintstone

I've just googled Dominos menu and a 13.5 inch pizza is between £15.99 to £19.99. They do have various deals like a medium pizza, a side of garlic bread and wedges and a 500ml drink for £14.99 but even that is massively overpriced in my opinion.

PenelopeFlintstone · 22/02/2020 05:33

Hi GingerKittyKat
Last night I bought 3 Value pizzas. It doesn’t say the size but they were $5 each, although one child wanted stuffed crust which was $3.50ish extra Confused. So I paid $18.50ish for 3, so about £9.
On the other hand when MNetrers suggest supplementing mince with mushrooms to save money, it doesn’t work for me as mushrooms are more expensive than mince Grin

Anything Drew Pritchard sells.

InMySpareTime · 22/02/2020 06:52

Takeaway tea. It's just a tea bag and boiling water. I begrudge paying £2 for that, especially when it's coffee machine water (85 degrees, not warm enough to make tea) and a tea bag plonked on the side.
Bottled water.
Scones.

BorneoBabe · 22/02/2020 06:55

Fizzy drinks like coke. Especially in the 500 ml bottles.

BillywigSting · 22/02/2020 07:00

Lots of designer/high end make up and skincare. (not all of it mind you some of it is worth the price tag)

Agree re trades. Will include hairdressers in that. I expect to pay more for something like a colour or restyle as the time and skills involved are more but not just a basic trim.

Chain food/coffee /cinema stuff

Gas and electricity

okiedokieme · 22/02/2020 07:01

Trains, petrol.

Other stuff is really cheap here like food, eating out (well that's variable but I have places nearby you get change from £10 for 2), own brand medicines, san pro etc very cheap compared to much of Europe.

BikeRunSki · 22/02/2020 07:01

A gin & tonic at the Park Lane Hilton. £26.

But you are not really paying for the G&T, you are paying for the ambience of the Park Lane Hilton.

All these things, you’re not paying for the raw ingredients, you’re paying for having the product there and then - water, tea, food away from home; Pizza without having to cook.

InMySpareTime · 22/02/2020 07:23

With tea, I mostly object to the differential markup compared to other hot drinks.
Black Tea (basic ingredient cost about 2p) should be considerably cheaper than e.g. hot chocolate, fiddly coffees etc (basic ingredient cost 20-50p), especially given the person serving it takes very little comparative time and effort to create it.

Handsnotwands · 22/02/2020 07:26

Shoes / boots and especially wellies

itsallamysterytome · 22/02/2020 07:34

A cup of tea in a cafe
Swimming at the local pool
A no frills funeral
Branded polo shirts, it's just a polo shirt with a name stitched on it DS
Attraction, theatre or gig tickets
Train fares

I can't think about how much they cost I have to just hand the money over.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 22/02/2020 07:37

Ground rent. I own my flat and have to pay an extortionate sum to rent the ground it sits on.
