Dishwasher tablets

BarbaraofSeville · 22/02/2020 17:12

Most of the things mentioned you can do cheaper. For example, if you need a prescription for two items, you can pay £10 a month for a prepay card which covers as many prescriptions as you need.

Branded dishwasher tablets are expensive which is why I don't understand why people buy them when aldi and lidl version are just as good for a quarter of the price.

Most airports have water fountains, just take your own refillable bottle and consult wateratairports.com

Coffee from Greggs or McDonald's is half the price of the coffee chains and just as good.

But I agree that spirits, cocktails and wine in pubs and bars is ridiculously priced which is why I generally stick to lager, which works out cheaper.

Pizza without having to cook

Doesn't equate here. I can have Chinese takeaway delivered for three of us which is way more food, for about half the price of three delivered pizzas. That's nothing to do with paying extra for convenience.

MintyMabel · 22/02/2020 18:03

@bigbluebus

Yes! Ridiculous how much extra we have to pay for anything for DD.

BarbaraofSeville · 22/02/2020 18:03

Non alcoholic drinks in pubs

God yes, they wanted three fucking quid for a coke in some nasty chain pub I had my lunch at a couple of weeks ago (nothing else for miles around and I was starving). I was Shock.

I used to get lime and soda for about 60 pence until they filled it all with sweeteners. It's enough to drive you to drink.

lovelyupnorth · 22/02/2020 18:05

Pretty much everything we buy is over priced. But then we keep pushing up the costs of running business and employing people.

ANiceLuxury · 22/02/2020 18:11

Bras from bravissimo
Car dealer servicing and repairs
Apple products

Hairdressers when having a colour

Anything made from paper particularly greetings cards.

CalleighDoodle · 22/02/2020 19:40

Oh god yes the hairdressers. Last year after changing hairdressers as mine moved, i sat down and the hairdresser took a chunk of my hair off, then she asked if id had a quote! Then gave me one. I nearly cried.

Iwantacookie · 22/02/2020 19:51

Fruit and veg, cinema, cinema food, insurance, public transport.
Yy to non alcoholic drinks in pubs. Bring back the designated driver scheme so I can have my orange juice for £1.

Birthday cards!
The shop near me in London only has one which is less than £4.
£4 for a simple card - not a handcrafted one or anything.

user1497207191 · 22/02/2020 20:03

Scaffolding

We couldn't get a quote less than £2500 for a small 3 bed house. We ended up with over 10 firms giving quotes - remarkably all about the same. Must be some kind of cartel going on. Whoever said that having lots of firms competing drives down prices is wrong.

Bras (if you need an unusual size so can only go to bravissimo or online) £40 bloody quid each and the wires still poke in after a couple of wears!

Gym membership £38 a month for the council leisure centre, or it’s £5.50 per class if you’re a non-member, so to get your money’s worth you need to go to 2 classes per week, every week. And you still have to pay for the car park.

BuggerOffAndGoodDayToYou · 22/02/2020 20:39

U.K. holidays!

Just booked a week self catering in the Lake District for the Easter Holidays. Two bedrooms. Well over £1000! But that is standard sort of price. I also have two weeks booked near Bordeaux in August. Three bedrooms, two bathrooms, private swimming pool and large garden, lovely big gite. £2000 for the two weeks.
