Still going strong here at bot watch HQ on MN!

Botwatch on Wordpress and on Facebook

Timeless Vie on Wordpress and on Facebook

Eyespeying's Blog aka #manhun, even if he's been banned by MNHQ

Hommetepreneur on Facebook

We have our own regularly returning bots.

Glossary:

Bots: our affectionate name for victims of the MLM racket

MLM: Multi-level Marketing schemes - essentially pyramid schemes that are just legal because you sell a product. Reliant upon constant recruitment despite there not being enough people in the world to go beyond about 12 levels if everyone recruited 6.

Downline/Upline: the people you recruited and those who recruited you (going up and down the pyramid inverted funnel)

Timeless Vie: Parody of MLM schemes (though you might spot one in particular) that also carries out fearless investigative work. Flogging the amazing skinny lard and now carbonated lard. The arsenic is not the evil Victorian stuff. #TeamDannii #gettingalardon

Hommetrepreneur: also excellent parody site focussing on the menz

BotWatch: Rather more serious, keeps an eye on what the Bots are claiming next, particularly in reference to health and income claims. Also fearless.

Inverted Funnel: Timeless Vie is NOT a pyramid - it's an inverted Funnel, OK?

Eyes: Our former member Eyespying who knows LOTS about MLM schemes. He's still our very own #manhun.

I've been lurking these threads, so might as well say hi. :)

I'm actually really thankful to have read all of this, and Timeless Vie. I haven't worked for a long time because of various health issues, and if I wasn't aware of how dodgy MLM is, I could easily be tempted with the opportunity of "earning a bit from home."

I don't have any bots of my own. There is a Younique bot who's a friend of a friend, so her posts and videos of herself slapping on make up turn up on my FB feed occasionally. I obviously need to find some to spy on...

fitgirl26 · 07/01/2017 17:33

I think everyone needs a pet Bot on their Facebook. It's a shame we can't share them out.

tallwivglasses · 07/01/2017 17:51

Sorry if it's been mentioned before but has anyone heard of BNI? A friend was asked to pay £720 to go to a meeting. It's a business networking thing but it looks very similar to the MLMs talked about on here.

tallwivglasses · 07/01/2017 17:54

Ah no, it was £720 to join, sorry.

BSintolerant · 07/01/2017 18:32

bursarsfrogs welcome to the Mad House!

These threads and Eyes' blog are a revelation. Anyone can get sucked into a cult.

tall BNI isn't an MLM. That said a little bird told me that amidst all the bona fide business people she found a table full of bots: one from Arbonne, another from Juice Plus, and yet another representing Forever Living and its illegal ingredients. To think they've had to cough up £720 when they're faking it till they probably won't make it makes me feel very sorry for them. I also pity the other BNI members who go out of their way to avoid them.

BSintolerant · 07/01/2017 18:42

Incidentally, a former colleague who was clueless about MLM cults met a bot at a BNI meeting and invited her to her office to give a presentation and sell her alleged beauty, health and wellness products during the lunch hour. Despite repeated invitations and reminders, only four people turned up - including the bot. There are well over 100 people working in that office. Turned out that someone made it known that the presentation was all about a product-based pyramid scheme so that put the kybosh on that!

Annie65 · 07/01/2017 19:46

I see a certain "I have conquered bullying, but still keep on about it" bot is now recruiting new victims by offering them a "holiday fund" income. She has been bragging about all the holidays she will be treating her family to. Apparently she has had a lot of interest for it.Hmm

tallwivglasses · 07/01/2017 20:01

Thanks BS. My friend's decided to avoid it anyway!

Spongebobette · 07/01/2017 20:16

Yup

Another way to hook 'em in, Annie

BursarsFrogs · 07/01/2017 20:54

I do have someone on FB whose posts on her blessed life, holidays and wonderful home would fit the MLM pattern, but as far as I can tell she's just annoying, not trying to sell anything.

Ages ago when I had recently moved to a new area and didn't know many people I did go to Ann Summers parties and buy some Avon, as I was just so desperate for company I guess, which is kind of sad. Then again the rep who sold both was never overly pushy about it, and is still a friend (and has a proper job these days).

How does one go about finding a nice bot to spy on? A search on FB with a brand and an area?

Spongebobette · 07/01/2017 21:02

From a top bot, just in case any of her minions were worried or thinking of wavering....

Don't ever let your fears stop you achieving your goals

F -false
E - evidence
A - appearing
R - Real

In my experience, what we think we fear is actually not that relevant in becoming successful

I used to Fear other peoples opinions of what I was doing in this great profession of Network Marketing - then one day I realised that other peoples opinions were not going to allow me to live the life of my dreams, in fact other peoples negative opinions were only going to hold me back

Everything changed when I let go of that Fear

Is that a Nazi salute in the bottom right hand photo?

"Alle negkopfen, haterz und MLM resistance fighters at close range erschiessen werden mit Juice Plus magic bullets. Wir auch water boarden haterkartoffeln mit aloe juice.

#heilbotler!

cozietoesie · 08/01/2017 07:47

No. I don't think so.

CheekySmile · 08/01/2017 08:49

My bot was at that event in Telford yesterday. Timeline full of pics. I think it's a whole weekend thing so expect more today...

Spongebobette · 08/01/2017 12:07

Hmmmm lots of diamonds all over the posters at that event

The diamonds look a bit, ummmm..... pyramid shaped

Sean1984 · 08/01/2017 12:14

Yes I think its a WHOLE weekend too.Another waste of money! But they get to see and hear and touch the head bots talking thru their holes

cozietoesie · 08/01/2017 12:18

Even a half-weekend wouldn't come cheap, I suspect. And out of their own pockets.

Spongebobette · 08/01/2017 12:34

But you get to hear from the top bots and learn how to PROSPECT and overcome people who say no

Tokelau · 08/01/2017 12:39

I've heard of the BNI meetings. I think they meet for breakfast every couple of weeks at 7am. I have a Utility Warehouse bot, who is very nice in real life, but was completely brainwashed. She tried very hard to get me to join when she first started, but although I had never heard of MLMs then, I really didn't like the hard sell.

I think she has given up on me now! She does post pictures of the BNI meetings, and I know they recommend each other to other people. I wouldn't use her recommendations though, because I want a recommendation based on experience, not because they all belong to the same club.

FromIbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 08/01/2017 12:48

I wasn't sure what a BNI meeting was at
first when I saw it mentioned earlier in the thread

However having googled it I now realise my local FL bit attends ones here (pops up on my fb as a friend with a real business goes) .

I can't help but wonder what the real local business owners think about the bots "business" ... might have to subtley find out.

cozietoesie · 08/01/2017 12:54

Of course, Sponge. Grin

BSintolerant · 08/01/2017 13:21

fromibiza I know someone else who met a bot at a BNI meeting. The bot gave her some bumf to read and links to training videos to watch - my friend took the to be polite. Every time she goes to a BNI meeting the bot asks her what she thinks of the so-called opportunity and my friend tells her she hasn't really had time to look into it. Every time the conversation is the same. She thinks MLMs are utter horse shit, but telling someone at a BNI meeting to fuck off isn't the done thing. Grin

cozietoesie · 08/01/2017 13:42

Do local BNI chapters genuinely realise who they're extending membership to ?

As a matter of interest, what is the (approximate) BNI annual membership fee at the moment ?
