Your not alone A12 , welcome to the gang.. Pms!

Al243 · 22/05/2015 16:36

Very intimidating letter they got going out... Has anyone managed to win an "appeal" against any decision made yet?

I too fail to see really how the docs they asked me for would prove I don't have anyone else living here - surely if you were gonna do that, you wouldn't add their names to docs?!

I actually quite strongly object to having to send a year's worth of bank statements to em... I've done it but I wasn't comfortable with it (even tho there's generally bugger all in there lol)

Morgan97 · 22/05/2015 16:37

A1234 I've just read that link you put up thank you for that, as KittyKat says welcome to the gang lol

That power to see bank statements going back years has been used by HMRC for decades as it is the main way to see what money people having coming in and out.

The outsourcing of it and the fact C are paid on results of money saved the state seems to be the worst element of it. The fact they have to take 3 decisions on cases every hour shows how little time staff have to give to complex issues of proof of whether someone lives with someone else or has claimed they spend more on childcare than they do etc.

The independent document linked above is interesting.

Morgan97 · 22/05/2015 16:46

Just read the linked independent document, couldnt believe what I was reading to be honest. They're picking on vulnerable people who haven't got the resources to fight back disgusting behaviour.

Paid on how many tax credits they cut,,,, gives us all great hope doesn't it!

Morgan97 · 22/05/2015 18:31

Frightening KittyKat I thought I was doing the right thing trying to set a good example for my dd by going out to work albeit part time, maybe I should have just stayed on income support

I called them again today. I totally stalk them. Call centre staff lovely as usual! But he admitted the last chap gave me the wrong information and no letter has been sent. And he told me there was a back log so I'm glad he was honest and I'm likely to wait ages. I questioned this " don't worry ... If your payments match our database all will be fine" but then why would I get a letter?? He said is a random check and he gave the impression my details do match. But they word the letters harsh to get a response!! I'm totally confused! Got my regular payment payment today so can pay my childminder. Now I'll worry about next week. X

LotusLight · 22/05/2015 18:39

That is the problem. HMRC have done it in the past too and bodies like CLA, FAST, NLA - they send a standard letter saying you have probably broken the law and hope enough people respond in the way they want. I don't like that tactic at all by the state or other bodies even if it does work in making people stop claims.

Morgan97 · 22/05/2015 22:11

It's not worked with me lotus I've done nothing wrong all I've done is told the truth,I'd be better off not working by the sound of things.

OP posts:
LotusLight · 23/05/2015 07:00

Longer term most people are better off working actually. I earn enough not to get any tax credits or tax credits even as a single mother nor housing benefit and I am still better off. Don't give up work but I can see how worrying it is for people.

You are working part time and as you say giving a good example to your child. Don't let HMRC/Concentrix put you off. I think the worst thing for people dealing with HMRC or so my clients find is delays. That you can reply in a day or two and then wait 2 months for a letter back from them and I doubt Concentrix are being any faster. The crunch will come for recipients if tax credits are cut off. HMRC has had a lot of tax credit problems in the past - paying too much or too little and the system is ridiculously complicated. There should have been a simpler way to set it all up.

Morgan97 · 23/05/2015 08:31

I understand what you're saying lotus it's just so disheartening receiving deadlines from tax credits/concentrix then nothing. I go to work and plaster a fake smiling face but inside I'm crumbling. I've done all i can to prove I'm single, but they stopped my money surely now it's up to them to prove I'm not single

Tax credits sent

Mypubesarestraight · 23/05/2015 11:18

Just received a letter off them Sad
They want all my bank account statements for the past 2 years.
All my payslips and time sheets for the past 2 years.
My work contract.
A letter off my employer showing a breakdown of my weekly hours.

Wtf!!!

LotusLight · 23/05/2015 11:22

Morgan, how long have your tax credits been stopped for? It might have been earlier on the thread. Have you tried publicity/your MP/writing direct to HMRC?

shoepolish · 23/05/2015 15:49

Why are different people being asked to send different things in?
I was asked to send in 3 months bank statements and any utility bills and others are asked to send in a years worth...HMRC sent me my letter not Concentrix though not sure if that's better or worse!

LotusLight · 23/05/2015 17:15

I think it's discretionary. When HMRC had a query on inheritance tax with us they wanted documents relevant to that only of course (nothing was amiss). So if they think someone had someone move in 3 months ago they might just be interested in the last 3 months. HMRC have often with people examined a particular tax year and then earlier ones back 6 years and even more if they find fraud so in theory they have a legal right to say 20 years of paperwork if they really had the resources or you were Bernie Ecclestone/lots of money at stake. The more they ask for the more work it will be for them but I suppose a year of statements and utility bills is going to reveal more evidence of someone living with someone or that their childcare bills are not what they said they were.

Morgan97 · 23/05/2015 18:40

Sorry lotus I've just got in from work, they stopped my payments on 26th march this year,I've written to them five times,my mp has written to them and they sent a mandatory reconsideration form to me don't know what else to do to be honest. I've sent the same bloody things too, receipts, private agreement letter, even my p 60 plus bank statements I've nothing left to send!!

izzy76 · 24/05/2015 15:40

Thats what they said to me Waggledanse just a random check wtf im sat here worried sick while waiting for my bank statments to arrive,I got payed this week so stocked up on tins and loo roll just incase.
Also im really worried about the neighbour thing as me and my neighbour dont get on at all and shes spread loads of lies and have reported me for lots of things ive never done and im sick of proving i aint done what it said, it feels never ending.

Morgan97 · 24/05/2015 15:46

Izzy I have the same problems with neighbours, don't speak to any of them any more they think I'm stuck up ha ha. Also I'm sick of trying to prove things now surely it's up to them to prove we are single or in a relationship!! looking at bank statements prove nothing,I know they will be looking for regular payments going from other people but how many of us are lucky enough to have someone bail us out on a regular basis. Wish I'd had the sense to stock up when I had my letter but I really didn't think there would be a problem as I had the same letter in 2012 n sent the same evidence n there wasn't a problem then. I'm seriously struggling now its awful.

Hiya Morgan my bank statements is just the same every month my cb ct and esa with my bt bill and then 3/4 ebay items and ebay money (less than £100 over the year) ive had no other money from anyone else in there as there is no one out there who would be able to give me money,They want my documents by the 6th june but my bank statements havent arrived yet,I honstly dont know what i am gonna do if they do cut my money as i cant live on £30 a week my electric costs that alone.SCARED.COM my depression has taken a dive and i aint stopped crying since i got the letter yet i know i aint got nowt to hide and no partner but i feel that wont be good enough,
They asked i send in a covering letter to say about lack of bills,
How can they get a way with that wording in the letter! do you think i should say they can come do a house visit any time they want.
Do you think there evidence is the strange letters that stared in jan addressed to someone else?Ive been returning them RTS and keeping a note of the date recived and the return address and were possable ringing them up, i had one from capita tracing they were really nice on the phone and removed my address from that name tho another company i rang wanted me to open the letter but i refused as its against the law. What more can i do does anyone know please as i want to get it right the first time and try to not have my money stopped.Any help/advice would be brilliant,Thank you guys for being here i think i would of done something silly by now.

AdmiralCLingus · 24/05/2015 18:31

They wont send anyone round izzy, i told them they could do this as did my MP, and their response was "oh we dont do that" (what better way to prove it though eh?)
As for the post issue, I believe you are not breaking the law by opening it if you have a reasonable cause to do so. When I moved into my old house we used to get loads of post from the old people that lived there and sent it all back RTS. One day a bailiff came to the door (obviously relating to one of the letters we had returned) and I had to give them my id and new tenancy agreement to prove we werent the people they were looking for. After that, any post that came, I opened to see who it was from and called them to say these people didnt live there anymore because I didnt want any more bailiffs showing up. So (sorry for the long story), I think if you've tried RTS and its still coming, you have a very reasonable cause to open it and inform the sender the addressee isnt there

Morgan97 · 24/05/2015 18:40

Hi izzy,I got my bank statement copies from my bank they didn't cost anything either. We can only send what we have and send a covering letter explaining the lack of anything else. They stopped my money with no warning I found out when I checked my bank n received thir letter nearly two weeks late!! My advice to you is stock up on food and essentials nd be careful with your money I wish I'd done this to be honest. I'm now struggling with my part time wage and child benefit,I'm getting deeper and deeper into debt I'm not living I'm surviving and it's awful. Incidentally I read somewhere that the Royal Mail has been quoted saying they don't deliver to a person only a building not very helpful but worth remembering and putting it in a letter if you need to.please don't cry,you just get all snotty and won't feel better i should know I've cried oceans.

girliefriend · 24/05/2015 18:53

Hi just found this thread, i have had a letter from Concentrix saying they think my childcare payments are wrong. i was fed up as I was checked out last year and it all came back fine. I only claim £11 a week as it is, and have tried to reduce it more this year (as I am worried about over claiming) they wouldn't let me as its not a by a difference of £10 or more!!

My childcare bill is rarely the same month to month as I work different days/ shifts etc so it can get really confusing.

I am honestly thinking about not claiming at all for the childcare element as its not worth the stress.

Mypubes OMG what on Earth are they investigating?? That seems crazy. Surely HMRC have access to much of this information anyway, they always seem to know how much I have earn't etc anyway.

I think they just want as many people as possible to stop claiming tax credits and are going to make our lives as difficult as possible, totally predictable of the Tories Angry

Mypubesarestraight · 24/05/2015 19:27

I don't know girlie but I'm worried.
They already say I have an overpayment of £5000.

I'm frightened.
