Hello, I am just looking for any advice (preferably from NHS experience) as I know no one who has gone through this to ask.

I am 9 1/2 weeks pregnant, had a private scan yesterday which confirmed heart stopped at 6+4. I had a gut feeling (hence the scan) I can’t explain why as I still have all my symptoms.

I rang my local unit and went today for a scan who again confirmed the same as the private scan but are making us go back in 14 days for a re scan before I can have any medical management.

it just feels cruel and I have so many worries.
Will it happen naturally when it stopped so long ago?
can I end up with an infection with it just left there?
Will the NHS offer surgical management over tablets?

I just feel tortured

thank you to anyone who has read this!

@CJHR18 thank you! I’m yet to have a first scan as I’m really putting it off due to last time. The anxiety just never leaves does it

Good luck and wishing all the best for your scan!

I'm TTC again this month and trying high dose folic acid and low dose aspirin in case that helps.

Hi all
@Armdjm it’s amazing you are pregnant and it gives me so much hope! Do keep us posted
@TruthUnwinding good luck! Maybe we should start a TTC after MMC group. i can’t wait to TTC properly, but sadly am sitting at the pregnancy unit now, unbelievably almost three months since this nightmare has started as my pregnancy tests are still positive despite two medical managements :(
@CJHR18 how are you doing? X

The TTC after MMC group sounds like a good idea. I'm on loss 4 with no living child. It sucks! Might be useful to share tips as well. I'm on a TTC thread but I feel what works for a woman who can conceive easily, won't necessarily work for me.

Armdjm · 12/12/2024 13:53

@PurpleOrchids12345 oh no! Are they going to give you a scan today to see what is happening?
Thank you, I’m feeling more hopeful than last time. I never knew why but I had a gut feeling something was wrong last time which I don’t have this time and I have a lot of symptoms! I will update when I have a scan

@TruthUnwinding that is so exciting! I felt really excited when we started to try again which I was worried I wouldn’t feel. I have heard good things about low dose aspirin when trying/early pregnancy. Keeping everything crossed for you!

Thank you. Yes I feel excited again now I have a new approach to trying medicines/supplements etc. I seem to get pregnant easily but my body hasn't been able to hold a pregnancy since my first loss. Just trying to keep positive and hoping it can be helped by medicine this time. I'll also get special treatment due to it being the first loss, including progesterone pessaries, a 7 week scan and NIPT test at 10 weeks. I'd really like a baby to stick this ovulation cycle but if not at least I can enjoy Christmas (AF is due 20 Dec).

How is your pregnancy going?

Armdjm · 12/12/2024 15:27

@TruthUnwinding so will this be your first medicated cycle? I have everything crossed for you! Apparently it can make such a difference and at least you will be well looked after when you do get pregnant!

Pregnancy is going okay I’m just really struggling with nausea all day long it’s really ramped up this week so much so I ended up taking some time off work, being tired makes it so much worse and the only days my nearly 2 year old goes to nursery is the days I’m at work so I really needed a couple days to rest. I’m on annual leave now though until 23rd. Apart from the nausea I just have extremely sore boobs and could nap 50 times a day but I’m trying to take these all as really good signs!

@PurpleOrchids12345 I'm doing OK. I'm having ups and downs as to be expected. My partner took it really bad this time. So our house is a bit flat.

How did you get on today?

I would definitely up for a TTC thread too @TruthUnwinding.

I really hope my AF comes soonish. I've always struggled with irregular cycles due to PCOS, but because I was a healthy BMI my GP wouldn't give me anything to help. However, after my first miscarriage my consultant agreed to put me on Metformin and they seemed to have worked. I've been a bit all over taking them at the minute.

Xx

PurpleOrchids12345 · 12/12/2024 19:52

@Armdjm how many weeks are you now?

@TruthUnwinding im sorry to hear you have 4 losses and no living children. Apparently iosinotol is mean to be good for insulin resistance?

@CJHR18 sadly there is still a clot and bizarrely it’s bigger now than at my last scan a month ago. It was a midwife who did the scan and she said she would have to discuss my “complex case” with a consultant before letting me know what the next steps are :( :( :(

Armdjm · 12/12/2024 19:55

@PurpleOrchids12345 im only about 6 1/2 weeks, I tested far too early and found out at like 8dpo so it’s going very slowly!

Ah I am so sorry this is happening for you! I wonder if they will offer surgical to remove the clot maybe. I’m so sorry you’re going through this, the ordeal in itself is enough without it lingering on so long!

OP posts:
PurpleOrchids12345 · 12/12/2024 21:40

@Armdjm thank you. I feel so broken as it’s literally been months and my body is still clinging on to this clot :( :( :( there is still so much uncertainty even now.

testing 8dpo is totally something I would do too! When are you planning to get your first scan?

Armdjm · 12/12/2024 21:46

@PurpleOrchids12345 i can’t even imagine how you feel. I know I just wished for my test to go negative so can’t imagine how it feels still going on 3 months later!

i know it’s so hard to test early isn’t it! We’ve caved and booked one for next weekend so just before Christmas which I can’t decide if that’s a silly idea or not

OP posts:
PurpleOrchids12345 · 12/12/2024 22:02

@Armdjm it’s not a silly idea at all! It’s amazing you’ve waited this long already!

yes I’m so numb and don’t know how much longer of this I can take! I’ve not told anyone as well, except hubby of course, so feel very much alone and fed up. :(

Armdjm · 12/12/2024 22:10

@PurpleOrchids12345 i know, I had already had one by now last time but thought I’d leave it to way past when the last one stopped developing just for a bit more peace of mind (hopefully)

I can’t imagine, how is hubby taking it? I know mine really struggled watching me go through the emotional side of it all whilst also trying to feel his own feelings. When will you hear back from them discussing with the consultant?

OP posts:
PurpleOrchids12345 · 13/12/2024 06:27

@Armdjm hubby seems to be fine! He was devastated when we first found out about our loss but ok since. It’s mostly me that really really fed up. They want me to go in to do another set of bloods tomorrow and then maybe someone would call me on Monday I’m guessing. It’s a horrible way to start the festive period! Are you going for an nhs scan or private?

Armdjm · 13/12/2024 07:55

@PurpleOrchids12345 hopefully they come up with a plan quickly on how to fix it for you because it’s so unfair that you’re still in limbo 3 months later!

it’s a private one, it’s the same place that found our MMC so seems strange going back but they were really lovely when it happened

Yes it's my first medicated cycle and I have felt a wee bit of nausea (i'm 7 DPO now, I think - though I haven't been doing the ovulation strips). In my last three pregnancies I felt nauseous at 7DO. Fingers crossed! I'm not going to stress about it, and enjoy the mulled wine and stilton over Christmas if AF turns up.

I think it's a good idea to have a scan for the first pregnancy since your MMC. I would do the same if I got pregnant again. My baby stopped growing at 6 weeks and I didn't have my procedure until 10 weeks, I wish it had been found earlier. I am hoping that you have a much happier outcome this time, however! <3

Thank you. <3 Ah what is the iosinotol for? I have a meeting with my pregnancy loss counsellor who used to be a pregnancy nurse / midwife, so I could ask her about it...

PurpleOrchids12345 · 13/12/2024 20:45

@TruthUnwinding it’s a supplement that helps regulate insulin and blood sugar levels- there is a great book called “it starts with the egg” that explains it much better than I have!

@Armdjm I’ve been booked for a general anaesthetic procedure to remove the retain products next week. Although I’ve been keen to avoid any intervention I’m relieved that there is an end in sight and hopefully it will all be over before Xmas.

Have many of you had GAs to sort this out?

Armdjm · 13/12/2024 22:48

@PurpleOrchids12345 im glad you have a resolution. I had a GA for my surgical management of my MMC and it was very painless bar a bit of cramp the first night which I took 2 paracetamol for then never needed to take anymore again.

From more of a medical point of view it’s a very quick GA as I think the procedure itself only takes around 10 minutes. I actually liked that I just woke up to no recollection of anything happening!

OP posts:
PurpleOrchids12345 · 14/12/2024 07:10

@Armdjm that sounds very positive! Could you do things/ get back to work the day after? I’ve got so much to finish up before Xmas so I’m planning to go back to work the next day! Did you bleed for many days after?

Armdjm · 14/12/2024 08:04

@PurpleOrchids12345 I mean I stayed off work for a while after but for the mental side of things not physical. I felt suprisingly normal the next day and was out and about with my toddler but probably did over do it a bit as on the night I was quite crampy. But the recovery was very smooth. Bleeding wise I had some retained tissue that came out on day I think 4 so bled very heavily for a couple of hours but other than that I barely bled at all, I had my surgery the Monday and bleeding had stopped by the Saturday and even then apart from that Thursday it was barely enough to even use anything it was more just after having a wee!

Thank you, I'll read 'it starts with the egg'!

Chiming in with OP here, I also had GA and it was very smooth. I was nervous as I hadn't had GA before, but I also liked that I just woke up and it was all over. They gave me strong painkillers (morphine, fentanyl) I think, so I was apparently quite incoherent and happy afterwards according to my husband.

I had someone with me the following 24-48 hours to help with recovery from GA and painkillers, but was generally fine. I had bleeding and cramping the following fortnight but it wasn't anything more than what my period would be like.
Sending my best wishes for the op <3

@TruthUnwinding and @Armdjm thank you for sharing- I’m weirdly looking forward to it as I can’t wait for this ordeal to be behind me- and hopefully be trying to conceive again before long!

Armdjm · 14/12/2024 13:57

@PurpleOrchids12345 its funny but when mine was booked in I desperately hoped it didn’t happen on its own as I really just wanted to be put to sleep and wake up and it be over!

That doesn't sound weird at all. I felt the same as both of you - and keen to try again. <3 I hope it goes as well as it can do.
