Hi ladies! Our last thread was automatically closed (again) because we reached the 1,000 post limit (twice!). I was hoping we would be able to start a new thread called First Pregnancy Post-MMC, but unfortunately we are not all quite there yet (BUT some of us are!! congrats!!!). I know we will all be pregnant someday soon and that this will end up being a lucky thread! In the meantime, I hope you will all join me as we continue on this journey together. You have all been an invaluable source of inspiration, support, and kindness for me and I want to thank you for making me feel less alone in this. This thread and the ladies on it have been a source of inspiration for me, which is why I created this blog to help other women find information and support after miscarriage: mcandbeyond.weebly.com/

About me, for any newcomers: 31 years old, first pregnancy ended in an MMC in February at 12 weeks (baby passed at nine), D&C the next day, found out five weeks later that it was a partial molar pregnancy and had follow-up with CX hospital until mid-May. Second early MC in April (we weren't supposed to be getting pregnant because of the molar, but didn't know about it at the time). Now TTC again nearly four months after the first MMC and so so ready for a baby!

Thanks ladies! I’m feeling a bit shocked because I genuinely felt like it wasn’t happening this month. I’ve been so laid back. I’m cramping so thought maybe AF was on the way. I must be due AF in 2/3 days so the line is quite clear for being so early. Just hope it sticks!

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 09:21

@SunStruck YES GAL! back in the game ♥️

Catconfusion · 06/08/2019 09:55

It's just the best news @Kiki061190 and I've been feeling a bit crampy but then I did the first time and it progressed so I think that's fine. I was convinced it was ectopic as a bit one sided and it wasn't. Xx

@SunStruck that's great news, I hope this is it for you. Every single one of the lovely supportive ladies on this thread deserves their baby very soon! Xx

So I just had the most positive experience at the doctors. She's put me on progesterone as a precaution, baby aspirin, given me cyclozene on standby if the sickness gets bad. She will call in two weeks to book my 7 week scan and if that's good she'll refer for consultant led obstetrics due to my age and recurrent loss. I'm amazed after some bad experiences with doctors. I also got the appointment on the day by booking online. It's not often a doctors appointment goes perfectly. Xx

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 11:35

@Catconfusion that sounds fab! Glad you have a supportive GP ♥️ Really hope this is our take home babies ♥️♥️♥️

sadtoday21 · 06/08/2019 11:46

@Kiki061190 what are you planning to do re scans? Have you told your OH yet? xxx

@Catconfusion so glad to hear your appointment went well - that's wonderful they are giving you extra care this time around. I'm surprised they did progesterone and aspirin without doing any testing - I thought they didn't do that in UK without blood work and other tests to determine a specific problem. Did you have a scan done as well?

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 11:55

@sadtoday21 don’t think I can go through early scans again. I would just be expecting bad news. I know the odds are in my favour but still just have that feeling the test is a fluke and I’m not actually pregnant. Haven’t told OH yet!

Amanda81 · 06/08/2019 12:29

OMG @Kiki061190 - that's absolutely fab news! Just brilliant. Congratulations 💕💕

Amazing news about the doctors appointment and medication etc @Catconfusion - sounds like you are going to be very well cared for. How are you feeling.

How are you feeling @sadtoday21 ?

Great news on the lining and soon to be ovulation. Get on it!

Just got back from my anomaly scan (I'm 19+4). She is growing perfectly and is looking very healthy. She was a little bit stubborn and dancing around so much she made the sonographer work for her morning cuppa! I had to star jumps and hula hoop motions to get her to move, but didn't work, so they ended up up-tailing the bed to move her out from my pelvis. That worked. I am absolutely over the moon and can not believe that we have got this far.

Love and hugs to you all xx

Catconfusion · 06/08/2019 12:59

@sadtoday21 the doctor said it's difficult to diagnose low progesterone as a low score could be normal for one lady or a high score could actually be low for someone else so testing is often pointless. It's perfectly safe so she didn't see a problem with me taking it just in case. I was surprised too though relieved as I know some ladies with pcos have big fluctuations with progesterone. This can be a problem when the placenta takes over. The aspirin apparently is recommended in older ladies. It's the first I'd heard of it unless a suspected clotting disorder. Again safe but precautionary in case I have issues which is much more likely with age. The scan is tomorrow so we've got everything crossed. Xx

@Kiki061190 You just have to go with how you feel. It scans are too stressful avoid. That line was a hefty line so you're pregnant 💐 It's amazing news! Xx

@Amanda81 What can I say apart from that's just the best news. Well done for getting through all the anxiety and worry. I'm sure it was all worth it. I know there's likely more to come but hopefully over the worst. Congratulations on your lovely girl. Xx

sadtoday21 · 06/08/2019 13:03

That's amazing @Amanda81!! I knew she would be jumping around in there! You deserve every moment of this happiness Xxxx.

@Kiki061190 are you planning something special for telling OH? Or just nervous and waiting to see if it sticks? I did both and waited a whole week to tell DH - it felt like the longest week ever! I hear you on the early scans, its tough both to have them and not to have them.

Which is where I am now too - waiting for the 8+6 scan on Friday. I'm dreading it and feeling really down about it for two reasons: (1) it is the same hospital as my mmc and (2) it is around the same time as the mmc (just a few days earlier). So I am terrified. I also just can't feel anything, I would probably only know I was pregnant from the HPT more or less. Just want to get through the first trimester safely :(

Arh im sorry you're anxious @sadtoday21 about your scan. You're doing so well coping with this. I can appreciate it's hard without symptoms. No matter how much reassurance we all give you I can understand the anxiety. I hope Friday comes and goes with good news. Remember you've got this! You've come a long way already and you'll get there.

I'm already feeling a bit wound up about the scan tomorrow. Not necessarily about bad news as it's so early to tell anything but the action of having an internal scan. I'm worried I'll freak out. Luckily for me it's in a different hospital. The 7 week scan will be back in the EPAU where we got our bad news so hopefully it'll be ok. They are lovely there so although the same place I think the people will help.

What are the staff like at your hospital? Xx

sadtoday21 · 06/08/2019 13:29

Thanks @Catconfusion, it really helped to read that. Have you had an internal scan before? I've now had two and I can tell you that it's not terrible (not great either), but more just slightly uncomfortable rather than actually painful. Just try to wear something that comes off easily and look away when they insert it. It's awkward, but well worth the price of having some answers. I love my EPAU, that's where I went for the 7 week scan. They told me I can come back at any time before 16 weeks because of the partial molar, so I don't think I'll have to have any private scans (luckily, as I couldn't afford them!). I don't like the hospital, by contrast, which is where I am going on Friday. DH says its all in my mind because of the bad memories there, but I felt they were rushed and not as caring as the EPAU. I think scans may be better in summer though, as the EPAU was completely empty. Good luck tomorrow, thinking of you!

OP posts:
Catconfusion · 06/08/2019 13:52

Yes @sadtoday21 I've had a fair few internal scans. I had several to diagnose the pcos. The last three I had were very traumatic as diagnosed the mmc so I guess I'm nervous to be in that position again. The actual procedure doesn't bother me.

I can completely understand your association with that place being negative. It's a shame it can't all be done through EPAU as I think they're generally very good. Hopefully the vibe will be better this time and you'll get a lovely scan picture. I'll be thinking of you too! Xx

SunStruck · 06/08/2019 14:06

Oh thanks ladies, you're so supportive x

@Amanda81 amazing to hear about your scan!!! Congrats :)

@Catconfusion so good they took you seriously and offered extra care! This one will be sticky!

@Kiki061190 how are you going to tell your DH?! 😄

I'm so happy to see so many BFPs on this thread, it's really amazing!

Catconfusion · 06/08/2019 14:12

Thanks @SunStruck I hope so. Fingers crossed for you this time too! Xx

Weenumpty · 06/08/2019 14:12

Hi, I'd like to join please. Haven't read anything yet just wanted to share. Had our first round of IVF which was successful and resulted in pregnancy but I just lost it at 11weeks. Have never been pregnant before and had no idea how awful a miscarriage could be both physically and emotionally. I'm just broken right now

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 15:21

@Catconfusion I’ve had several internal scans, they’re not pleasant but they’re not the worst.

@sadtoday21 I think I’m just going to wait a while and see if it sticks. I just keeping thinking nope I’m not pregnant. I’ll wait and see what the next couple of weeks brings.

@Amanda81 awww thank you! also glad to hear your little princess is doing fab ♥️

@SunStruck I’m not sure! I’ll probably present him with a pregnancy test once if I get by the next week or so with no AF!

@Weenumpty so sorry for your loss. All the ladies on here have been through the same and they have been a massive support to me!

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 15:29

@Catconfusion see that’s why I just can’t do an early scan again! The idea of going back in to have the internal for them to say bad news. I honestly think if I make it to 12 weeks I’ll be bricking myself going into a scan!

Catconfusion · 06/08/2019 16:00

@Kiki061190 I completely understand. I think in my case due to my age I really can't waste any time. Every month counts. If it's a loss I need to move on as quickly as possible. If I was even a few years younger I'd be tempted to wait it out. Xx

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 16:39

That’s totally understandable @Catconfusion ♥️ This will be your sticky baby!

zoomies1 · 06/08/2019 20:51

Congrats @Kiki061190 that’s lovely news.

You guys better not go anywhere, there’ll only be 2/3 of us left!

You’ll have to let us know what you and @Catconfusion have some differently this month!

@Catconfusion, we’re you already planning to go to the GP or did you book it in after your BFP because of previous issues?

Catconfusion · 06/08/2019 21:02

Hey @zoomies1, absolutely nothing different. I did swap to the Zita west Vitafem and DHA a couple of months ago. Still ovulated late on day 32 but it worked. Also had a load of stress the week after I conceived. I wonder if it's just random luck sometimes. I spoke to the fertility nurse from Ovusense and she recommended progesterone because of previous losses so managed to get an on the day appointment to ask the GP. Luckily she was brilliant as I think it's rare for GPs to take the progesterone theory seriously. I'm still not convinced I have low progesterone but worth trying. Xx

Kiki061190 · 06/08/2019 21:18

@zoomies1 last month I did everything ‘right’... I took pre conception vitamins, I used preseed, I temped and I dtd all through my fertile window. This month I stopped the vitamins, no preseed, no temping and just dtd when we wanted. We usually dtd 3x a week maybe 4 depending on how busy we are. I think maybe less stress around it worked. I would only be coming up 4 weeks on Thursday I think so still not quite convinced yet 😳

3204ECL · 07/08/2019 07:06

@Catconfusion and @Kiki061190 massive congratulations! I'm so happy for you both, this really is turning in to a lucky thread!

@Amanda81 great news on your scan, glad your baby girl is doing well, I can't believe you're half way there!

@sadtoday21 thinking of you at this difficult time as you approach your next scan. Got everything crossed for you for Friday. I totally understand how you're feeling and am here if you want to talk.

Hope everyone else is well xxx

Catconfusion · 07/08/2019 08:34

@Kiki061190 it's difficult getting to the point a period would come isn't it. I'm 4 plus 1 so it should be here today or tomorrow. I'm getting a little bit of cramping but I got that the first time round and AF stayed away. My test this morning was blazing positive so I doubt this is a chemical. I guess I'll just have to see what the scan says today! Xx

@3204ECL thank you so much. It's been a big shock but we're so pleased. I hope this is a lucky thread too. How are you doing? Xx

sadtoday21 · 07/08/2019 09:50

@zoomies1 we aren’t going anywhere!! This thread has always been the number one source of support for me and I can’t wait until we all have those BFPs!

As for your question, the month that I did everything right and ate healthily and stopped drinking and monitored everything, dtd a lot = BFNs. The next month I drank quite a bit, relaxed, ate what I wanted, dtd one time, and didn’t temp = BFP! So I think the answer is that it’s luck and there is not much you can do to influence the outcome either way. The only thing I would do again in future is take EPO as soon as AF stopped until O, make sure to stay vertical for a long time after dtd, and then stop temping and enjoy life as soon as O is confirmed. It’s not a lot, but those are the only things I think are really worth doing. Hope that helps! Xxx
