Oh, and Brummie** wishing you all the luck in the world today babe!!!

Just one question (then i promise to fuck off) anyone ever had a bit of bleading day of or just after ov? Is this normal or agnus castus still in my system a week later?

Marchgirl · 03/07/2015 11:07

Funny you should say that freckle, as i have a little bit of spotting this morning. V odd for me. Too early to be implantation so not sure what's going on. Fingers crossed it's a good sign Hmm

March, Oh I see - Prof B is suggesting that the contraceptive effect of progesterone could stop eggs implanting once you get BFP rather than never getting one at all? Trying to get my head around that because I didn't think any other form of contraception let BFPs through first? But admittedly not something I know a lot about.

Marchgirl · 03/07/2015 12:07

I'm not really sure biscuits!
The things he said were that a lot of people with no issues would also have a positive test before then getting their period if they tested early. I'm not entirely convinced by this one, you don't hear that many people on the ttc boards (who often test 'too early') saying they got a bfp then later got their period and just thought 'oh well, can't have been a pregnancy then'.

Also he said that in most cases when you get a bfn, its not necessarily that the egg isn't fertilised and doesn't implant. It implants briefly and then is rejected if it's bad.

My understanding previously was that the prog helped with that selection process in people who were hyperfertile, but perhaps the effect wasn't quick enough to avoid the bfp before it was (correctly) rejected.

His statement that it acted as contraceptive for some people if taken in high doses suggests it was over zealous in its selection process and was rejecting good eggs too. I should be clear in saying that this is not what he thinks is happening with me, he thinks they were bad eggs. But obv i can't help but wonder. I don't want to put anyone off taking it, as i think for some people it will do the right thing. But it does seem a bit hit and miss on who it works correctly for and who it doesn't. More research needed!

IFinishedTheBiscuits · 03/07/2015 12:18

Agree about hit and miss! But I also wonder why they change protocol after three months, because if they're thinking that bad eggs are being rejected during that time, wouldn't you give it six months or more before assuming it was not working rather than working?

All very complicated.

Marchgirl · 03/07/2015 12:22

And yes, normal contraception (the pill) stops ovulation, but as we've already ov before starting prog it must be a different contraceptive effect he's taking about

Boozle80 · 03/07/2015 13:27

Brummie, I will be madly pressing refresh. So many of us are crowding in that scanning room today!

IFinishedTheBiscuits · 03/07/2015 14:46

Just realised it's Brummie's appointment time... Sending positive vibes to the Midlands.

NotSpartacus · 03/07/2015 15:26

Marking my place.

Hope the scan is a good one, Brummie.

Dh has gone away on a stag weekend and ... i feel ovulation coming along. What a shame I don't have a swimmer stockpile in the freezer. i can't bear wasting eggs ...

twilightstruggle · 03/07/2015 15:33

Oh Spartacus, how very frustrating. I recall in a similar situation I once googled 'can you home freeze sperm'. Annoyingly you can't. Grrrr. Hopefully your ovary will hold on to the egg until he's back.

Another wave of good vibes to Brummie.

Brummie, that's amazing. Shame there are no fireworks smileys at the bottom.

Twilight, I googled too. And then wondered if I could maybe nip to the sperm bank (!) ... In the end I had a headache so I took ibuprofen, hoping that the side effect of that will be a delayed ov (I've heard it sometimes delays it). This stuff sends me a bit crazy.

Floweroct · 03/07/2015 17:02

brummie that's excellent news SmileGrin
