Does anyone else “smell” … funny?😳

BruceLeTerror · 06/09/2025 19:06

When I was a kid, the loo always smelled “funny” after my DMum had used it.

Fast forward 40 years, now I’m smelling that smell when I use the loo (or just on/about me in general)

I can’t describe it 😳

Am 48 - guess Mum would have been similar age at the time?

FWIW I shower every day and wash at other end of the day

tia 🙏

Well! Day two of using persimmon soap and my pits no longer smell of onions, it's a miracle! GrinGrinGrin

Really!!?

Handyweatherstation · 09/09/2025 18:04

Yes! I even had a very active day and sweated but there is no onion smell, I'm astonished.

Well I never! Meanwhile has anyone seen the MITCHUM roll-on in the news tonight?

Handyweatherstation · 09/09/2025 18:18

No I haven't. What does it say?

Yes, I've posted on the thread in Chat about it. I've had dreadfully sore pits for weeks since using one of rhe bad batches, and I was driving myself insane thinking it might have been shaving rash or a fungal infection.

Sorry to post a pic of my hairy armpit but this is what it looks lile recently... much better than it was a few weeks ago. It was so sore, I couldn't sleep and was literally holding my arms away from my sides. I hate how painful it is. I'm sure it's a chemical burn of some sort.😢

It's been causing irritated armpits and chemical burns for many people. I've never had a problem with it until now.

Glad they've said something and gone back to how they were making it before. Must have been a nasty shock for those who ended up with sore pits.

I use Bionsen and find it very gentle.

I feel I know you so much better now @ForeverDelayedEpiphany!

Calliopespa · 09/09/2025 18:32

I actually had similar about a fortnight ago, thought it was me ( and it was only one armpit), skipped a day then had a shower and tried again as it had calmed. Have been using it since, and no issues. Will have to throw them all out and start again. But I will give them time to clear the stock and buy again, as I do think its an excellent deodorant.

My persimmon soap arrived from
amazon, and noticed it’s full of seed oils, amongst other things. Only a tiny portion is persimmon! So that’s going back. Panic purchase! 🥲

Oh bugger off. Thus doesn’t happen in your 40s, you idiot.

Exactly.

Tobethornottobethhatistheupton · 09/09/2025 21:18

I got chemical burns from Mitchum about six weeks ago. I was in agony for two weeks and I still have red sore skin and still can’t use any deodorant. I have only been able to use soap the last few days, before that even water was painful.

Their “some people may have a slight reaction for a few days” statement is horrendous when many people have suffered chemical burns

justasking111 · 09/09/2025 22:13

The mitchum incidents are nasty. I'm glad you're all recovering.

Happy for the persimmon people

BellissimoGecko · 09/09/2025 22:55

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 08/09/2025 21:51

Well, whatever.

Here's a SCIENTIFIC ARTICLE for you. Any better? 🙄

A scientific article about a study that involved 108 people. Right.

BellissimoGecko · 09/09/2025 22:56

ForeverDelayedEpiphany · 08/09/2025 21:57

And why are you so rude in your arrogant reply, "you idiot"? 😑

Because it was a stupid point to make.

cheesycheesy · 09/09/2025 23:24

I’ve ordered some persimmon soap. Hoping it’s ok as I have quite sensitive skin. We’ll see!

Yeah, so you should find one with more, obviously, seeing as you make out how knowledgeable you are (!)

the one I got is really lovely and soft. Natural ingredients but a random “fragrance” listed.

no idea if it’s just soap that works for this though

mum has always used soap and is in her late 70s. Does not have that smell at all

pottylolly · 10/09/2025 13:36

It’s probably some kind of urinary incontinence. Try the pelvic floor chair

Some people don't ever get the smell. It seems to be very random, my mum had it but not my dad and they both died in their 80s. So I am now teetering, wondering whether I will take after my mum or my dad and wondering about investing in persimmon soap...

TheSkyRaisin · 11/09/2025 11:21

I just wanted to add that the ‘sugar puff wee smell’ occurs after drinking coffee - there must be some metabolic by-product that is strangely reminiscent of Honey Monster cereal (other brands are available).

As for semen-smelling trees, the main one I’m aware of is the flowers of sweet chestnut, i.e. the type of chestnut that you roast on an open fire (not to be confused with horse chestnut, the flowers of which are completely different and smell pleasant). Linden/lime trees don’t smell of semen, they have the most beautiful, delicate floral smell when flowering. One of the best smells ever.

Now I’ve got that off my musty chest I’m off to wash my fanny.

It's not urinary incontinence, at all. If it were it would be fairly easy to describe the smell, it would smell like stale wee. Which it doesn't.

What in the JML Direct is a pelvic floor chair?
