we went to silverburn yesterday, its ok, same shops as the fort really. May be better once more shops open? Not many places to eat or have coffee? Cambuslang is nice, have a few friends from work who live there? Good parts and bad parts same as ek? Uddingston, hamilton and bothwell are all nice, if you want to email me with your budget i could send you some links to houses in nice areas round here and also ek. If you want to have a drive about some time i'm more than happy to come with you?

midnightexpress · 03/01/2008 10:45

We're in Crosshill Ellesbelles, other side of the park from you, but ds1 is at Heritage House nursery on Albert Drive and we have pals in Kenmure Street so often over in your direction.

otoh, the Tescos at Silverburn is ginormous and 24hrs so we are often to be found cruising the aisles with our insomniac chidren at some godforsaken hour on a Saturday morning.

ellesbelles · 03/01/2008 13:11

Hi sorry AA went for a nap there and couldn't resist having one too!

Thanks Midnight and GMM for info, you are so kind.

I will email you our budget GMM. It will all depend on what we get for the flat so planning to sell that first. If only we could get all the wee bits in the flat sorted out - we never seem to have any time. We'll need to get finger out though.

Midnight we've probably passed each other a few times and not even realised. How old are your dcs?

trixymalixmasy · 03/01/2008 17:13

I thought Silverburn wasn't that great, just the same old shops you get in every shopping centre. There is a La tasca and a Yo Sushi and Wagamama is opening up there too, so i think it might be quite good for eating.

Ellesbelles - I live in Burnside and I think it's a nice place to live. There's not as much going on as there is in places like Shawlands as there aren't really any decent pubs or restaurants. There are quite a few toddler groups and classes though and some nice parks.

There are some nice bits in Cambuslang as well, don't know much about East Kilbride though.

YumzieMumzieLaura · 03/01/2008 18:39

wow it would be great to meet you all.. any chance we could go for a weekend meet up tho cos I work full time. I dont like missing out on anything!! hahaha

YumzieMumzieLaura · 04/01/2008 14:16

oo glad the snow is away!

vio · 04/01/2008 14:31

Hiya, hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year! midnight, glad that you finally got back to your flat!

Best wishes for the new year! certainly a better year for myself and my family ( fingers crossed )!

You ladies are right, Silverburn is just like other shopping centre, they say the M & S there is the biggest in Scotland? I thought it quite big actually and we tried Yo-sushi though DH thought sushi has no taste at all!!..

Ellesbelles-i live in Stepps and i think its a nice area! but i have to admit that i dont know much about Glasgow!!..

ellesbelles · 04/01/2008 21:31

Evening all, thanks for all the feedback on areas to live. I've got a lot more info to be going on with.

Burnside sounds really nice Trixy, bet it is out of my price range... I'll have a look though. I'd be up for a weekend meet up if everyone else can make it.

Happy New Year Vio. i don't know that much about glasgow either even though I've lived here for 11 years. Always lived in flats in either city centre or Shawlands sort of area so not much knowledge of anywhere else really.

Thanks again for all info - much appreciated

YumzieMumzieLaura · 05/01/2008 17:39

I got a real bargain in markies today - a per una black sequin shift dress.. reduced from £99 to £15!!

ellesbelles · 05/01/2008 21:56

Wow yumzie, which markies were you in - that's amazing!

YumzieMumzieLaura · 06/01/2008 14:10

It was the Paisley branch which is usually rubbish! My pal at work calls me Betty Bargain...Ill probably not get a chance to wear it till next Christmas.. but itll save me buying a party dress at full price!

ellesbelles · 06/01/2008 18:27

you certainly can't beat that mark down - its amazing!

I've managed to stay away from the shops this January as so skint. Feels a bit like nicotine withdrawal did when I stopped smoking, but I know if I go to the shops I'll buy something!

trixymalixmasy · 07/01/2008 14:04

Wow, that is a fab bargain.

I've been staying away from the sales as well as we are totally skint, but I do kind of need some new clothes for going back to work.........

ellesbelles · 07/01/2008 15:56

When are you back to work trixy? Are you going back full time?

clu · 07/01/2008 16:25

Happy new year to all, hope you all had a good time over the festive season. I have one good point about silverburn - it is not roasting hot inside. ok so it is a small plus and I do love the tescos there. We had a good time, we were in Ireland at Dps family and DD thrived on all the extra attention and is now sleeping 7 hours during the night!! Cant believe she is 10 weeks now , it is going so fast.

Unfortunelty came back home to find washing machine from the flat upstairs had been leaking through my bedroom celing, the whole time i was away, bed and carpet ruined need a new celing and redecoration. We only live in a one bedroom flast so now eat, sleep and live in the living room, life is very tetchy in the clu household .

midnightexpress · 07/01/2008 16:35

Oh Clu how awful. My sympathies are with you after all our flippin building work. Argh. Hope it gets sorted soon. Will insurance pay for it?

Trixy - we're back to square one with ds2 and his sleeping. I remember you telling me at the last meet-up that these things are one step forwards and two steps back and lo! It came to pass. So fed up . Back to boot camp with him as soon as we can face the trauma.

Can't believe he and your ds are going to be ONE in a couple of weeks. Where did that go?? Any sign of walking from DS? DS2 is staggering around and can just about manage holding on to one hand. DS1 does a very funny impression of him walking with dead straight legs.

clu · 07/01/2008 16:41

Yes I am very fortunate that my insurance are going ahead and sorting it. Just have my excess to pay £200, not nice after christmas though. I know some insurance companies would refuse since it is from another property.

weeonion · 07/01/2008 16:46

clu - poor you. dont know how you are coping - all of your living in the one room! hope it gets sorted soon.

ME - whats up with the sleeping? was it the festive fun and house upheaval that sent it off kilter??????

geordiemacminx · 07/01/2008 16:54

Clu - should it not be their insurance that foots the bill as it wsa their fault?

When is Tallulah back from Oz?

Will have to get a met-up sorted soon.

WO -Check your email.

xxx

midnightexpress · 07/01/2008 16:55

clu.

WO - wish I knew. He's just gradually crept back until he now sleeps till about 12 and then wakes every 2 hours for the rest of the night. And after the 2nd waking he refuses point blank to go back to sleep in his cot and wails until I take him into the big bed. I'm thinking of putting him on ebay (not really. Fortunately he's verrrry cute the rest of the time, so I forgive him everything about 5 mins after we get up). I want to wean him, but just dreading the whole palaver that will inevitably result.

clu · 07/01/2008 17:24

i think it should be his insurance but I thank goodness mine is acting upon it. The flat above is rented and the owner is completely ignoring all my calls, it was the tenants father that finally fixed the leak after i dragged her into my flat to look at the leak.

ellesbelles · 07/01/2008 18:04

Hi all. Sorry to hear about your bedroom getting flooded Clu - bloomin' upstairs neighbours are nothing but trouble (says the voice of experience). Cannot wait to get out of my flat!!

Oh by the way GMM, I may well soon be one of your beeeeatches , as we went for a drive to see the house you sent the link for and we LOVE it! We are now frantically making plans for getting our flat on the market. Will talk more re Uddy tomorrow.

Also the porridge before bed seems to be working - so far. AA was waking every hour or so between 7 and 11pm, but now she is sleeping though from 7/8ish til around 5am. fingers crossed it keeps working.

I can't get into my email for some reason. What is happening tomorrow? Alternative email is [email protected]

geordiemacminx · 07/01/2008 18:23

Hey you.

So pleased that you like that house, I havent seen it but from the web page it looked lovely, and the sort of thing that we would go for as a family of 3 if we were looking. Would be really good i you moved over this side.

C is sleeping grand at the moment... 6.30 til 6.30....touch wood.

No idea about tomorrow - waiting to see if L's car is fixed? The fort would be best for me, I'll email you on that address with my fone number? You are both at bouncy babies tomorrow am arent you?

trixymalixmasy · 07/01/2008 19:10

Clu - What a nightmare about your flat!

Elesbelles - I am back to work on the 30th and I'm going back 3 days a week. I had been kidding myself on that i was looking forward to it, but as the date gets closer i dread it more and more. I am looking forward to having a bit more cash though!

I ended up going to the sales this afternoon and bought lots of stuff without actually spending any money. I took back a couple of shirts my Mum had bought DH and bought him 4 better ones in the sales for the same price. I also got a coat reduced from £75 to £25 with some vouchers I got for Xmas.

ME - about the sleeping going tits up. It could just be a temporary blip though, is he maybe teething?

Our boot camp was going not too badly, he slept through a couple of times and was only up once one of the other nights. He has slept really badly the past few nights though as he has had a virus and i think he might be teething as well .

I can't believe they are going to be one either, it's scary how fast the time has flown! DS is walking with a baby walker, also with very straight legs !!

What are you getting your DS for his birthday?

midnightexpress · 07/01/2008 20:06

Trixy - snap with the virus and teething. Must be their age or something! We are clinging to straws and hoping it might be that...

We're thinking about getting him a push-along thing from Mothercare. Hang on I'll do a link...

this

How about you?

But I think it's actually quite a difficult age to buy stuff for - too big for the baby stuff and not big enough for the other stuff iykwim. Anything but more flamin cars. Honestly, with ds1's birthday in November, Christmas and now ds2's birthday they've got so much STUFF!
