We've now vacated the pregnancy threads - hope everyone can find us here!

here it is:
Song for a Fifth Child
Mother, oh mother, come shake out your cloth!
Empty the dustpan, poison the moth,
Hang out the washing and butter the bread,
Sew on a button and make up a bed.
Where is the mother whose house is so shocking?
She's up in the nursery, blissfully rocking!

Oh, I've grown as shiftless as Little Boy Blue
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).
Dishes are waiting and bills are past due
(Pat-a-cake,darling and peek, peekaboo).
The shopping's not done and there's nothing for stew
And out in the yard there's a hullabaloo.
But I'm playing Kanga and this is my Roo.
Look! Aren't her eyes the most wonderful hue?
(Lullaby, rockaby, lullaby loo).

Oh, cleaning and scrubbing will wait till tomorrow,
But children grow up, as I've learned to my sorrow.
So quiet down, cobwebs. Dust, go to sleep.
I'm rocking my baby. Babies don't keep.

Loulee. I love that.

midnightexpress · 22/11/2007 09:22

Bit quiet on here at the moment isn't it? Are we going to meet up in a couple of weeks (I think the first week in Dec was suggested). Shall we think about a place to meet? I wondered about the Garscube Playrooms. Or perhaps not West End this time as we did that last time. What do people think?

Loulee - love the poem - oh so true!

Trixy - how's the cat? And the sleep?

Bookthief - hope all well with ds. I think it must be the time of the year, but we seem to have an interminable cold in this house and ds1 has a gunky eye, while ds2 has been in teething hell this week, so all funfunfun here .

trixymalixy · 22/11/2007 15:03

loulee - that was lovely brought a tear to my eye.

midnight - the sleep is shocking at the moment. We both have stinking colds and DS has 3 teeth coming through. He was up every hour last night so my Mum had just taken him for the afternoon so I can go for a sleep. God knows how I'm going to go back to work!

The cat isn't too bad, she's getting a bit sick of being cooped up in the kitchen the whole time though. The vet says there's a 50/50 chance that she'll get the use of her tail back so it's being left on for another 6 weeks to see before a decision about amputation is made.

Clu - my Ds is 10 months and I still sleep during the day and have a bombsite of a house. i think while they're still getting up through the night you are perfectly entitled to just go with the flow and not stress about things.

clu · 23/11/2007 09:27

Loulee I love that poem thank you , Well I have relaxed and my DP has started helping round the house a bit more. It just does not occur to him. When Im tired I go to sleep if DD is sleeping, no hurries to get anywhere and yesterday nearly missed the HV clinic. But we went she has put on more weight which is great she is 7lb 10 now and 4 weeks today. (6lb 2 at birth)

I can not believe she is 4 weeks old, time has gone so fast so thank you ladies cos now I will enjoy it more rather than worrying about being up and about in the real world. On another positive, big deal for me, but I BF in public ok, so was the doctors office but I think im great. An old woman was glaring at me but what would she prefer a screaming baby! DD makes such a fuss at home before going on the breast but there she went on no bother was great.

HOpe everyones colds are getting better and the cat keeps it tail!

clu · 23/11/2007 09:27

Trixy when are you meant to be going back to work?

trixymalixy · 23/11/2007 14:01

I'm going back to work at the end of january.

Last night DS slept from 9.30 until 4.30am and then up at 7.30!!!!!

That's the best sleeping he's ever done. I of course didn't sleep a wink .

I'm sure it won't be repeated.

Gorgeous baby pics btw Clu.

trixymalixy · 23/11/2007 17:08

Midnight - how's your sleep boot camp going?

Loulee · 23/11/2007 19:24

i know, poem's lovely. mil always says it to me [the last stanza] - keeps me from getting stressed out with the chaos!

glad sleeps getting better trixy, ours is having a down turn - knew it wouldn't last!

meet up would b nice. only thing about playrooms is youre meant to be a member [which is easy to do] but maybe not everyone wants to join?? i'm easy - west end, city centre or southside suit me.

midnightexpress · 23/11/2007 20:03

Good news trixy - fingers crossed it's not one-off.

Much better here thanks. Most nights he goes through till at least 4 (some nights as late as 5.30), has a quick feed and then sleeps again till 6 or 7. Now all we need to do is figure out how to get him in with ds1 so that we can reclaim our bed and get off the flippin sofa-bed, where neither of us get anything like a decent night's sleep.

bookthief · 27/11/2007 17:35

How's everyone doing? Fingers crossed, the nursery lurgies seem to have died off this week (last week it was a lovely stomach bug, thanks ds!). I've even managed to get some work done rather than spend all day pretending to shelve and groaning.

I'm still up for meeting up in a couple of weeks wherever. Would be interested in having a look at the Playrooms but happy to go East or South if it's better for others.

I hope you sleepy people are getting more sleep. After a good run we're back in the land of teething so it's been a bit of a shock the last few nights!

weeonion · 27/11/2007 19:44

hi folks - not been here in a while. i was home in ireland last week. C is not sleeping well at all- days or nights - and as all of you know only too well- if bubbas arent sleeping , mums arent too! i actually felt like just walking out a few days ago oand keeping walking.....

a meet up would be great. i am going to the garscube playrooms on friday morning with some other mums - anyone fancy meeting us there? if not - i will report back her as to what it might be like as a meet up? it woudl be great to see you all again.

bookthief · 27/11/2007 21:02

WO - am meant to be meeting a friend on Friday for Christmas shopping blitz (Pay Day!!!!) but if not I might wander up to the Playrooms. What time will you be there?

weeonion · 27/11/2007 21:21

i will be there from about 11ish...

midnightexpress · 28/11/2007 08:50

Hi there all

I might well come along and join you - will have both boys, so sounds like the perfect venue for entertaining a 2-year-old (do you have the street name WO?).

Hope you're OK WO - sleeplessness is deadly isn't it? We've all been up since 5 today, as ds2 decided it was time for a good yell (teeth too I think).

Am v impressed that you're onto Xmas shopping already bookthief. We have to move out for a few weeks on Saturday for builders, so Christmas currently about number 673 on the to-do list. Frankly, they'll be lucky to get a satsuma at this rate.

How's it going Clu and lunachick?

Hope to see you on Friday.

Loulee · 28/11/2007 22:30

it's on manresa place, midnight. (it's an old school building between garscube road and st georges road (you have to enter through a gate that takes you through a nursery playground). it's quite hidden. will see if i can get better directions for you.
i won't make friday, but girlies are sometimes there in the afternoon on fridays - so do say hello if you see them

midnightexpress · 29/11/2007 09:42

Thanks Loulee - I'll try to find it. We're going to be staying in the West End for a few weeks while the builders are in, so it might be a bit of a godsend (assuming I can find it!).

weeonion · 29/11/2007 10:17

ME - i will email you my mobile number. there should be about 6 of us going - so keep an eye out for frazzled mums wandering round clutching bits of paper!

bookthief · 29/11/2007 12:04

Well, my friend has called off our trip so I might see you tomorrow - if ds is chirpy enough as he has another cold and is very grumpy and sleepy today.

If he's too streaming I won't come and share it though!

blanki · 29/11/2007 18:35

Hi, I was wondering if I could join the merry bunch? DS is 2 1/2, I am seperated from XH and doing V work at the moment. If its ok, I would love to chat/meet other mummies in Glasgow and share frazzled hair and stories!

Loulee · 29/11/2007 19:39

if you come from north woodside swimming pool side (st georges road side) you basically come to the back of the bulding. you'd park here and then walk down the side of the building down a wee alley way. Gate is then on your left. HTH Lx Have fun! hopefully i'll make the next one..

midnightexpress · 29/11/2007 19:57

Thanks very much Loulee - hope to see you next time - or let us know if you're going again before Xmas and maybe I'll come along and join you.

Hi there blanki - the more the merrier! DS1 has just turned 2, so am with you on the frazzled hair. Good grief it's exhausting sometimes. Come along tomorrow if you're free? See further down (up?) for details.

I guess we should probably update the old stats, shouldn't we? We didn't bring them along with us from the old thread. OK, I'll start:

midnightexpress: glasgow, ds1 2, ds2 10 months

blanki · 29/11/2007 20:59

Cheers ME, Its nice to feel welcolmed, thank you. Bit lacking in confidence, but who isn't?! Hope Christmas is not approaching too quickly for you all as it is for me! Take care

Loulee · 29/11/2007 22:40

I'll prob be there next week (maybe mon or thurs). Will post here / cat you.

And hi blanki! welcome! - didn't mean to ignore you - always typing one-handed and in a bit of a hurry me! What v work do you do btw?
oh and stats:
midnightexpress: glasgow, ds1 2, ds2 10 months
loulee: glasgow, dd1 4, dd2 2, ds1 4 months

bookthief · 30/11/2007 11:08

Hi blanki - hope to meet you and your ds soon. I've got one ds who's just turned 1 and have recently returned to work part-time. Ds has started nursery and is settling ok but is getting all the usual nursery bugs which has been a pain in the neck!

I hope those of you who ventured out in the rain had fun at the playrooms. We were planning on joining you but ds decided to have a long nap and is still asleep. Next time.

midnightexpress: glasgow, ds1 2, ds2 10 months
loulee: glasgow, dd1 4, dd2 2, ds1 4 months
bookthief: glasgow ds 1
