ellesbelles · 11/01/2008 10:44

morning all!

Congrats Vio, fantastic news.

Bookthief, both my brothers went to Firhill, I won a bursary to go to posh school (Watsons), but my best friend from school lived in Fairmilehead and I used to hang out there ALL the time. Wonder if we know some of the same ppl?!

blanki · 11/01/2008 19:59

Lots of good news and bench marks, well done all! We have been poorly sick with colds and throat infections, yuk! But we are off to Fuerteventura on wed so its not all bad! Still have baby stuff that is taking up space I dont have. Was looking to make a few £s, but now would be happy for the stuff to go to a good home, any donations welcome though! Please email [email protected] if you are looking for anything, no smoke or pets here! Please dont meet up before I get home!

trixymalixy · 11/01/2008 21:30

Blanki,

i am still interested in the travel cot if you still have it. I'll speak to my parents on Sunday about it.

meep · 13/01/2008 09:50

ellesbelles - you must have been a couple of years above me at school (mum worked for the merchant company so they paid for most of our fees )! I also hung about at Fairmilehead in my youth!
Hi vio - and congratulations!

ellesbelles · 13/01/2008 12:01

Afternoon all, hope you have all had good weekends.

I have pulled a back muscle yesterday while clearing the flat in readiness for selling. A bit worried that all my plans for an activity filled week are going to be up the spout now as don't think I'll manage to get the bloomin' car seat up and down the stairs! grrrrrrrr!

Anyone got any advice on how to get a pulled muscle better, fast?!

So were you at Watsons as well meep? Small world! So can you remember any teachers? Or pupils a couple of years above you? Or who you hung out with up at Fairmilehead? We must know some of the same peeps! So good to reminisce!

clu · 13/01/2008 21:05

ellesbelles - i would recommend heat, those heat pads out of the chemist are excellent or a hot water bottle.

congrats on the first word midnight, and one with actions what a clever lo.

weeonion · 13/01/2008 22:56

oh no eb - you ok for the morning??

ellesbelles · 13/01/2008 23:30

got the heat pack on and resting. thinking that if I get dp to take the car seat down to the car on his way to work and then i just carry aa down I might be ok. I am NOT staying in all week again. I will go mad after that run off illness before Christmas! Hopefully it will be better in the morning. jinxed I am.

bookthief · 14/01/2008 00:43

Small world eb/meep! We must know some of the same people. I'm fairly sure I'll know some of the people in your year at school meep. Quite a lot of people from my P7 class went to Watsons.

lp77 · 14/01/2008 23:34

ellesbelles, not sure if you found place yet?
my friend has baby just over 1yr and she lives in westgait cambuslang..
I've been in glasgow 13yrsand no idea, live in knightswood now
good luck house hunting.
we just moved in may with daughter now 20 months and new baby girl 9weeks!
fab havin house n garden tho.

lp77 · 14/01/2008 23:35

also warm bath / shower for muscle..

meep · 15/01/2008 09:11

It is indeed a very small world! I remember going round to a girls house at fairmilehead who had a pink fluffy tarantula as a pet - that wasn't you bookthief or ellesbelles?!
I do remember most of the teachers - and living in Edinburgh still bump into quite a few which can be alarming! Did you hear that Mr Quinn died recently? I was in the same year as Mr G's twin girls!
Ouch re the pulled muscle - have you got any tiger balm - it always sorted me out (and not as stinky as deep heat!)
Off for day 2 of nursery settling in - ugh - hope I don't cry today (I cried in the nursery yesterday - oh the shame !)

liath · 15/01/2008 09:22

pevie · 15/01/2008 21:42

Hello all, trixymalixy told me about this thread. have read some of your messages but am not sure if all had babies at same time or is just anyone north of border. Basically, am mother of 3 yr old and 8 mth old in Glasgow area. Am on other topics quite a lot moaning about 8 mth old cos shes v.unsettled but will try not to do that here!!!! Certainly v.humbled by Vios comments although am not sure about whole story obviously.

anyway, it would be useful to just keep in touch here about services in and around Glasgow. Not sure how relevant but first question is, want a childminder, nanny for one day a week. Live Westerton, nr.Bearsden. anyone know of anyone? Just let me know if this isnt right place to ask such questions????

meep · 15/01/2008 21:52

Hi pevie - I'm quite new on here too!
clu - second day at nursery went well - it was actually easier to leave her there rather that sit and watch her. I left her for 2 hours and when I came back she hardly noticed me which was good but also !

clu · 15/01/2008 22:24

glad it went well meep, at my work i have seen children put on the full waterworks and a very good display of emotional blackmail and the minute their parent has left they are off having a great time with their friends. Not that i will apply that to myself.

hi pevie I have a dd - 11 weeks, there are lots of different ages here. I dont know any childminders that can help you perhaps the Bearsden and Milngavie liar herald sometimes they advertise in there, or the childcare information service "childcare EDC"

lunachick9 · 15/01/2008 22:56

Hi

Not been on in a while. Can't believe how busy things were over Christmas and New Year - hope you all had a nice time (will read the rest of the thread eventually to find out if you did!)
The girls are going to be 12 weeks on Thursday and are coming on so well - everyone keeps commenting on how alert they for their age. They have their jags on friday so the inlaws are coming to visit for the day just in case things get a bit much.

Nice to see some more new people joining this thread. pevie - another Anniesland mummy here!

clu - have you been to the community centre yet? I went in to find out about the baby massage and apparently it restarts this friday from 10-12 ( the girls are at the docs at 11 so I can't go) There were also lots of posters for mother and toddler group but I don't know if the babies would be too young. there is also a gymboree class at the Caledonian gym? which I think is at the back of the community centre - I'm going to look into this a bit more.

Hope you are all well and hope we can all meet up soon.

midnightexpress · 16/01/2008 08:59

Hi pevie. Have you tried any of the nanny agencies? We got a temp part-time nanny for a few weeks when ds2 was born (I had a 14 m-o and a cs recovery. Fabulous combination, I recommend it ) it might be worth a chat anyway. The two I know of are West of Scotland Nanny Agency and A&H childcare:

a&h
westofscotland

We got ours through West of Scotland, but a friend also has a great mother's help through A&H.

Now then, this meet-up. Who's up for it? What days are good/bad? Tuesday mornings quite good for me as I only have one little monkey in tow - any good for anyone else? And how about venues? Geordie/Trixy, anywhere good near you - you always seem to be heading over to town? How mobile are the newbies?

And where's ANJO???? Haven't seen her around for ages. Nor Loulee.

clu · 16/01/2008 10:33

hi luna hope the jags go well, no i hadnt been to the comm centre but im going to pop over today now you reminded me. I had phoned scotstoun as they have baby massage and its £30 for three weeks, but if you miss one thats you lost your money,. I had a disaster with my flat so am waiting for building work etc so cant book 3 weeks. Ill go look at the posters, at lot of things the babies seem to have to be 4 months but its worth a look. Perhaps we could go together?

email me your email address:[email protected]
good luck with the jags.

midnight - Tuesday is fine for me. most morns are cept Friday really. Although I am ignorant on good places to have kids in tow.

trixymalixy · 16/01/2008 10:41

Hi Pevie, nice to see you here.

Most mornings are fine for me except fri next week, but the week after I have the dentist on Mon morning and go back to work on Wed .

Although I am thinking of taking the Wed as another holiday and putting off work till the following Mon .

midnightexpress · 16/01/2008 13:31

trixy - are you going back full-time?

trixymalixy · 16/01/2008 20:49

ME - I'm working Mon-Wed. I don't know how I'm going to cope as DS' sleeping has just got really bad again. I'm totally knackered!

midnightexpress · 17/01/2008 09:06

Poor you trixy. If it's any consolation, ds2 has just had a few really good nights after reverting to waking every two hours for a month or so. We had one night at the weekend where I sent dp in a couple of times to settle him and he's had 3 nights since then when he's slept through till 4 or 5 and then slept again till about 6 after a quick feed - all in his cot. Maybe once they've done it once it's a bit easier to persuade them to go back to it?

He's a wee bit clingier in the day though, so am currently trying to clear kitchen of detritus for decorator with small boy hanging off my leg.

must get back to it...
