My mum just arrived and let herself in. Apparenty DS rang her whilst I was in the shower and didn;t hang up so she couldn't call back to check I was OK. She arrived thinking I had fallen down the stairs and instructed DS to call (he's not actually smart enough yet to understand numbers!)

Better than the police I guess.

ah... yes... well...learning to ride a bike
dh bought me a bike nearly 2yrs ago, never learnt, his bike was stolen so he used 'mine'
really must learn not very good example for dd

sfxmum · 16/10/2007 17:22

must say my favourite forms of transport involve having a chauffeur

ScaryScaryNight · 16/10/2007 18:05

Oh, having a chaffeur is just fab. Mine used to wait outside shops, come meet me and take my bags off me, and snooze in the shade while I was out lunching at posh restaurants, ah that was life.

So, nobody up for Kew Retail park tomorrow?

bunyanvillas · 16/10/2007 18:52

Are you serious, Scary - you used to have a chauffeur? How fabulously posh! I am definitely living the wrong life My chauffeur is the H37 bus driver - or myself!

ScaryScaryNight · 16/10/2007 19:33

I did when we were in India. We have an apartment there. Different life!

Bunyanvilla, your name reminds me of one of my favourite flowers: Bougainvillea. lol

rosmonster · 16/10/2007 20:00

evening all,

I ended up in Ealing in the end as that bus turned up first! Am amazed at the cost of wellies , am going to try Matalan and Ebay first I think now!

Scary, a friend of mine worked in India for 2 yrs and loved it, he also had a chauffeur, said it was a fantastic experience! Btw, how are you feeling?

slng · 16/10/2007 20:05

Ros - I was in Ealing too! We had a tour of our catchment school this pm and ds1 decided that called for tea in the Natural Cafe. Ealing pants for wellies. West Ealing better.
At least there's Woolworths. And Adams kids.

rosmonster · 16/10/2007 20:07

Slng - were you with a large group of children? I saw a group of schoolkids being led through the Broadway centre. I thought the Adams in WE had closed down? I will look at Woolies though.

bunyanvillas · 16/10/2007 20:36

Oh, am I being compared to an exotic flower (last thing I feel like tonight!!)

foxensteinscreature · 16/10/2007 20:55

Ros - was only with 2 kids, with the wobbly one kept trying to escape. Cute, but hazardous.

Foxie - don't know what you look like ...

Spooks is on!

sfxmum · 16/10/2007 22:03

KC / cov hope respective dss is ok tonight

sfxmum · 16/10/2007 22:05

blinking typos

and Scarry nothing like the third world for a bit of luxury

ScaryScaryNight · 16/10/2007 22:10

sfxmum, I wonder if I should ignore that comment or ask you to explain it.

sfxmum · 16/10/2007 22:12

wasn't meant in a bad way really it is the expat life anyway

ScaryScaryNight · 16/10/2007 22:21

Actually sfxmum, you assume a lot, seeing as you dont know me. And as you have managed to make me feel like a total twit I have the need to explain.

My husband works in India. He is now there for 4 weeks. No point in having a hotel room for 4 weeks. Especially not when you go there 3-5 times a year. In the past he had to be for 3 months at the time. We have a small 2 bed apartment next door to the office. It is by no means luxurious. It has a one hob burner for cooking, a kettle, and a fridge. I havent been there since my second was born. There is no luxury in cooking for a family on a one hob burner. There is no luxury in doing the family washing in a bucket in the bathroom. There is no luxury in chasing monkeys to get your washing back.

There is luxury in having a chauffeur I suppose. But I could not possibly drive in that traffic. It is also too expensive to buy a car. You cant hire cars without a driver. So, it costs £10 to have a car and a driver for a full day. It makes sense.

There are NO playgrounds open to the public, there are NO softplay. As a foreigner NO local woman will be allowed to meet up with you for a playdate. Heck, even the consept is unknown.

Taking my son to a posh restaurant is a relief beyond anything you can imagine when you live far away, have no friends, struggle to cook something edible on tinned sausages, eggs, rice, veg and various pulses and lentils, you have no coffee shops, no playground, and you cant go to the park without being followed by hordes of people who wants to touch your baby.

So you are right, there is nothing like a bit of luxury in the third world.

sfxmum · 16/10/2007 22:23

crikey really no need for all of that and not a personal judgement at all

ScaryScaryNight · 16/10/2007 22:23

sorry, xpost, extremely touchy, husband went down there again today.

sfxmum · 16/10/2007 22:25

that is perfectly fine I spent a fair portion of my childhood in Africa while still empire.
was a throw away remark with no offence intended

rosmonster · 16/10/2007 23:29

omg, I've just realised the time , really must stop playing scrabble on facebook

scarynight, sorry I can't meet up tomorrow but am around Thurs pm

ScaryScaryNight · 17/10/2007 08:28

Ros, what a shame, would be nice to see you again. I have wednesday and friday afternoons off, so wont be there tomorrow.

SJ99 · 17/10/2007 09:15

Ok Paddle, see you soon
Ros will report back after been to Tesco on welly status

Paddlechick666 · 17/10/2007 09:22

sj, I also found dd's old Suit in a Sack which is age 1 - 2 and only worn twice. It was huge on dd so am sure would fit your ds.

Will show you when you get here.

sfxmum · 17/10/2007 09:31
