For when the August thread runs out.

OP posts:

I think M&S are doing some pretty / useful bras lately but not so much for my size it is a bit hit and miss

deffo don't show bra unless it is a hot date

Kewcumber · 04/10/2007 12:58

I don't understand why you can't redo the straps. If you lift the dress by the straps a few inches does it help? (should also reduce the scoop of the armholes too) if so then you take the straps up at the top not where they join the dress.

bunyanvillas · 04/10/2007 12:59

PC I have a lovely Jigsaw size 10 (I think, or it might be an 8 will have to check tonight) black dress - knee-length, shoestring straps. It has been worn once and is dry-cleaned and ready to go. Plus I have a dark red wool wrap with sparkly bits plus embroidered bits to throw over the top. You'd be welcome to have a look if you think it might fit the bill.

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 13:04

I have various things in size 12 that I've not been able to wear since 2003 and won't be able to wear until 2009 at the earliest...

Or a few in size 14.

Or some bigger but I am guessing you are a 12 or 14, Paddle...?

Paddlechick666 · 04/10/2007 13:35

oooh bunyan, that sounds fab but I am indeed a 12 or 14.

kew, i'd have to snip the strap and then find a way to re-attach it. it is definately a much better fit if i lift the staps by an inch or two.

mum is quite a good seamstress and had a look last night and thinks it's just not possible to do.

sfx, what ya got then?

Paddlechick666 · 04/10/2007 14:06

lemon not sfx!

sorry

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 14:27

I have...

Size 12 Hobbs black dress, probably around mid-calf length, diamante straps and diamante trim around neckline. Somewhere I also have black sandals with diamante trim that go very well with this.

Size 12 Monsoon lilac dress (a large-ish 12 as it's Monsoon), satin, halter-neck, full length.

Size 12 Karen Millen silver dress, probably around mid-calf length. I have never worn this as even when I was a size 12 I suspected it was very unforgiving to any bulges unless you had seriously engineered underwear on top.

Size 12 bottle-green proper ball-dress sort of thing with a relatively full skirt.

Size 14 I mostly have some fairly plain Monsoon silk longish (mid-calf to ankle length) dresses in blue or green. Not sure they are glam enough for your purposes though. And some more knee-length things but again I suspect not glam enough.

If you went up to a 16 I have a lovely black and white Monsoon dress from this year (I didn't think it was as big as Monsoon 16s tend to be, so it might fit someone smaller. Or I may have just been deluding myself). Also I have a black velvet halter-neck with a long split in a 16 and a navy velvet with diamante straps and a drapy neckline in a 16.

I shall continue hunting (in my searches I have discovered a maternity evening thing that I'd forgotten I had, so it's not been an unproductive day...)

Paddlechick666 · 04/10/2007 14:38

oooh I love Karen Millen!

Love Monsoon too, got my wedding dress there and am tempted to wear it for this do but it is full length and might be a little OTT.

i'll facebook you when i get home to discuss!

thanks so much!

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 14:45

(underwear underneath, obviously, not "on top". That would be odd...)

Kewcumber · 04/10/2007 14:49

but starngely apt given Paddle seeming determination to expose hers to all and sundry

BTW I meant to ask - is being tarty a bad thing then? I've always aspired to it but haven't managed to carry it off for many a long year.

Paddlechick666 · 04/10/2007 14:54

good news: buyer just agreed to instruct solicitor to exchange asap.

am almost a little disppointed as have just found some other properties that look quite good!!

more expensive tho but possibly just manageable but would lose money on survey etc.....

as for being tarty, i wouldn't mind so much if weren't a works do!

Kewcumber · 04/10/2007 14:58

ah works do...

Once went for broke at a Xmas works do when I knew I was leaving two weeks later. Very low cut dress with fake tatoo just visible on one boob. One guy who had worked with me was almost speechless in admiration that I had a tatoo'd bosom and he never knew.

never seemed to occur to him it might be fake - and he knew me - I was reknowned for rather clever (though I say so myself) practical jokes.

Kewcumber · 04/10/2007 14:59

good news about flat though. It might sound tempting going for anotehr but can you cope with the stress and uncertainty for months longer?

TheSFXshape · 04/10/2007 16:02

so much tarting up chat I feel like seriously mumsy and on that subject -
am I the last to know that Mothercares cafe is no more?

dd is carrying out a courtship with Iggle Piggle the big action doll , she has been getting closer every time and today actually touched his hair and blanket
(she does not like automated toys)

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 16:53

I think you are, SFX. Normally it would have been me, but I happened to find out a couple of weeks ago while attempting to visit it (had to go to M&S instead).

foxensteinscreature · 04/10/2007 17:15

Hi everyone [waves]

paddle how about Bravissimo in ealing? they have trillions of seriously gorgeous bras and not to expensive either and you could meet me for lunch too

Hard for me to sneak on MN at work as I am too "over-looked" as it were

Can only really try during lunch hour and I haven't had time for one yet, due to much expressing of milk!

Oxo - how about a drink one Friday evening round your neck of the woods or Richmond?

TheSFXshape · 04/10/2007 17:39

oh Bravissimo have not treated myself to that since pregnancy

but anyway where to for Boogie tots? I am most distressed

Paddlechick666 · 04/10/2007 18:03

thanks all, managed to get a strapless black number in M&S which I think will do the trick.

will try it on later. got some nice green dress jewellery to match the shoes so hopefully it'll all work.

first night sans houseguest and as i have tomorrow off no mother.

yippeeee! house to myself!!!!!

lemonaid · 04/10/2007 18:11

Boogie Tots number is apparently 020 8898 5622 -- there must be somewhere else relatively close?

rosmerta · 04/10/2007 18:15

Sfx, I knew the cafe had gone but have they stopped doing all the activities as well?

TheSFXshape · 04/10/2007 18:16

oh thanks lemonaid me and my lazy chops! was going to google after dinner honest, I had misplaced Lisa's number.

paddle - meant to say good news on house ( maybe)

are you still going swimming tomorrow? I can do same time as Ros if I go should be around 11/12 or so

SJ99 · 04/10/2007 19:05

hello all
Feel a bit lost on the thread here, in laws finally left today so 1st chance to have a look on MN - like Paddle I too am enjoying the house with only me and DS in it tonight without any guests!

Although has been fun for DS to see IL's he has also been completely unsettled and last night he kindly chose to stay awake between 12-5am Just my luck that I had a rare night out with old uni friend and just got in at 12.15am. I had 3hrs sleep last night and he had no nap today, what a killer [zombie emoticon].

PC - well done on house contract and lucky you going to a grown up ball with no kids, hope dress works out. Might meet tom for swim/tea but tbh will have to see how tired DS is.

Would like to go to some sort of xmas WL party....

Cannot make Sat as am meeting 42yr pg friend expecting twins, but have fun ladies

SJ99 · 04/10/2007 19:13

Didn't know about cafe either or Boogie tots, would've liked to ahve tried that. I'll call her anyway to see if there are any more classes.

DS got some of his b'day pressies early from IL's. They have got him a yamaha keyboard off ebay as part of his pressie, he loves the music and dancing, too funny to watch

Kewcumber · 04/10/2007 19:45

DS has mastered the art of "mum-meeee" rather than his previous "mumum" and is lying in his cotsaying "mum-meeeeeeee, muuuuum-meeeeeee".

Its a damn site harder to ignore than a mumbled "mumum"!

SJ99 · 04/10/2007 19:56

Yes it's so true, I found it harder to ignore it when mummmeee is being said rather than mama. I also find it hard to refuse him a biscuit when he remembers to add 'pleeease' to the request!
