Time for a new general chat thread

HAPPY NEW YEAR

OP posts:
ComeOVeneer · 30/01/2007 18:24

So who on here is looking for baby stuff? What do they want and when? I am in the throws of sorting bits out and have promised a few to a friend but have bits left over (I would need them back at some point as am still hoping a 3rd may join our house) but am willing to lend things.

oremstango · 30/01/2007 18:53

Hi all-

Been keeping busy with the little guy so haven't been on much but hope everyone is doing well. Finally getting to the point of thinking about finding a sitter and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations they could share?

lemonaid · 30/01/2007 19:05

Nursery questions:

Staff turnover -- in general, plus ask how long the people you meet have been working there
Do they get outside during the day? How does the weather affect this?
Ask about partnership funding from age 3
Do they have a key worker system
How long will your child stay in each area before being moved up?
Routines -- how flexible are they?
Communication -- do they have a book where they write messages or do they make time to talk to you?
What's included in the cost - eg food, milk, nappies etc.?
What do they do if kids wont eat food?
How do they potty train?
How do they deal with unhappy kids?
How do they do with discipline problems -- e.g. what will they do if your child bites or hits others?
What will they do if another child in your child's class has a biting or hitting problem?
Do the children watch any television? If so, how much/what/what time of day?
Have a good look at the older children right at the top of the age range. How do they behave, how do they seem? These are the children who are the product of several years at this nursery and can tell you a lot.
See how the person showing you around relates to the children in the various different rooms -- is this an everyone-knows-everyone sort of a place or more siloed?
What are their settling-in suggestions?
Hygiene -- in general, plus do they have a "shoes off" policy in the baby room?
Special activities -- music, drama, dance, etc.?

pudding77 · 30/01/2007 19:31

thanks lemonaid & uwila, I think that more than covers everything!

MrsB - I left the boxes outside your door, hope you get them!

MrsBigD · 30/01/2007 23:15

Hi Pudding, yes thanks so much for the boxes. Sorry we missed you but first the landlords were very chatty (very nice indeed as well) and then we hit traffic. Must have been some issue with the M25 because once we were past the junction everything suddenly cleared. Either that or everybody was heading for a night out in London!

CoV... totally relentless, but I spoiled myself with lots of chocolates tonight . Glad to hear your lo settled so quickly. DD already requested that I spend the first day at the new school with her. Not sure how I'm supposed to do that as ds won't be in nursery yet. Her solution... just bring him along

xoxo · 31/01/2007 08:20

ormestango: if you are looking a babysitter I can recommend my 'temp' nanny who is training to be a primary school teacher and is very good.

Paddlechick666 · 31/01/2007 08:45

oi! oxo, how come i don't get a recommendation??!?!?

if I can find a cheap nanny I'll come out to play 10th Feb.............

hi oremstango, was thinking of you the other day. hope all's well.

xoxo · 31/01/2007 09:03

oh, sorry

so - who wants her then? I could ask if she has another trainee teacher who wants to babysit?

I could also ask my 'prop' nanny if she wants to babysit!

errrrr, shall I ask if she is available?

Paddlechick666 · 31/01/2007 09:08

d'you know how much she charges? if you could ask that'd be fab!

would prefer your personal recommendation tho, or if she has another friend then would like to meet them if poss.......

tbh, dd rarely wakes once she's gone down and i wouldn't be going out till after she'd dropped off but i'd rather have met them before their first night iyswim?!

are you at work today?

foxabout2pop · 31/01/2007 09:16

Hi everyone

Read all your posts but feel to frazzled to respond to each.

Had a huge barny with DH last night and told him how useless he is.

Well, its true.

Paddle - have just finished a crunchie bar - you mind reader!

Just bollocked DH down the phone in front of work colleagues, who all look a bit scared of me now, but I don't care!!

Anyone got a piccie of David Tennant with no clothes on? Now that would cheer me up.

sfxmum · 31/01/2007 09:37

oh foxie {{hugs}}i guess as things stand it is hard not to feel as all is pilling up relentlessly on top of you.
paddle has the right idea to ease some of the trouble
or you can shout at us for a while

mrsD- have you gathered all the take away numbers of fair Marlow? it really is a musy when moving

Paddlechick666 · 31/01/2007 09:50

it's okay, I have erected my chocolate biscuit & de-caff tea sheild thus diffusing Foxie's indignation

uwila · 31/01/2007 09:52

I'm too sexy (David Tennant)

Do not click in front of colleagues. No idea if it has sound. Mine is turned off.

ComeOVeneer · 31/01/2007 09:54
