Really, really sorry but my older two have both been sick during the night and I'm keeping them off school today as they are not in a fit state just yet, so wont be able to make it .

SmudgeMum · 14/02/2008 20:44

Oh, Katwith3kittens. Hope they are better now and that none of the rest of you caught it. We missed you You were right about Podywody blooming - she looks fab and I can't believe she's got just over 2 weeks to go. Lovely to see you and DS Podywody, fingers crossed for an easy, well timed arrival of LO!

Nataz27 · 15/02/2008 22:54

hello, am from due in Jan 08 thread. My DS (first child) is 3 weeks old. DH and I have lived in the NE for about 5 years (now in Bedlington).I am only "Half Geordie" ... my mam is from Gateshead but we grew up Dahn Sarf.

Would love to meet other mums esp in SE Northumberland area. I had a caesarian so can't drive for a few more weeks but we're getting there and maybe I'll be brave enough to get out and about a bit more soon!

Hello! I'm new to Newcastle, just moved here two weeks ago. In fact, I'm new to the UK, moved over from the Netherlands with husband and 16 month old son (husband has job here for a few years). Do any of you know what I can do in Newcastle with my 1yr old son?? Are there any things like playgroups or whatever (fun) places where he can meet with other peers? I don't even know where to start looking... I'm in the Heaton area (I think , LOL). Further information = I don't work right now, so I have time to discover places with son, also am 6 months pregnant, so getting a little less mobile because of that... Hope my English is spelled right, English of course not native language. Hope anyone can give me some tips. Thanks!
Eva

Hello everyone and welcome new people on this thread. I haven't posted on here for aged .
Eefje, I have a Dutch husband and two year old daughter and we also live in Heaton. I know the area well so am happy to meet up with you and show you around. Another poster on this thread has Dutch connections too. It would be great to get a little Dutch speaking playgroup together.
If you're interested post on here or email me at my username at gmail dot com.

eefje · 22/02/2008 21:29

Fibernie, wow that would be great! What a nice surprise, didn't expect here to be any dutch connections (didn't read all the 19 pages of this thread ). Does your daughter speak 2 languages? My son now waves at everybody yelling: "Dag!" I better start teaching him it has to be "bye bye" . I will email you at your gmail!

fibernie · 22/02/2008 22:43

No problem. You can help me with my Dutch! Yes, my daugther is exposed to both Dutch and English at home, and uses both in a funny mix at present. She spends her days at the moment pointing and saying 'Die one!' ('That/this one for those of you who have no idea what this means!')
Look forward to hearing from you. Newcastle is a great place to live, and there are lots of things to do with small people, if you know where to look! Tot ziens!

jezzemx · 24/02/2008 22:51

Welcome Eefje. I don't live in Heaton but I do live in the East of Newcastle (not far from you) I have a friend who lived in Heaton and she went to a few toddler groups. I'll find out which ones.
If you don't mind a little bus journey or a nice walk, there are a couple you can try in the east of Newcastle.
One is in Walkerville at the Walkerville Community Centre (just off Appletree Gardens)
It's on a Monday Morning costs 75p. Children have a little snack at break time and mums and dads can have refreshments. There is a singsong at the end.
There is another on a Wed and Fri morning at the Ray Grey Centre on Coutts Road (Walker) costs £1. Kids get a snack and they make toast for mams and dads (bliss) My DD loves this group as they don't overcrowd the place with lots of toys. There is a lot of space and after clear up time they bring out lots of balls, the kids love to pass/kick around. Both groups are very friendly
If you need to email for anymore info my email is:

Dag Eefje. I've got a one year old DS who we are hoping will at least understand Dutch as DH is Dutch and talks Dutch to him. He doesn't say anything yet - DS that is! - but does wave in both Dutch and English!! Also congratulations on the pending number 2. Fibernie - how lovely to meet you here again. Hope things are going well. I was just planning on making some vege nuggets to stock up the freezer. DS eating pretty well and trying really hard to eat with a fork.
I'd love to meet up with you two and have a little Dutch group! I think I understand a fair bit of Dutch but don't really talk much. Fibernie - does DH talk to you in Dutch in front of DD or does he talk English?
Hi Jezzemx - are you new posting on here or have you namechanged? The groups you go to sound lovely. I think having not too much out helps to keep toddler groups calm. DS just crawls to climb on chairs and up stairs at the moment!
Nataz - hope DS is better. Sorry if we passed on the bug
Angechica - welcome and congratulations on your little one. Hope you are recovering well and all getting used to each other

jezzemx · 26/02/2008 22:22

Hi Smudgemum. I've been on here a while. I tend to click on active convos (just to see what's happening) or checking the book club i'm in and end up staying there for hours spouting a load of rubbish

eefje · 27/02/2008 12:47

Hi Jezzemx, thank you for all that information! I'm beginning to understand that there's lots of stuff to do with little kids in the area. Fibernie gave me the netmums.com address where I found a lot of parent & toddler groups in the area. I will check some of them for sure. Must be great for my son to have some play time with other kids (and toys!).

Hallo SmudgeMum, another Dutch husband, haha. How old is your son exactly? It would be great to meet up with you and your son too, a little Dutch group . My son isn't really talking yet, just some words and trying to repeat a lot we're saying. But when people here are starting to him in English, he does look a bit confused! Of course he will need to learn two languages now, but I've heard the little ones pick it up the easiest. It will be interesting to see how it will develop...

fibernie · 27/02/2008 13:54

Smudgemum, I was hoping you would pop up on here. I was thinking about the Dutch playgroup idea and wondering how old your son is now!
I understand Dutch pretty well so DH talks Dutch to DD and I join in in English. We have lots of three way conversations that way. She's now using some mixed up phrases, e.g. 'Mummy cereal op' (Mummy's cereal is finished', 'DD brille on' (glasses on). It's fun to watch the languages develop at the same time.
Am also glad the nuggets are still being made!
I'm meeting eefje this afternoon. Maybe if she agrees we could set up a little Dutch playgroup to meet every so often at weekends?

SmudgeyDoodle · 27/02/2008 21:11

Jezzemx, I know what you mean about getting sidetracked and realising you've lost an hour reading random conversations!
Fibernie - getting together on a weekend sounds fab. DH has sort of contact with another dutch family with a little boy I think so I'll get him to mention it to them too. We could start off just meeting somewhere and going for coffee. I think we'll end up having conversations like you do with DH speaking Dutch, me English and DS a bit of both. I hope you had a good meet up. Eefje, DS was one at the beginning of Feb. The observent ones of you will notice my subtle name change....... if all goes well, Doodle is due at the end of Oct!
Podywody keeping everything crossed that all goes well and your LO puts in a timely appearance.

katwith3kittens · 29/02/2008 12:33

Aaahhh ... thats FANTASTIC news Smudgey CONGRATULATIONS

And welcome to all the new mums, hopefully we'll all get a chance to meet up again soon

fibernie · 02/03/2008 19:03

Congratulations Smudgey! Feel free to drop me an email on the address below if you want to talk about it some more. We're in the middle of major house renovations here so won't be able to think about it for a little while. I think a garden/park meetup though when the weather is warmer.

eefje · 02/03/2008 20:21

WOW Smudge, congratulations!!! That's great news. I was due at the end of Oct with my first son... Hope you're feeling OK!

podywody · 03/03/2008 22:09

Hi all , and welcome to the new mums, now we really should have a meet up soon. Well my big news I gave birth last sunday to a totally beautiful baby girl, weight 6lb 13oz at 1.45pm by water birth, it was great, i was in church at 10.30am when I started to get a few little pains, came home then pains were coming every 4 mins, dh got nervous so left ds with neighbours and went to RVI so in all only 3 hours labour and only about 5 mins that were painfull and I used gas & air. Breastfeeding getting easier now first few days were tiring, ds is being fine with his little sister.

SmudgeyDoodle · 10/03/2008 12:09

Hi all,
Can't believe it's nearly a year since the walk last year. Saying that, the weather outside today kind of reminds me of that day......I haven't had anything Podywody but I probably ticked the box to say don't send me anything. Anyone up for doing similar again? Or somewhere else? I think a walk and a picnic is a nice idea, if only we can guarantee the weather.
Take care all,

lauzie · 12/05/2008 20:30

Hi all belated news...

I had a beautiful baby girl 20.03.08 7lb10.5oz Hannah Rose.

Congrats Pody and smudgy btw, anyone fancy a meet up soon?

SmudgeyDoodle · 12/05/2008 21:18

Congratulations Lauzie and lovely names. Is DS enjoying being a big brother? Did you move house?
I'd be up for meeting up soon but it might have to be somewhere where the LO can run about and not cause too much mayhem...
