Podywody congratulations!! I've been trying to find out who is around with new babies on the way for the last few months but not really had much luck so far. I'm due 2nd Feb and live out in West Denton. How's things going? Is the sleep really as bad as everyone says? Are you having a quiet Christmas time or do you have lots of people wanting to see the new arrival?

podywody · 20/12/2006 09:53

Its an amazing feeling I didn't expect it to be like this, i have really taken to motherhood. He is just such a bundle of joy and the love i feel for him is amazing . I get up once durning the night with him and the lack of sleep doesn't really bother me because durning my pregency i was up every couple of hours going to the toilet and near the end it was hard to sleep as i was so big ....so have you everything ready ? you really wont feel it now, i went a week early and had just finished work so it flew by. u must be so excited ? Good Luck and questions feel free to ask is it your first ?

Hi Podywody, Sorry not posted for ages we were moving and didn't have internet access for a while. how was your baby's first Christmas?
We were up in Scotland with family and it was lovely. I've now finished work so am just sort of waiting...... I think I've just about bought all the things I need for hospital and got most of the baby stuff from sister in law. It is our first and we are excited but I'm terrified too. Midwife yesterday couldn't tell which way up baby was so we're going for a scan tomorrow. hopefully it will be head down and all will be simple

podywody · 04/01/2007 19:14

How did your scan go ? Don't worry just enjoy the excitement, let me know how things go for you. we had a great christmas at only 12 weeks ds was looking at all his presents he is changing so quick and learning new stuff every day its amazing.

Hello podywody and SmudgeMum. I live in High Heaton, I've got an eight month old dd. I'm back at work now, just started back on Thursday.

I don't know of any groups in Gosforth apart from the singing one, Piccolos. The toddler pool at Gosforth swimming pool is lovely, just like a big warm bath, I bet your ds would love it.

How was your scan Smudgemum?

podywody · 07/01/2007 11:28

Hi Ladidadi,
thanks for advise, how old do you think ds should be before going to the pool? and do you know of any classes at the pool ? my health visitor advised to wait till he had all in injections ? Whats it like being back at work ? I am not looking forward to leaving my ds...

OP posts:
LaDiDaDi · 07/01/2007 18:14

So far work's fine but I don't know how it will be long-term. I really needed to go back though, I was getting very bored at home.

I don't think that they do need to have all of their injections, that relates to when the polio vaccine was given orally and there was a theoretical risk to others catching it if your lo inadvertently did a poo!

I'm sure he would be fine now but just beware of the poo issue as those huggies little swimmers are quite big, I know that they didn't properly fit my dd for some time.

I took dd to waterbabies classes. We enjoyed them but they were quite expensive, approx £100 for 10 weeks, and the pool they were on at , Copthorne Hotel pool, wasn't as warm as I think it should have been. I don't think that I would do it again. Ring Gosforth pool up, they might do classes.

SmudgeMum · 08/01/2007 20:05

Hi podywody and Ladidadi,

Scan was fine. The midwife is quite new and I think she was just being cautious. The dr said that the head is already 4/5 engaged which might be why she hadn't been sure. I've been getting pretty constant BH all day so at least I know that things are all happening as they should. I reckon I'll still be here in 3 weeks waiting though!

I was trying to find out about baby groups out my way today but didn't really have any luck. I spoke to someone who said that there was a singing group out in a village somewhere but I can't be certain I'll have transport. I'm seeing my new midwife next week so was thinking I'd ask her about any groups. Have you tried your local Children's Centre podywody? I found out some info at the library about one quite near me and they are sending me some information.

Ladidadi how were your first few days at work? Are you working full time? Did you have the dreaded mon morning feeling or is it still a novelty? I have no idea what I'll do because I gave up my 'real' job to move up here and just temped for a whille. Still, I don't have to worry about it til at least May I reckon.

LaDiDaDi · 09/01/2007 23:29

I am working full-time and I think that the novelty is still there at the moment. I do find myself getting more annoyed by delays towards the end of the day because I'm so conscious of wanting to get home to see dd but when I'm busy I don't think about her as much as I thought I would but it is still very early days.

SmudgeMum · 11/01/2007 12:12

Hi there,

I did post yesterday but it seems to have disappeared!! I bet you're looking forward to this weekend ladida - hope you don't have too much boring housey stuff to do and can enjoy being with your baby.

I went down to my local children's centre yesterday and found that they do a parent and toddler (but was assured all ages of babies) on a Tue and Thur morning. Only thing is, it is the totally opposite edge of the estate from our house and down at the bottom of a big hill - ok on the way there but might never make it home!

LaDiDaDi · 11/01/2007 15:30

To avoid doing housey stuff we've got a cleaner, she was supposed to start this Monday gone but her dd was poorly so she couldn't come but she should be coming for 3 hours on Mon which is great. I can just let the house get grubby over the weekend and know that it will get sorted out for me. I've never had a cleaner before but we felt it was the best thing we could do to make it possible for me to work full-time.

SmudgeMum · 11/01/2007 21:43

Ooooh, good for you. Only thing with that is if you're the kind of person like my mum was and when she went back to work FT, she got a cleaner. We all had to tidy the house up ready for the cleaner to come (we were older). Still, that would need doing anyway so at least you don't have to do the actual cleaning.
Hope your plans for the weekend don't involve any going outside or you might get blown away. I went to the shops this morning and despite being the size of a house, nearly got bowled over by a strong gust!

LaDiDaDi · 12/01/2007 09:58

I bet your centre of gravity has completely changed through pregnancy, you're probably more likely to get blown over now than before.

I fancy some new cheap clothes for work so might need a trip to the MetroCentre, don't like going to Newcastle if the weather's miserable.

What will you be doing?

SmudgeMum · 12/01/2007 10:53

Morning,

Well I was really looking forward to going to aquanatal this afternoon but had a really sore boob last night. This morning it's even worse and there's a lump there so I phoned the midwife. She said prob best to get it looked at so now I'm going to the Drs this afternoon instead. I'm sure they'll just say, one of those things but I had mastitis when I was younger and it hurt so much I don't want to risk it. I think if it wasn't the weekend then I would have left it for a day.
We're not really doing much - It's my Great Aunt's 95th Birthday today so her, my Mum and Dad, DH and me are going out for Sun lunch in Durham to celebrate. That's our only plan. I reckon DH will have plans around sleeping and computer games for the rest of the w-e.
Good luck if you do go to the Metro Centre - do you think it will have calmed down now post Christmas sales or will everyone go this weekend who has been avoiding it? Are you going with or without dd? I remember going clothes shopping with my SIL when her LO was about 5 months. I went to hold the baby so she could try on clothes!

LaDiDaDi · 12/01/2007 11:08

Hope you get your boob sorted out!

A 95th birthday sounds lovely, my granny is 96 and is sweet but is starting to not cope so well at home on her own, we are trying to persuade her that a residential home might be best. She has had some falls at home when she has lain on the floor for most of the night despite have an alarm thing around her neck tht she has forgotten to press.

Will either go alone to mc on Saturday or with dp on Sunday, the bonus of that is that he will be able to help with dd but the downside is that he will see how much money I spend!

podywody · 12/01/2007 23:49

Well your plans sound good, I hope all is ok Smudgemum. I have a babysitter this Saturday mother-in-law is coming to babysit so we can get out, but i just found out today as dh forgot to tell me ... so i have nothing planed and they are coming in the afternoon and going back home in the evening as they don't live nearby so not to sound ungrateful but there not much to do, don't want to go shopping so may go to the cinema. Don't get out much as family dont live near so i suppose i should make the most of it.

OP posts:
SmudgeMum · 13/01/2007 11:14

Hi there,

Not sure about boob - dr said not an infection, prob just one of those things, come back in 3 weeks!

Podywody sounds fantastic to have an afternoon off but that you didn't have notice to make plans. Cinema sounds good - and then maybe a long coffee/drink and cake stop with no baby to worry about? Or go to a pub just because you can!!!

What exciting clothes did you buy Ladida? I think I'm going to feel like I have a whole new wardrobe when I can fit in some of my old clothes again. Not holding out much hope that that will be for about a year though!!!!!

We're venturing into Newcastle in a bit to get a few bits and pieces. Have a good w-e.

LaDiDaDi · 13/01/2007 19:58

In the end I didn't go shopping as my Boden order arrived and the skirt and top I'd ordered are great, just right for work, so I don't really feel that I can justify getting anything else this month. I met some friends for lunch at The Snowy Owl, don't know if you know it, it's near Blagdon. We had a nice afternoon.

Hope you managed to make the most of your free afternoon podywody.

SmudgeMum · 14/01/2007 19:38

Glad you had a nice afternoon Ladida. What did you get up to Podywody? We went into town and got some curtains for our living room (only been in house a month so just had blinds til now). We were looking for some curtains for the babies room but not wanting to fork out daft money. I think I'll have a look in Wilko's.

We wandered round a bit and ended up for a coffee and cake in the new coffee shop on the Bigg Market/Grainger Street (by Pizza house) which is called Kaffecinnos. We got some vouchers for a free drink. They do fairtrade stuff and it was nice. The cake was expensive though but other stuff wasn't too bad.

I don't know the pub you mentioned Ladida. We don't really know anywhere yet so will be glad for any tips. Is it child friendly or is it somewhere to go when you're child free?

Got a MW appointment tomorrow - everyone else on my antenatal threads seems to be getting estimates of baby size. Is that something that they do here? DH suggested I say to her can you tell me an estimate of size but if it's over 8lb just ask her to say bigger than 8lb!!!

Have a good Monday everyone.

podywody · 15/01/2007 02:04

Hi Guys, went to cinema, saw "the last king of scotland" very good film and brillant acting but not an easy relaxing feel good film ! ! Ds made strange with his granma started crying when she came he has never done this before, but he soon got used of her. Ladidadi where is this pub ? where is Blagdon near ? Smudgemum ask your mw about size but my one just kept telling me it was "average" size "hard to tell" ds was born 7lb. I ended up getting material for the curtains for ds room as i couldn't find ones long enought for window, they look fab now, bright with pic of animals, let me know and i will send you pic of material if you have someone to make the curtains, it worked out really cheap. Have ds 2nd set of immunisations tomorrow

LaDiDaDi · 15/01/2007 14:54

The Snowy Owl is kind of up the A1, I'm crap with directions, but it is essentially the same as that one just off the roundabout from the racecourse to the A1 in Gosforth. Is it called Eagle's Nest or something? Snowy Owl is part of the same chain, nothing exciting just somewhere ok to take dd. There's another one in Ponteland called The Badger.

I'm sure that your ds will be fine tomorrow.

Smudgemum have you tried Factory Fabrics in Blaydon? They do curtain materials much cheaper than places in town and you can buy the fabric or they will make it up for you. I think they are in the yellow pages but I'm sure the industrial estate is called Chainbridge Industrial Estate.
How big does the midwife think your lo is?

SmudgeMum · 15/01/2007 16:03

HI you two,

Podywody what on earth were you doing up at 2am!!! Hope jabs went ok and DS isn't too clingy and sad. Are you planning on braving the swimming pool once he's recovered?

MW was really nice - said she reckoned it would be in the 7s which is fine by me. I have actually lost my appetite so maybe it won't be growing too much over the next few weeks. I went to suss out a mother and toddler group today and seemed ok. A bit scary to walk in without a baby but I guessed that I would be braver now then once I've got the LO

Thanks for tip re curtain shop. I think we went to look there when we were looking for living room curtains - can only cope with doing one thing at a time. Def. worth another look.

podywody · 15/01/2007 16:57

can't sleep much lately, ds son sleeps well but its me... he goes down at 8pm and wakes for feed at 3.30am and that it till the morning. Jabs went fine he only cried for a second not as bad as first ones. joined up for waterbabies course in march so looking forward to that. still not sure what i am going to do about work i'm due back begining of april, but i really don't want to leave ds, might take a few more months off

OP posts:
SmudgeMum · 15/01/2007 21:03

When you say that's it at 3.30 - is that for you or for him? I think the disrupted sleep is something that everyone has been warning me is the hardest (rearrange into a sentence!!). DH really doesn't do mornings so think we'll find it quite hard.

Where is the waterbabies class? What work did you do? Will they let you have a couple more months off or do you think they'll get arsey?

Glad that the jabs weren't too bad. We have all that to come and I have no idea what ages they get the various ones. I'm presuming that someone tells you?

I need to brave Newcastle again tomorrow. It's DH Birthday on 1st Feb so want to get him a few bits and pieces. I think I need to schedule in a few tea stops so that I make it there and back in one piece!

podywody · 17/01/2007 20:57

Hi Smudgemum, jabs went ok, you will get a yellow book when baby is born and this will explain all about them also you will receive an official appointment in the post about a week before you have to go so don't worry i was the same.
Think I will ask to take the AML off at work or even another 3 months I love being with my ds, initially i was only taking 3 months off as i have always loved my work and thought i would be bored at home, but there's no time for boredom with a new baby. so how did your shopping trip go ? Waterbabies is on at the Holiday Inn in Seaton Burn just off A1 ,A19 junction. so how are you feeling are you getting really tired now ?
