Here's the general chit-chat thread for October

Synopsis please on what I've missed last week! Too pre-occupied for various reasons to wade through all threads. Thanks

So therefore I'm assuming the same is true for SJ's finger waggles and it indicates she's actually giving a s* about what's being talked about! Which is the same reason I flap my hands and accidentally spit on people...

YanksUponThames · 05/10/2006 17:40

Hey, MrsBigD's English is excellent if you ask me. And so is Nanou's!! Of course, I'm a suburban Yank so what do I know (compared to native Brits, I mean). But I wish I had a second language I could even use like an adult, like they do...
(I can speak Spanish like a retarded person and French like a 3-year-old, but that's about it. I can read more than I can speak, but that doesn't help much when you're talking to real people...)

suejoneziscalmernow · 05/10/2006 17:53

I can speak Welsh like a six year old but don;t find that too helpful on the whole, French like a 40yr old who last studied it 25 yrs ago and Russian like an incompetent loon. Italian and German however I speak fluently...

"Due Cappucini, per favore"
"Ciao bambino"
"Arrividerci Roma"
"Bokenheimerlandstrasse bitte, hundert fier"
"Wo is der Kino?"

Don't speak much but what I do speak is fluent.

MrsBigD · 05/10/2006 18:08

DAS Kino but otherwise very impressive 'hehehehe'

I speak french like a 3 year old too and Spanish like a 2 year old. Couple of words of Hebrew but wouldn't understand any replies I'd get and after my holiday have mastered 5 words, but they write funny . So no language master brain I'm afraid just learned English by submersion

well I just got home to my complete pig-sty of a house.

i've had 2 very gorgeous men staying (don't get excited, they're gay) since Tuesday.

1 is a very very old friend from Sydney I havent' seen for 5 years on a very very tight budget. I am lucky he came but it's involved breakfast, lunch and dinner.

They've drunk a 12 pack+ and 6 bottles of wine (altho I claim my share of that!) and have also required a tour guide.

They've virtually chain smoked outside the backdoor stinking house out and giving me a headache.

They left their STUFF all over the house including wet towels on bathroom floor and bed unmade this morning.

Meanwhile DH has sloped off this evening to play Poker despite us having a blazing row about EVERYTHING this morning. Mind you, I'm sort of glad he's not here.

On the plus side I had a lovely afternoon and supper with an old friend. All the kids played nicely and DD slept all the way home this evening.

On the bigger plus side it seems DH is playing quite well so I'm hoping he'll "cash" and come home with some New York fund money.

On the uber plus side, they boys got back to Germany earlier for my friends' last night before flying to Sydney tomorrow and decided to check a lottery ticket they bought.

THEY WON 100,000 EUROS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Amazing! I'm very very happy for them - this is in the region of 70k for my mate!

Even better, dd loves Nanny, I love Nanny....... let's just hope DH doesn't love Nanny too!

Haven' t been around MN this week- where does the time go??
Sis gave birth yesterday- she was 5 days overdue and phoned me in the morning to say no panic but she had the show.... by the time I got there- she was having contractions every 4 minutes- the baby was born 3 hours later..she made it to hospital and into her birthing pool- a boy she is calling Archie... he' s so sweet - I am feeling cluck cluck clucky -
Have been reading a baby naming thread on MN this evening- it is so true that you need to pick a name you like and to hell with everyone elses opinions. So I was busy looking after sis' 2 year old along with my 2 year old - but want to say:
FF- I hope you are okay and getting the attention you deserve
Mrs BD - glad DH has dropped the strop, you don' t deserve that anytime but especially at the end of a holiday. Had a bit of that going on with DH on holiday myself last month- I put it down to male work stress- their equivalent of PMT.
Uwila- wanted to come to Kew today- but had to deliver sis' s DD back home...hope you got the message I left on your phone.

2Cute · 05/10/2006 23:05

BigD - Great to see you (in the cyber sense) joking again ...DH can usually only manage a text message saying "I'm sorry" ..although that could be because when I'm angry, I'm like an unleashed pitbull!

PC666 - I still can't stop laughing about the birth defect...even told DH about it! Ofcourse my DS is going to grow up to be a charming and loving chap...

BigKat · 05/10/2006 23:25

pc666- sounds like you have been having a great week !!! Do you get a token share of the lottery win??
The nanny sounds like a good find. I found a cleaner last week who is excellent- but on her second visit she seems to have broken the toaster- not sure how you can break a toaster running a cloth over it.... Thought about finding a man to fix it for a couple of quid- but I suppose these odd job men don' t exist anymore -throw away society- chuck it out and buy a new one.

Paddlechick666 · 06/10/2006 09:24

well it means that we'll get another visit next year which is great really. this time i'll make them pick up after themselves LOL!

they've got some brilliant toasters in Bentals for about £30. i honestly don't think you can fix a toaster tbh.

on the upside DH actually won his poker tournament. it turned out that the prize was a £500 stake in a game on saturday night.

we're out at a party so he cashed it in instead - NYC is a little closer!

anyone recommend a good shirt service? our cleaner is good but her ironing is dreadful ;-(

Hi all

PMSL at all of your very impressive language skills

Yanks - so if you spit at me, it means you're listening, right?

PC - has your nanny actually started yet, or was it a setling in session? Glad she's turning out OK for you and your cute DD

MrsBigD - watch out girls - she's back!!!

  • DS did those

pa - might go to Harvest Festival in Kew Gardens tomorrow if its fine. Supposed to be really good -anyone up for it???

Paddlechick666 · 06/10/2006 19:51

Hi FF

You sound chipper so am glad about that.

Nanny has had 2 settling in sessions this week and starts for proper on Monday - eek!

She is absolutely fabulous tho, the eldest of her other charges solemnly informed me that I am very lucky to have her when I picked up dd earlier! LOL

I just hope it all works out and DH keeps the cash coming in LOL.

Harvest Festival sounds lovely but we've got a full day culminating in my going on a hen night in Welwyn tomorrow evening.

Have fun tho.

Hi everyone. A message from DS:

fatfox · 06/10/2006 19:59

PC - amm chipper:

The Deputy Director of Queen Charlotte's called me three times today and has now arranged a proper scan on Monday at 9am, then an appointment to see my Consultant Apparently his response to her was, "why hasn't this woman been sent to see me earlier?" and she has admitted verbally they were wrong. Don't know whether to pursue a formal complaint, to try and ensure it doesn't happen to the next poor woman who enters wheir doors - will depend how much energy I have . TBH am too tired to fight other people's battles as well....

Paddlechick666 · 06/10/2006 20:41

bloody good! am so glad you're seeing someone soon and hopefully will get some answers and reassurance.

as for complaints etc, i can fully understand why you'd want to complain but there are times when you just have to focus on yourself and you've had a bit of a rough trot recently.

maybe contact PALs and see what the process is and if it's all too long and drawn out then don't pursue it.

btw, your DS is a very creative young man!

pudding77 · 06/10/2006 21:21

Hi ff, glad you're getting some proper help now! I take it your ds just likes the funny faces?! How old is he, if you don't mind me asking?

pudding77 · 06/10/2006 21:33

Well, I've had an exhausting yoga session, first one in months, so I'm going to grab something to eat, a cup of tea & go to bed!

have a good night!

fatfox · 06/10/2006 22:59

Puds - I love yoga -but only do it when PG!! How long have you been doing yoga?

DS is 6
He always competes with me for the PC and the TV!

PC - agree re complaint. I've done my bit - everyone else can sod off

Actually, my complaint was done through PALS, so reckon they must be pretty effective, as QC seemed to jump to it as soon as PALS were involved I might follow it it through wih some feedback to PALS hough, to see if maybe hey can change the QC system for future mumstobe...

Off to bed now. Have just watched the DVD of "crash" - anyone seen it? I thought it was really good.

pudding77 · 07/10/2006 06:56

I've not been doing it long really ff - I only started yoga when I was pregnant but she was such a good teacher that I went to one of her other classes. I haven't been able to go in a couple of months so started back last night.

So ff, I'm guessing that you and ds always want the pc and tv at the same time!!

pudding77 · 07/10/2006 06:58

also meant to say that maybe QC will be a bit more helpful in the future because of you?! I can't believe the ante-natal reception there - West Mid were really good at seeing me if I had any problems no matter how far along I was!

fatfox · 07/10/2006 10:08

Puds - I LOVE West Mid. Had DD there and they were Soooooo wonderful But have been told they no longer take people from or area, which is a shame.

Do you find yoga has any impact figure/weight wise? Or is it more for relaxation?

fatfox · 07/10/2006 10:09

PS - everyone - we'll be in Kew Gardens from 11.30, should anyone fancy joining us? (07779-289-041)

pudding77 · 07/10/2006 10:40

I don't think I've done it enough yet for it to have a weight loss impact! I'm hoping it will and that it will also help my back.

West mid are really good - it is a shame you can't go there!

Wish I could join you at Kew but have to go shopping and cook up ds's food for the next week! Have fun

bunyanvillas · 07/10/2006 13:40

Oh, shame fatfox - dd & I were in Kew this morning at Climbers & Creepers and it would have been good to finally meet up with someone from this thread! Back home now for a rest as she is going through that "must be carried everywhere" phase ...

flakecake · 07/10/2006 13:41

Hi all, I've not read the whole thread but would like to meet/do playdate with a couple of mothers. I have 1 two and a half year old dd. I'm in the acton area, and good days for us are Saturday and sunday. Can give a mobile number if anyone wants to meet.

fatfox · 07/10/2006 18:38
